Thanks Don! Got 4 of these spinning 910kv NTM's. Naza GPS. I didn't use the NTM accessories, but mounted the motor from the bottom and just used a 4mm prop adapter on the motor shaft. Balanced with an iPhone Seismometer app. It was stable the other day in 25mph winds. Thanks man!!!! From Windsor Ontario!!! Shipped fast and great service. Customer for life man. Just get those motors ready.
WOW WHAT A GREAT JOB ON THESE ESC'S!! I really enjoyed this video and the information. I learned about ESC'S from Don and as a result I purchased some of these ESC's. I'm blown away by the quality of the ESC's he made for me. I got them for my Armattan CNC 258 quad and now I will be getting all my ESC's thru Don. Thanks Don for both the Video and The awesome ESC's you set up for me - WOW! TWO THUMBS UP
holy sh**! i built my 1st quad it is a f450 frame.. kk2.1.5 ,. i had turnigy ae 25a esc's .. i had my p gain all the way down to 22 and it was still osci4like crazy! it was not flyable! i was about to throw in the towel thinki g i wasnt tuning correctly.. so i gave simonk esc's a shot.. i just tuned it after putting in the new esc... quadrupled my p gain and the quad is LOCKED IN!!! flies beautifully!! thank you so much for this vid!!!
Thanks for sharing this with the numbers. I have the exact setup and was bobbling like a ball in a tidal pool could not get it out. Had the parts on order to flash so i played with gains a bunch. Now it it very stable on the HK blue series 30 a ESCs. BTW your videos are better than any others out there. well structured and precise. thanks for your contribution to the Rc community. BTW strangely enough i did not select BS fet and one smoke on throttle up. had a spare reflashed all and all is well
I've ordered a set of these from rcmanchild, the 30A ones. What a difference from the stock Hobbyking SK450 kit. The biggest difference for me was that the motors ran at much lower throttle, were the old ESCs would just turn off. It's much more stable too, even if I haven't changed my PI values yet. The only complaint I got is that there were no bulletconnectors on the power cables. Perhaps I missed something while ordering them. Anyways, great products dhdsracer, and delivery time was quite satisfying. Considering I live in Norway :)
Yeah, you got it. My ESC's are stock with the ferrite ring on the leeds. It's just to block out any possible interference on the same circuit. There is no disadvantage to them so it's better to be safe. You can get the rings at any good electronic supply shop.
You can do all four at once. With the props off for safety! It's done by holding down buttons 1 and 4 on the kk2 and then plugging in the battery on your craft. calibrate as per your ESC ie full throttle on turn on then wait for beep then full cut throttle, wait for more beeps etc In effect this takes the throttle input and routes/bypasses it to all four ESCs at the same time so you get them all calibrated and matched
you can get the kind from radio shack that snap on if you dont want to back the pins out of the connector or desolder/solder. the will likely be heavier though.
It looks like you also added some ferrite rings on the plugs coming from the escs to the kk2. Is this to smooth out the signals to the kk2? Could you explain how you did this and where you purchased the rings. Thanks for the video!
Another really helpful vid, buddy :) I'm on with tuning my first multicopter (Talon Tri w/KK2.1.5) and have been struggling to get it stable. I've got the ESC flashing hardware on the way and after watching this I'm confident the SimonK firmware will help with my woes. While I'm here, can you tell me which version I need for my (new last month) MultiStar 30A ESC's? There seems to be two recent versions and if I get it wrong I may overheat them... kda_nfet or kda_8khz. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work ;) Cheers, Paul
It's not really hard but it is time consuming. I have a flashing video in the works but it is different for every ESC depending on pad locations and FET models. It's worth a go but if you get it wrong, sometimes they pop!
Hey I have a DJI F450 and KK2 v1.5. I am wondering when you are tuning your quad, you only give 1 set of gains/limits (p-ga, p-lim, i-ga, i-lim). Is that the value for roll/pitch and yaw? Or do you set your yaw and leave it, and just adjust roll/pitch? I hope that makes sense. Thanks
Sweet B6 bro. I used to have a B5. Got a mk1 TT now. Maybe you can give me a little insight, my dji f450 I'm building has 1000kv motors, turnigy plush 30a ESC, kk2.1.5 and I'm going to use a 4s 500mah. Ive got 8x4.5 props right now but was thinking about changing them. Would you be able to recommended any props? I also have some afro 30a simonk escs on order. AUW is about 1200g.
I connected. My xxd 30a esc with 1000kv motor then to a 11.1v battery. One of the voltage regulators started to heat and melted the heat-conducting rubber. What could cause this?
Any tip on how to level the quad with auto level off. You make it look so easy in this video. My just flip or wobble very badly with auto level off. I am using the KK2 controller with 1.5 firmware. Does the CG has to be perfectly centre on the quad? Or just using simonk flash esc will do the trick? I really like your video and I think you are a great at explaining many things about the quad.
Hello I'm a heli guy going to build a dji f450 kit and wood ur ecs and motors work great on them I'm a newbie got the lil sq1 cause it flies like the big one so I want to build it to start and grow into it so I don't have to upgrade after 2 weeks of flying and then have to buy better ecs and motors and I will be getting them from u thanx
I'm running 1.2 at well. so that shouldn't be and issue. I'm not familiar with the spektrum TX, can you turn on your TX with low throttle then move it to full before you hold down buttons and plug in the copter battery? or does it beep until it connects with the RX? I think dhdsracer has used spektrum TXs in past videos perhaps he could clarify what you need to do.
Hello, I was on your website to purchase some of these but I didn't see the spec I wanted. What will work with your esc's 3s, 4s, ? Any help would be appreciated.
i have some F-30a's I want to flash. do I enable boot loader?... do I need to power the esc with a lipo or will it get power from my usbasp programmer?... thanks for any help you can give me.
Your video is very good, I have a question for you, I have purchased the SK450 Quad from Hobbyking I have been told I need to update the firmware from 1.2 to the latest firmware 1.5. would I need to redo all the settings on the KK2? Many thanks
do these ESC's require calibration, I have a quad that I have just beat my head against a wall trying to calibrate and I don't know what to do! I have tried the 4 into 1 a la y harness I have tried what HK has suggested. I really want to fly this thing, but I don't know what else to do! can you help me Obeone
What is the final p gain p limit and i gain I limit for yaw. Probably the limits shown in the video are for roll and pitch. What are the values for yaw plzz share its urgent and your video was great
Hi Don, I'm having a problem calibrating my ESC's to the KK2 board, its quite obvious that you've got that down. could you help me out with what I need to be listening for? thanks mike
professional Rovers Any flight controller without gps has no reference to its position in space, other than rotation and acceleration. You need a gps module for position hold. Check out a naza or pixhawk.
I have Afro ESCs, 30A and a similar quad. My problem is that it will lift off, hover a little then it sounds like a skipping noise and the quad will flip over itself and break the props off.. can you suggest anything?
I had the same problem with my afro 30. It was the timing that would go off between my esc and motor. Updated simonk firmware is running 18 deg of advance. Stock firmware is at 15 degrees adv. I tweaked the firmware back to 15 degrees, flashed the escs with it and bingo! No more problems with it falling from the sky with the watch dog siren going off.
ever97ish dhdsracer Hi, I flashed my ESCs and the one which used to cut out actually blew up while flashing - all were done the same way. Few weeks later my new Afro arrived and I flashed it - calibrated the ESCs and now I'm all good. The issue now is that with the stock PID settings it oscillates like mad. I have the same quad as above with SunnySky motors and 10x4.5 props. I couldn't figure out how to fix the KK to the PCB, so it's on with elastic bands. Any ideas for getting this smoother? It flies nothing like as smooth as the one in this video :-S
I built a x525 frame using hobbywing skywalker 20A esc and 5010-400kv motorsall connected to kk2.1 and O.RX R615X receiver one of the problems is it only lift on one side the motors are 18A max motors could the esc be the problem.
Dale De Peiza Wow...5010 400's? Are you using 15 inch props? I have 5008 320's on my Tarot T960 with 1755 props! Have you calibrated your ESC's? You may also have "Twinrotor" selected on motor layout instead of "quadrotor".
Hey i m working on f450 with kk2.1.5 board and 30a ecs with fsct6b tx vx when i try to fly it it starts spining ccw and then flips can you help with my settings
My friend, i am with a big problem with my quad. It slowly spins to right side and KK2.1.5 is beeping.I ever tried ereverything to repair, but i cannt solve! What can be ? Thanks
Actually i am using 1800KV motors and KK2.1.5 but my quad is not stable, i only push Throttle but it is always goes in a direction and can not be contrable, crashed many times
Descents are tricky unless you're moving forward or sideways because you're descending into your own prop wash. My newest firmware uses regenerative breaking that gives the best decent performance I've seen. They are far more stable then plushes in general. If you don't want to replace them, turn your p gain down for better wind stability.
+dhdsracer can you tell me does it matter if your escs are say 30 amps but your current draw is is say 16 amps. I ask cause I know with my new motors and new blades I'll be drawing more amps then my 12 amp escs can handle so should I get 20amp or just get the 30amp.
I have 2 questions, S500mm Multicopter Pixhawk PX4 FC, SimonK 30Amp ESC's.....I read that the ESC's need to be Flashed.... Is this TRUE..? I searched all over the Internet for the Flashing Component Tools could not find them anywhere: electronics that connect to a PC, pen type IC Chip probe, etc... Can I use the ESC's as they are..? Lot's of people do that from what I've seen or they don't tell you that they flashed them, you're the first one who said they Flashed the ESC's...... Mine are made by HobbyPower bought off Amazon.com Can they be Flashed through the Flight Controller...? Thanks in advance... James.....
I know I am doing everything all freakin backwards but I just upgraded from the KK1 to the NAZA-M w/ GPS LOL. And yes I am freakin Mind-Blown at the diference ok. ok. ok BUT I have a KK2 FC just sitting in the foam-box that I am finally going to build a 2nd quad around to see how it compares to the KK1. I am NOT going to compare it to the NAZA because thats a $450. controller against a $45. FC so thats not fair. I actually have a ton of faith in the KK2 for its price. The KK1 SUCKED HARD THO! :(
