Glad to see you are back at it, thumbs up from Southern California. Let us know who to buy products from to support you. Best of luck with your comeback!
Using this video tomorrow… I will wash it good with the Dawn/Super-clean mix and dry… I will go with chop top and heavy cut 50-50 for the top side toe rail with my DA and wool pad… then polish it up with a foam pad and Jescar… wipe everything down… I will do the interior with Jescar and find a drill detail brush to save time and energy with the seats… Thanks Drake…
From Austin Texas, I started detailing about a month ago, and I literally just detailed a boat for a client to sell. (1998 sea ray 210) super inspired by you man. Started blasting my Snapchat with videos of myself on the boats, making money doing something so incredible and documenting and sharing the experience. Thank you for all that you do!!!
Glad you are back doing these videos. Came across this today after I just came from looking at a boat to detail. Haven’t done any customer boats years so this one was a great help. The time and price and your process gave me good ideas.
love some shine supply being used in videos, as someone born and raised in ventura county its cool to see them getting the fame they deserve. would recommend using some burn out stacked with daddy o to get a super glossy finish. slick back is very good stuff tho as well. i tend to save it for my coating jobs. its great at leveling any high spots missed from the wipe down stages.
Very nice job. You can get to perfection without wetsanding. A dude up in Chelan WA is absolutely killing it with 3M Super Duty, 3M Heavy Cut, and 3M Perfect-It EX AC. Executives from 3M spent a whole day with him last week being shown how to use their own products more effectively. Lee has done 150 boats per year for the last 15 years.
Hey Drake, thanks for the reply. This is the interesting part. 3M did not go to see Lee in Chelan to show him how to use the 3M products. 3M went to see Lee so that Lee could show 3M how to use Super Duty and Heavy Cut compounds differently. See the video from May 6 from “Local boydidgood”.
@@tannerhendricks8132 Hello Tanner. Lee used to be with Deckhand Detail in Seattle, which is/was the second largest boat detailing company in the US. He is now with Chelan Shine. He is doing miracles with only compounding and no wetsanding. He has a 300 videos on his YT channel, but only 1400 subscribers. He has this crazy nasty red Bayliner that they use for a before/after demonstration and also for training. The boat sat in the desert for 20 years and is trashed and gross. I have a lot of respect for what Drake has done with his business and YT channel. My sincerest hope would be to see Drake get some free lessons on compounding from Lee in exchange with helping Lee gain more RU-vid traction. Win-Win for everybody. Redding CA isn’t that far from Chelan WA.
Lee and I have 2 different methods and that’s totally fine. There is more than one way to make a boat shine. Lee does great work and so do I :) Lee should pay you for advertising on my my channel :)
seat transformation looks amazing, I did not see the after on the hull cushions. Ours look similar-were you able to clean those or did the customer decide to have cushions remade?
Grat video; great results. Really liking the Shine Supply products and looking forward to putting them to the test this summer in the North MS heat. Thanks for the informative vids!
Love your videos, and the attitude you present them. Question? I have a snake shaped scratch on my boat, I’ve used 1000 grit wet sandpaper, but now having a hard time erasing the sand marks. Looks find after heavy cut but is back the next day. Any recommendations?

Wow. Reminds me of my blue exterior on my Yamaha. Amazing job. Detailer worked on it last year. Said it needed one more time working on it after a year. Your work is 😳. I agree $1300/1500
Looks like the shape my boat is in 😂 oxidation city! Nice job brother!! Looks amazing weather looks perfect. Yes us "the people" can definitely benefit from videos like this
Of course. You all kill it. Man, is there a way to get in touch w/ you? My tritoon has a vinyl flooring marine deck & I don't know what to use to get out a few big streaks. I can send you a pic.
How long does the boat stay protected after this if it’s not in the water? I live in northern Wisconsin and was thinking about doing this inside during the winter. Would wax and sealant still be just as effective if the boat sat inside afterwards for a few months before summer comes?
Hi drake, been trying to get in touch to ask a few questions if that would be OK. I'm from the UK I tried messaging your Facebook page but it hasn't been received, thanks if you can help. The videos are great and teaching me a lot 👍
I charge around $15-$20 per foot per step of detailing that I do. So say that I do polish and a wax, then that is two steps. So that would be $30 per foot
24ft cabin cruiser planning on doing wet sand process 4 step. Wet sand, heavy cut, med cut, polish…do you recommend 32oz for the compounds or should I grab the gallons…also aside from the wet sanding should I be buffing and polishing my boat every year or should a maintenance polish keep me where I need to be. I live in NY where we only have about 5 months of boating season
No You won’t need to wet sand and buff it out again for awahile. Remember there’s only so much gelcoat layer on there to begin With . Then you hit the primer underneath… so no won’t need to go in heavy unless you leave it in direct sun and don’t wax then oxidation will be back in 5 years or less . just keep adding wax and touching up the areas as needed.
We typically run wool pads at lower speeds to allow a better and deeper cut. Anywhere from 600-1800rpm. 600 being on the heavier cut side, 1000-1800 being closer to the medium cut compound side of things.
Drake I’m a long time follower. In the past you really seem to like Starke and Menzerna products. How would you compare say Starke Elevate or Menzerna 400 to the Shine Supply products? For instance Shine Supply Chop Top is similar to what in the Starke line. Thanks
Chop top is similar to menzerna 400 and Starke elevate. But I would say chop top is far better than both products. It’s a bit dusty but that’s because chop top has zero fillers. It’s an amazing product
I have a 31’ center console with heavy oxidation and scratches. What 2 step products you recommend and required pads? How much product of each will I need
shinesupply.com/collections/marine-products Here’s a link to the products I love ! if it has heavy oxidation and scratches, he will need more than two steps. Heavy, cut compound, medium, cut compound, then polish, then seal. I’d recommend shine supply heavy, cut on a white wall pad with a rotary, then shine supply chop top on a yellow wool pad on a rotary. A polish shine supply wake up, then seal it up with Jescar power lock. All of the products can be found in my link above. At checkout, feel free to use my discount code: DRAKE15
Wake is a polish and protectant meant to rejuvenate a current coating- Slick back is a primer polish that you do right before you apply your polymer sealant or ceramic coating to help it adhere better.
Hey bro, would you ever just do a one step of Menzerna 400 for inside gelcoat? Or you always finish up with Jescar? I have alot of clients that i find the inside in great shape and want just a "one" step.
If you can, remove them. If they are the kind you can’t remove, either invest in a mini machine or just work your buffer right in there, and clean out all the snaps later 😎
@@DrakesDetailing Your videos have taught me alot....well, I have only watched a couple of them but I'll definitely subscribe when I search for videos on aluminum boat detailing.
Hey Drake. Love the videos. I am struggling with some very stubborn water spots on an anodized aluminum t top. What would you recommend to get these off? Is WSP your go to?
I’ll need to be carful on anodized aluminum, you can try wsp but it’s hard to safe if it work or not. Try it, if that doesn’t work you may need todo a light polish work a 3 inch gray force lake country pad on a rotary using menzerna 400
For pricing purposes (per foot / per step), how many total steps are we looking at here? Is it three: 1) wash and wax package, 2) cutting, 3) polishing or am I missing a step (e.g., clutch application). Thanks!
It’s the UV from the sun that dolls down the surface, you need to keep up, waxing and sealing the boat in order to protect the surface from getting faded by the sun, it’s not so much the ocean.
Thanks Drake for another great instructional video! Just a question about products. Are you thinking that the Shine products may replace Stark in you lineup? Also do you think any of them compare to the jescar ultra lock plus? Just looking to decrease the number of options to consider. Thanks
Yes starke is 100% out. I am really liking the shine supply stuff and plan on rolling with it until I find something better! I don’t have any experience outside of Jescar power lock. I have heard mixed reviews on the ultra lock
Daddy - O paint sealant shinesupply.com/products/daddy-o?_pos=1&_sid=7d6af1ea7&_ss=r Apply that and top it with shine supply punch it! You’ll thank me later! :)
Hey Drake! It Came out awesome man! I'm a mobile detailer out here in Southern California, OC. I had a question. So Using Dawn soap on CARS is a Huge No No, is it ok to use professional grade soap ie. P&S's Pearl Shampoo on the boat? Or should I stick to your method of using Dawn? One more question. Did you do a 1:1 ration of Dawn in your foam cannon? I'm going to be detailing my friends boat here in about a week.It will be my FIRST boat detail and Paint Correction.
Why does everyone fast forward and blank out the audio when using the polisher??? This is the most important part of HOW to do this! How much compound do you put on? How fast do you run the polisher? What does it sound like, RPM? You waste so much time talking about nothing, and then the most important parts are fast forwarded and basically skipped. Crazy
Used it for the first time last weekend definitely worth buying if you're a person who likes detailing your own car recommend first time to use on lowest setting 800 so you don't burn paint don't leave in one spot keep moving it over paint easy to use ru-vid.comUgkxfzbDkCRyv3CFXnLZI4APZtRRuG2uRmP2 truck looks like new again used maguires black light battery life like all milwaukee products seem to hold up well 😀
