I had seen similar quilts with this block and did not care for them.....THIS IS GORGEOUS! What a surprise! It has to be because of your balancing the light, medium and dark for each block. Just amazing! I really enjoyed this video and learning how taking a few minutes to carefully balance things can make the difference between a stunning quilt and a ho-hum quilt! Thank you, Donna!

I just did this one….black, white, grey but with pink as the center squares. My friend asked me to make it for her friend with breast cancer. Her favorite color is black and the request was to add pink for breast cancer but I did not want it to be obvious pink. It turned out so pretty! I ended up doing a flange binding with the pink to add that finishing touch. It’s a wonderful pattern and came together amazingly fast

I think that I have watched all of the videos that you have put up. I did see the video where you made the Tradewinds quilt pattern. I enjoy watching Donna put the patterns together from the layout to quilting. I am learning more and more about how to cut, how to iron, when to iron, and which way to iron seams! I love Matts cutting tips, and loved the ironing board that he made. I appreciate the clear directions that you give as to why and how to cut and iron.

You might be able to chain-piece if you do two blocks at a time, alternating between the two sets.

I love this quilt and love your videos. In the very top of my list when I watch quilting videos. My only question is about the size. Do you make quilts that will actually fit a bed? 40 x 60 seems to be the majority of what you make but its a throw size. For a quilt for a wedding gift should it be a larger quilt? Beautiful fabrics, great easy videos and the quilts you do never fail to amaze.

I love the way you turned the blocks so you wouldn't have to worry about conflicting seams. I would never have thought of that. You are a wonderful teacher. This is probably my 140th video in my binge watching. They have all been instructive.

I notice a number of your fabric selections have directional lines. I struggle with cutting and matching the lines in the fabric. Any suggestions???

I like to use prints that are a bit abstract and don't have completely straight lines. This collection has directional prints. but not really straight lines so it was not too hard. I also don't like it if the lines look crooked so I will make sure to iron the fabric and straighten as I go before cutting. When I sew the patchwork I either make all the directional prints go the same way, or I make sure that they all go different ways on purpose.

I have been super careful in measuring. I even put tape on my rulers. I've ironed my jelly rolls prior to cutting. My stitches are 1/4" away from the edge, I've double checked, I've put a long piece of tape on my sewing machine. I sew slowly, I've sewn fast. Why do my squares not match up at the end of doing my 6 1/2's or my 10 1/2's ????? What could I be doing wrong??? I'm stumped. I realize it's not easy to give me a concrete answer when you can't see me actually sewing but I thought you might know some other tidbit I could be doing wrong. Btw, LOVE your video's. You are such a fantastic instructor. I'll try and send you a picture of my "Hip To Be Square" lap quilt when I'm done. I may have to email it to you. Oh! I've also made sure I'm not stretching the fabric like I've heard you mention on one of your other video's. See, I do pay attention.. lol

I have the same problem. I have a feeling my quarter inch is totally off. I am going going to try the following. Cut up a bunch of 2 1/2" squares, sew 3 together, iron, measure. Should be 6 1/2". Rinse, repeate until I find it. Feet are different, plates are different (my plate is metric), I can shift my needle.

I love your Quilts and Videos, I watch daily for inspiration, can I ask? Can you do a video on how you add the batting and the back fabric before quilting on your machine and binding the quilt PLEASE, I'm new to quilting, slowly building up my fabric collection, but I've only ever seen videos on batting small lap quilts/baby quilts, not large King/Queen size quilts, does the back fabric have seams down the middle if your fabric isn't big enough??? And do you sew strips of batting together to the size of your quilt??? Sorry Sooo many questions, Many thanks in Advance xxx

it would be Oh So Helpful, if at the beginning of the process, after you have selected fabric, you would talk Just A Minute about the block(s) you're going to make. Just picking fabric and then starting into the "cut 2 1/2" strips" doesn't give the viewer any idea of where you're going with this. No idea what the target is. I love your finished projects and your efficiency in cutting fabric, but Never have enough information while you work thru the process to know WHY we're doing "this" now. "I put 4 of the strips here, and 3 of the strips here".... WHY?

I have 2 Moda scrap bag jelly roll packs that are 3" cuts. They are fall colors...lots of browns. Now I know what to do with them 😊. Going to scale up and make a Queen sized quilt.

Am embarking on making this monochromatic quilt, however with more than six fabrics (including some fabulous newly purchased prints as well as fabrics from a friend's stash), so it will be a little more "scapy" as she calls it. I wouldn't normally be attracted to a black & white monochromatic quilt, but so many of our young "kids" are attracted to the black/grays/and whites in their home decoration choices. I am immensely enjoying your pattern instructions, thank you.

Thank you for showing us your videos Donna. I have to stop trying to shave off steps and stop pretending that its easier than it looks I need to be patient I need to do each step properly and not just think that each piece will measure up by skipping steps like i said.. Nothing worse than you going through making videos and people not paying proper att'n like me, huh? I promise to pay proper attention from now on. Thank you very much!! I even have a ruler that has a hole at the 1/4" mark that I drop my needle into to make sure I have a 1/4" seam allowance, but I shall persevere and figure it out.

I DESPERATELY want that fabric! Square in a square was my next project but I couldn't decide on fabrics. Your colour choices are the same type I'd have chosen for my corporate wardrobe. I'm still not too comfy with mega colours. Love your presentations. Thank you for being queen (and king) of "the good stuff" !

Great looking quilt! Grays are popular in home decor now, but I find gray walls to be dismal. This quilt can add gray to a room in a cheerful way. The wiggle-weave quilting pattern is perfect for this quilt.

Love the design and those fabrics! At first I thought this would be way too small for a wedding gift quilt - but once I saw how Donna finished it with a stop border and wider outer border, I realized it’s the perfect size for a throw to snuggle under while reading a book or watching tv or doing a handicraft. For the longest time I have been trying to find just the right quilt pattern to make.. I make children's quilts for charity and have been looking for an easy and quick pattern to make them with.. then I watched your video and knew this was the "One" Thank you for the wonderful video. I think I can make them using the chain strip method... using the print, solid, print instead of light, med, dark.. it's in my head .. I think.. :)

Another one if your great ideas. You always make them easy to follow..I don't know of any other person that writes out the measurements as you do. It really does make it easier to cut all in advance.
