Simon Wright was the drummer when I first got into the band, so in a way he will always be my favourite AC⚡DC drummer!

He had a pocket Phil Rudd never had. Chris Slade, while a great drummer, was a different kind of pocket. All 3 had their strengths, but Simon Wright was and is my fave. Getting to meet him (he autographed my ac/dc tour program) at a drum shop in Scottsdale in 1990 while he was on tour with audio was the shizz!

Got into AC/DC in 1980 but didn’t get to see them live until 1983 on the Flick of the Switch tour where Simon was playing drums.

Out of nowhere Holy Diver Live started playing from the studio monitors and inmediatley had to find out who was playing drums, huge sound and super tight performance, that brought me here.

I love Simon’s intro to Wild One. It must have felt liberating to bust out of the AC/DC four on the floor monotony.

Dude, what a great nice gig you have got. I find your podcasts very entertaining, very informative...just good stuff! Great interviews and you do this so naturally! Great voice, personality and casual format on this podcast/ video clip...There are so many "journalists" that have done this for ages (yes, you Mitch Lafon) and still have no clue how to conduct themselves, how to let the artist talk, no introspection on interviews, no structure...anyway. I still remember Lafon asking Simon Wright: "Do you remember the day Dio died"? No joke! Simon pretty much ended the interview on the spot. Kudos to you Jason. Keep up the good work! Congrats! Very refreshing.

I Sabbath with DIO and saw ACDC on the North American Tour on Blow Up Your Video. I worked that show a few weeks later in a neighboring city. Malcolm wasn't on that leg of the tour. Stevie Young played it. Malcolm was in rehab.Sad that he couldn't shake that demon. Damn that breaks my heart. It cost him an early death.

At first I really hated the idea of the hologram. Because it seemed like a money grab. It's not like they phoned me to ask my opinion anyway haha! But Dio always liked to work with lasers and effects. He was the first guy I saw use them so well. When he would stand in the middle of the laser cone. And then do the Maloik, breaking the laser field. And little green stars would form on his hands. Really amazing. And I think that the hologram is another kind of magic. It's appropriate given the fact that he's gone. It's a nice tribute. Very forward thinking. If I can ever get the chance I will go to the concert.

Funny how Chris Slade then came in after him and; - They up'd the tempo - Brought in double bass/pedal - Metal it up - Put in a showy drum setup

Simon's memory is not totally on point - he talks about grunge effecting Lock Up the Wolves tour and Mtv's reception to the album, wrong, grunge is not a factor yet when Lock Up the Wolves is released in mid 1990 - That album failed because that style of straight ahead heavy metal was not "cool" - all of those straight ahead metal bands (Priest, Maiden) were having trouble filling arenas and generating big sales - all the attention & money from the "fans" was divided between the pop metal (Winger, Slaughter) movement and the thrash metal movement (Megadeth, Slayer) in 1990.

The LUTW tour seems to have been done by October 1990. Nevermind was out for a month. Agreed.
@angryagain3801
@angryagain3801 3 года назад
@@wakeupcanuck6763 Nevermind and the Pearl Jam albums were released in 1991. Alice in Chains and Soundgarden were both touring albums in 1990 (Facelift, Louder Than Love) but those two bands were still in club act stage. Dio, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden were all struggling to sell albums in the late 80's, a lot of their audience was into thrash metal and these bands didn't appeal to the Bon Jovi/Poison trend either .

Vinny left Dio in 1998 to go on tour with Black Sabbath , replacing Bill Ward who had health problems at the time, I saw Sabbath with Vinny in Sweden 1998 , He played the whole European summer run. I had to write that because Simon said he didnt know why Vinny left Dio back in 1998 : ) Great interview I was gonna watch 10 minutes during my breakfast but now I have watched the whole thing haha
