Loved this part of your Simple Minds look into than part one. These albums are just EVERYTHING to me as a fan, and Andy, I am DEFINITELY WITH YOU that SAF/SFC are the magnum opus of the band. I love New Gold Dream also, and others. But those two are my “go to” albums as well. Thanks guys! 👍🏻👍🏻

Even though Simple Minds had more commercial success post 1982 and some very good songs truth be told...If they had called it a day after "New Gold Dream " they would still be one of the greatest ever British bands...although a lot poorer financially,their artistic brilliance would be eternal!

Both amazing albums but NGD is just special , it’s ethereal , timeless, and every track is just a refrained masterpiece. 1 NGD 81,82,83,84 2 SAF/SFC 3 ONCE UPON A TIME 4 SPARKLE IN THE RAIN 5 STREET FIGHTING YEARS 6 EMPIRES & DANCE 7 GOOD NEWS FROM THE NEXT WORLD 8 WALK BETWEEN WORLDS 9 BIG MUSIC 10 REAL 2 REAL CACOPHONY

@@electroniccafemusic obviously you both are connoisseurs of great electronic music...if you have never checked out an album called Zero gold by pole folder...it’s an oldie but it’s a masterpiece that incidental was the first album ever to be released on Bedrock records....This guy is a brilliant DJ and producer

Agree, Seeing Out The Angel is their greatest song. It is hard to believe a song so beautiful can fly under the radar for over 40 years. I hope the world "discovers" this song some day so more people can enjoy it.

Great vid again guys, love the early Simple Minds material with New Gold Dream being my favourite but Theme for great cities has to be one of the best instrumentals out there as well. Love the new Moby album as well and will check out the others as well.

Okay lads i admit it. Watching this lead me to dig out this double album. And its a belter thats for sure. I really cannot forgive them for the later big hair 80s stadium stuff. I just cannot get by that bloody breakfast club song. Arrrgh. What makes it worse is this stuff is epic. Most people dont know it in normie land. They probably would not like it. I bloody love it!! Well done. 😎👍

The grand political statements and general pomposity and overbearing impression to be taken seriously of the mid to late 80s makes me cringe. Simple Minds one of the main offenders of course. I generally agree although I like that song you refer to. Probably over heard it though.

I remember buying this double album, never heard of Simple Minds before, took a gamble on it £5 from Woolworths, blew me away, never looked back, bought every album since....Great live band too, seen them many times over the years both here in UK and overseas. Last time I saw them o2 arena supported by Ultravox... Great drums and basslines in every track, hypnotic.

I don't think people realize just how many top quality albums they have released, great band live as well. The Deewee album sounds inpressive from the clip you played so I must check them out.

Sons & Fascination / Sister Feelings Call was my first encounter with Simple Minds and what a great dubbel album it is! "New Gold Dream" is quite close but here you can, in my opinion, start to hear that they were heading towards more commercial and less interesting music. Saw them live in 1982, a few years before the big arenas, and they were really tight then with so much talent. 👍👍

There was an interview done a few years ago with Jim Kerr/Charlie Burchill and they both said Sons and Fascination is their seminal album as far as they are concerned. I agree.

I could say so much about this troublesome pair (I mean the albums, not the reviewers). Wonderful in Young Life and Careful in Career are overlooked and uncomfortable masterpieces. The American is sludge. I bought the albums together the day they came out and thought it was all wrong, too rigid and clean after E&D. I sold it a week later and then bought it again. A 12" of Sweat in Bullet lured me. The music here is magnificent, 20th Century Promised Land is dramatic, like the building of skyscrapers or the Hoover Dam. I have had five or six copies over the years. Sons and Sisters were later combined on cassette. If this is European, it is also American and glances back at Alladin Sane, Bowie's polaroids of the US.

Sweat in Bullet was the catalyst for me as well. I can't imagine being a fan at the time and being turned off when these albums came out. I love Empires but they hit a new stride here
