Where were you when I first started to play? Have been struggling with "the death grip" for 60 years. A good fit on thd shoulder rest helps. Is it normal to feel vibrations in the finger when playing relaxed?
@TheTuneProject
@TheTuneProject 4 года назад
You’re right, a good shoulder rest can be a game changer! Hm, if you’re feeling vibrations despite your left hand/arm setup being right, try landing your fingers a little heavier onto the fingerboard. Not forcing or tightening the fingers, just working with gravity and weight. It could be that your strings have higher action, so it might take a little more to get your finger to the fingerboard. Keeping the nails short helps with this too, so you’re able to land them straight down. Hope that helps.

@@TheTuneProject Great info! Will work on those concepts. I spent a lot of years playing a student grade viola then started back on fiddle a few years ago. Keep these videos coming. Thanks for the reply.

Could you show us how to position left hand on violin? thank you
@rennyschweiger
@rennyschweiger Год назад
I'm not getting this, unfortunately. I'm an adult learner but with many years playing guitar and mandolin, and I've been with the violin for about 6 months. I would consider my left hand as quite relaxed, and am VERY conscious of being relaxed everywhere as much as possible to release tension, whether it be in the bow hand and shoulder, or the fingering hand. I believe I have a good fingering (left) hand position, and I have very slight pressure on the sides of the neck with my left hand with the fleshy part of of the thumb just distal (toward the tip) of the first joint right at the edge of the fingerboard, and the side of the first finger's third bone (closest to the palm) gently against the nut. If I were to release my thumb, the neck of the violin would fall, or at least creep) down into the V between my thumb and first finger, that is, unless I have my chin clamped down onto the chin rest, which I don't believe we want. My understanding is that the neck is supported and rests between the first finger and thumb, but does not sit all the way down into the bottom of the V. So if I'm tapping the thumb, the neck is moving around and it is impossible to play smoothly. What am I missing? Thanks for any help, and I really enjoy your videos.

Hi, thank you for the video but i want to ask how you hold the violin in the right position because i feel like it's heavy and my neck starts to hurts when i practice knowing that i have a holder, any tips please?
@chriskelly9653
@chriskelly9653 4 года назад
Vexie 2000 if I am understanding you right what you need to do is place the violin in position up against your next and then relax your neck letting your chin fall into position on the chinrest, don’t try to hold the violin there by pushing down on the rest using your neck but rather just let the weight of your head cause enough pressure on the chinrest, kind of like letting gravity hold the violin between your chin and collarbone region. Hope this helps , if your not getting what it is I am saying contact me and see if I can do a little video to show, picture is worth a thousand words.

I cannot fucking tap without the entire violin going up and down, and theres no counter-pressure for the finger to press the strings. I'm so fucjing frustrated.
