Although your video was done 6 years ago, I am currently in the same stage with just embarking on stamping despite being a long-time crafter. Also live in Canada so same conetnd re: costs for various stamping platforms. Definitely going to try making myself one of these! Thinking I might try to add a magnetic layer providing I can use with thin enough magnets to hold my paper in place, or might just use quality removable tape. Thanks for sharing your clever idea!
Yay! Definitely a great place to start. I have since got the Misti actually a few of them, but I did use this DIY version of it for a while. A magnet might not let you close the lid unless it is super thin. I used washi tape all the time. Have fun and welcome to the stamping rabbit hole!
Great invention BRAVO. Tim Holtz stamping positioning case is EXPENSIVE. At my age of 70 I dont need to waste money. Yours is EXACTLY what i required. 😄👍 Easy and fun to make ⛈⛈ and I will do it now as there's a severe thunder storm in Paris FRANCE and cannot go to the garden. ☔⚡ Thanks for sharing and caring. 👍👍👍
I know it’s been years, but I want to thank you! I was really struggling with the idea of spending so much on a stamp positioner. Thanks you, some card stock, grid paper, and a cd case, I now have a tool that works perfectly! Sending a big hug your way!
That is awesome! We all start somewhere, and I was right where you were at the time I made this video. Have fun and I hope it will help you get that perfect image!
This is absolutely wonderful! I just made myself one following your instructions and I am thrilled with it. I used a piece of corflute purchased from Officeworks to fill in the gap. It works like a charm. Thank you so very much! ❤❤❤
THANK YOU! I just made one and you made my day, cause when I use my stamps they never come clean/crisp (and stamping twice you get an unwanted shadow) and with this I was able to make crisp impressions. I would love to own a Misti, but right now the $$ is low, so until I save for one this will do. Again, thank you!
Great video. I learned a long time ago. Your stamps can cling to a lot of things. I wished I knew then what I know now before I purchased so many blocks. I glad I did not buy the misti. It was just too expensive. I could not justify the cost after all the tools I have invested in to stamp with so far. I will give this a try. Tfs Sheshe
Brilliant! And this demonstration folks is what crafting is all about. Yes, this is crafting in it's truest form. If we need something that will help us out, but we don't have one, we figure out a way of "crafting" one. Congratulations for coming up with a perfect design. You, ma'mam, personify what crafting is all about and you should feel very proud. Thank you!
Awesome idea! Am going to try this as soon as I have foam. Ingenious! Thanks for sharing. Costs for this hobby mount up, this is an amazing money saver!!
Thanks, Deb! It's a fun project especially if you are just getting started. I have since bought the Misti, and it's definitely worth the investment if you plan on stamping a ton in the future. I do still use this tool for stamping the same stamp on all my envelopes. It's just always set up.
@@ILoveDoingAllthingscrafty cool idea! Thanks for the encouragement. I have spent quite a bit over the last 18 months so will stick with your version for now. Foam is on order. Very creative! Thanks again from the UK ☺️
Very Clever i will make me one to morrow because i was thinking of buying one and it is very expensive for my budget. Thank you very much for sharing your idea with us.
I love it!! You make my stamping more easier my gush misti tool is pricy now i can do diy misti tool we have a lot of cd cases in case it broke made another one Thank you for sharing your video Im beth from the Philippines
EXCELLENT TUTORIAL and SO HAPPY I can make my own Misti Tool without paying way too much $$ for times I would use it here and there as an occasional newbie stamper. Thank you for sharing this!! Take care...
I have watched many videos on how to make a misti. I have found that yours is the one I am going to use. I think that you have done a great job in explaining all aspects of the process. I am glad that it will work on an A2 size card, I was wondering about that all through the video until the end. Then only thing that I think that I will do differently is to use a DVD case. I think that it will give me more room. I luv, luv, luv, the page protector idea. I think that is just brilliant!!!! This is my project for the up coming week. Thanks so much for sharing.
dutch land you are so very welcome, happy you found this helpful! I looked for a DVD case that would work but never found one that worked for me. Good luck my friend!
OMG. I have been trying to figure out for the longest how to make a Misti type tool and this is it!! Genius!! Thank you so much for this tutorial. I will copy and share on my channel and five you credit of course!
Love it!! ♡ This is one of the best I've seen, so clean, and yet it utilizes materials already found in house. We're going to make this tonight! Thankies ever so much!! ♡
So glad I found your video. I saved some videos back in October and the one I loved the most then bought all the stuff for has been removed. GRRRRR....Not sure why because it was awesome. But Now I found yours. Thanks
Happy you found this and happy to help! I think lots of videos were taken down because it was too similar to a certain stamping tool that was suing other companies for copyright infringements. Anyways this one is harmless as everyone has CD cases, lol!
lol Well I'm glad they left yours. I am going to make something kind of Different. Maybe down the road I will film it. Check out my video's. If you like pls subscribe.
I read this before and didn't reply, but now it is ticking me off. lol. I guess if I made the main item I might want things taken down too. But look at every single creation out there. Then go on youtube most are copied. Sorry having a bad day.
I also made one after seeing a video using instead a clear dvd case to create it. Since I don't have access to those large cases I used a CD case too. Note that it would be better to keep the foam removable or not permanently attached since cling stamps already have foam on them and that would compensate the foam sheets you use for clear stamps. Love seeing a new video on this, I'm all for DIY tools myself so way to go! TFS
Since it's so easy to find CD cases, I just made two of them -- one with 2 foam inserts and the other one with just 1 foam insert, so I wouldn't have to keep changing around that one optional layer depending on whether my stamps were clear or cling. Voila-- just pick which tool for which stamp... This is an awesome version among the available DIY positioner tools out there, and I have already made several for my friends! Thanks so much for sharing this idea!
This is the best thing ever! I live in India and I've been trying to find a DIY stamping tool video and this had all the supplies available in my country! Thanks a lotttt! 😍 I just made one and it works quite perfectly!
Just bought a mini Misti about 3 weeks ago.................. wish I had waited .... BUT.. .now I can make a Very Mini Stamping Tool...... I'll have 2!!!
Agreed. very clever! I don't stamp so much that it could justify the cost of a MISTI. But a CD case? I'm ok sacrificing one of those and some craft foam to get a smaller, yet similar device. Thanks for sharing!
Oh thanks So much! This is perfect for my needs, I've done tons of you tube searches , so complicated . And Now this! I'm truly thankful and Excited to get this going! Subscribing NOW! 😎😎😎
You are very welcome. You could also try using a clear dvd case as well. I haven't found one yet, but I heard other people have done it and works just as well.
Great video! I can't wait to try this. A little tip I think might work for the grid paper. If you have clear Contact Paper you could cover it with that! TFS!
hi jean from south africa love this our exchange rate is also horrendous and local craft shops are making a fortune by blaming the exchange rate I personally think they don't really care about us crafters there just interested the money. so tks for this love from sunny sagas
jean christie Hi Jean, sorry to hear that! The thing I love about a crafter is that we always figure out a different way to get things done. Happy this video has helped. I now have a different stamping tool that was way less than the misti but still use my little cd case from time to time 😉
HI Jean Christie - am also a South African but I order a lot of my supplies from AliExpress because the craft stores here in PMB are ridiculously expensive. Check it out if you like. I can also suggest a good Facebook group if you are into die cutting :)
hello I love doing all things crafty What kind of foam and what is the size you have to cut the foam and what about the grid paper and you do the same to the dvd case too? I love your hard work
Hi there Marisa, I just used a craft foam. You should cut the foam and the grid paper to fit along the bottom of whatever case you are using. Hope that helps ;)
Hello I Love Doing All Things Crafty! How are you? What if you don't have a needle nose plier? what else can you break them with I love your videos. have a great day or night
I'm making one now, thanks so much for your great tutorial video! One question-I have a double layer of fun foam but it doesn't reach the top of the lid, should I add another layer? Thanks :-)
This was wonderful! I am going to make one! I wanted a larger one too!...Here is a source for the clear larger DVD case (very reasonable price!): hallmarkscrapbook.com/collections/diy-stamping-tool-stamp-positioner-supplies/products/clear-unmounted-stamp-and-thin-metal-die-storage-case-hinged and here is the link how to make the larger Stamp positioner with the larger case: hallmarkscrapbook.com/blogs/news/80933569-how-to-make-your-own-hinged-stamping-tool-stamp-positioner
This is just like using an acrylic block June. It is very temporary so the stamps don't dry out and loose there cling. Once you are done using them you wipe them clean and store them in their packaging. I haven't had any problems. Hope that helps!
Ok, I'm glad you explained that because I really like this idea. It will be great to carry it around when I meet friends. I like the size. I like the idea of stamping the same image twice because so many times I don't get a good impression the first time. Thanks for showing this.
