Seventh project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! This block was originally used in our Block of the Month 2022 - December Block
Here is a link to the original version of this block:
• BLOCK #12 for our 2022...
Here is a link to our video series playlist featuring Projects using 2 1/2 inch strips: • Projects using 2 1/2" ...
Yes, my voice is a little off, I've been trying to get over a pretty bad cold!
Stay to the end to see finished quilt which includes the pieced backing!
There is also an update on the scrap bucket situation and how that is looking!
I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three...make that seven after the "GREAT SORTING"! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
Consider joining our Facebook group called "The Quilted Forest Friends". This is the only place you'll have access to exclusive free quilt patterns used in some of our other video projects. It's also lots of fun for members to share their project updates. Here's a link to the group:

Love this. As a very senior citizen, I only have one comment. I get up and down from sewing machine to ironing board frequently and that is deliberate. It's good exercise! Bagging all pieces for one block keeps you organized AND speeds up the process. Having one finished block spurs you on to make the next one, especially since they'll all be unique. Thanks!

I do the same for the exercise. It can be tiring sometimes, but I value the leg work so as to keep me from getting stiff.

That’s exactly why I don’t put an ironing station beside my machine. It forces me to walk across the room. Too much sitting isn’t good for anyone and I do enough of that working full time. ❤

I'm loving this series. I don't quilt, but I sew boomerang bags and some clothes. I have half a pillowcase of scraps that I have been cutting into strips - inspired by your series. I binge-watched the previous 6 videos of this series a couple of weeks ago and I can't wait to see what you do next month. I love seeing how much your scraps reduce after each quilt you make. Your videos are very satisfying to watch and make me wish I had more scraps - even though I'm still trimming mine to usable sizes. Thank you for inspiring me!

Wow, you are one busy lady with all the wips you tackle too. Do you get time off? I hope so, you do need it. Or do you sew for friends and family at home too? The sewjo is strong with this one! I like your sewing table. I have to set up my ironing board at the right height, to hold big things up. I love this block, it looks more complex than it is. Have a look ar your first strip buckets pic, you have come a very long way. Congratulations. IDEA? I got myself a bias binding ruler, 8" long or so with a 45° on one end. Lay two strips face to face and cut prs of french braids. Separate into left and right piles, sew on one and then the other. No waste, 45's go on the outside, flat ends fit neatly in centre, use up j roll strips, put the top off-cuts on the base with partial seams and sash the sides. Great with pastels too. Oops you used them, how about those brights and black, maybe red centres? Many scraps could make a very long strip, or a roll, or cut up a roll or 2 you have done? How about red one side, blue the other and white contrast squares in the middle? Cut to length and off you go, only one top for base? Or use a solid square base and setting triangles for angled ends going in opposite directions? Last thing I sewed up was a couple of dozen coloured gaberdine, each, long pants and capri length to wear. I'm a strange shape, it's easier to make them. My sister wanted some too, capri and shorts for summer jammies so 3 dozen done. I sew up 2 pair at a time, with the same cotton colours. Mum used to get me to do her dresses, they were easier 2 at a time too. The trousers, seem to wear out in 10 or so years. The cat had to sit on the bit I was sewing too. He was surrounded by pins, not jabbed though, or he would have been off like a shot. Got some poly blend leftovers for a guy throw, to keep a bed clean when he comes home grotty, needing a nap. And some strips for shopping bags and pouches. Tropical area means cotton works and the dress fabrics were quilting cotton mostly. So odd shapes but plenty of scraps for quilts. Just need some energy after cancer etc., to get busy again.
