I think that deep down inside many people feel as if this constant push for complexity if harming humanity. As more time passes and more complex things are released, it is starting to become clear that simplicity is the only path to happiness. And it's the only path to happiness because it is natural and it's what our human brains can process. In this video, I share "4 Simple Human Needs To Achieve Happiness."
1. Satisfaction From Your Own Work
Complexity is often about making things easier whether that is through an app or a service. And although it is nice to bring easiness into our lives, it takes away the joy you get from accomplishing a task on your own. When you do your own work, you feel like a human that has value. As humans, we need satisfaction in our lives and when you choose to take the more difficult, simple path of doing things on your own, you end up living a happier life.
2. Mental Clarity
We are living in the decade of "Real Time," where we receive information or results very quickly and process them very quickly. I have come to learn that this complex world of real time information is not something we can learn or be accustomed to because our human brains can't process real time information. Our brains were designed to focus on a smaller amount of tasks because it brings you with more mental clarity. And when you choose the simple path of avoiding as much real time information in your life, you will have more mental clarity leading to a happier life.
3. The Right to Privacy
Due to advancements leading to a more complex world, we are quickly losing our privacy as AI becomes more sophisticated and can understand us better. When you choose to embrace these "smart" devices in bring them in your life, you are choosing to forfeit some of your privacy. And when you lose your privacy, it makes you feel violated and empty inside. When you instead choose to live with more basic, simple things, you protect your privacy and feel more autonomous, which leads to a happier life.
4. Deprivation
I believe that deprivation is a very important human need because it teaches us how to appreciate things in life. Often, complexity makes everything easy in your life and gives you what you want, when you want it, where you want it, which just leads to a dystopian world. It is important to not always take the easy path where you always have what you want and instead deprive yourself every now and then. Because when you deprive yourself, you end up living with more appreciation in life.

Also, people are always told they must have a purpose. I think it's the opposite. Life having no purpose is a blessing. What's wrong with hanging out doing things you enjoy? If you're always seeking purpose but never find it, that only creates a sense of lack.

Just like careers, we are told we must have 1. I felt so much stress to have a “career “ after college that I became depressed. Actually, what we need is to meet all our bills and have extras to save with. I never understood how people live beyond their means, no money mean no spending. Stop making the rich richer.

I will never have an Alexa or similar, they set alarm bells off for me as soon as I learnt what they do. I don't even have internet at home, I don't own a computer. Simple things I enjoy, sweeping instead of vacuuming, hanging my laundry (I don't own a dryer), cooking everything from scratch, growing plants to give away, mending and making clothes.

You are so right. My life has gotten more simple over time. I saved enough money so I didn’t have to work in my early 50’s. I find happiness in simple things. The weather is getting better now and it’s going to be 75 degrees this afternoon where I live so I cleaned the terrasse this morning so that we can have coffee outside this afternoon. Now I’m watching your video. The house is clean, the bills are paid, there is good food on the table. The bike ride will be a lot of fun later today. This is a simple life but so happy!

For instance, if you are lonely and then you get to engage with someone it's magical. In other words, it was worth your wait. A fundamental question is, Who benefits from this more complex world? Clearly it's our "overlords" (the Googles and Facebooks of the world) not us. I don't think these complexities are what most people are seeking but 1) We're growing more and more dependent on them for our basic needs, like getting our medical test results or handling our banking; and 2) the smart phone and and social media outlets are DESIGNED to get us hooked and keep us forever scrolling, shopping, and living in a state of low-level anxiety. It's great to be reminded that we CAN step away and to recognize how much better we (usually) feel without it, and I'm speaking as someone who, this year, walked away from Instagram (and have largely succeeded in staying away). I'm reading "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism" now -- scary stuff indeed. Thank you for the recommendation, Austin!

Yeah, I think a big problem is we connect good, right, and progress with numbers, which don't often connect. The people who created a lot of the complexity don't even use it or allow their kids to use it. I just think when millions of people live together in a society and nobody checks what's going on, crazy things happen. As much as people like to think a market can properly work without regulation, they haven't been to a developing country where people sell rotten meat or you see children working terrible conditions. AI is interesting because it's so complex and quick changing that it's such a new issue that nobody is sure of what to do. I'm very interested to see what will happen and very concerned especially for younger generations as they haven't experienced life without it. The book is a bit of a long, dry read, but is extremely eye opening!

@@DaniOchannel There is a saying among musicians: if everyone wants to be a first violinist , there is no orchestra anymore. Resources are limited and the very rich are so rich because other people are poor. In other words, you are master as long as you have slaves, if you no longer have slaves and work like all other people, you are no longer master. The USA represents only 5% of the planet's pollution, but consumes 25% of its resources. If the entire population of Africa started to live and consume in the American style, it would exceed 2 times the resources of the planet... not including Asia and South America. Sooner or later the western man will have to find his happiness within himself and not in material objects. Otherwise, he will collect those material objects in a bunker, not in a luxury villa. If wealth was the path to happiness, all the rich would be super happy, instead we see their dramas and failures in their personal lives every day. Another very important thing is to live for ourselves and not for others. Pride is the main driver when it comes to these expensive objects, if we don't have pride we don't even feel the need to display these objects.

I think privacy is a very personal thing, as in, we each have different levels of privacy needs and preferences. I know my spouse has a higher level of privacy than me, and I try to respect that, but I also have my right to less privacy and to the conveniences (and responsibilities) that gives me. For example, I would rather have a targeted ad than be shown something that has no relevance to my life or demographic.

I run a mini food business in Paris which have been affected by food inflation and I needed a side hustle that could help me boost my small business, so I could give my employees better wages , I got in contact with Ms. Norman a month ago and my stories became testimonies… I wasn’t charged on my first investment with her. Yes, I received my first returns last week… I’m considering reinvesting

I have a master in mathematical finance, so it wasn’t so easy to get me convinced to begin an investment without me carrying out proper research on her. I had her broker ID checked and she’s fully verified! So I began with a few bucks, only to get huge returns in a month. I reinvested and now I get long term monthly returns… So glad I don’t rely on pay checks anymore.

I work for a mental health company and they opened up in 2016. Since then they have BOOMED and still booming. All this tells me is the world is getting more and more complex and people are suffering more and more with anxiety, depression, unclarity etc. I chose to turn around 2 years ago and chose the simple life like Jesus did. Never will go back to that rat race again... there is no purpose in that hamster wheel.

There is no path. Happiness is the ability to enjoy the moment and it has no condition. Telling people there is just one way to find happiness is pretty toxic.
