In Today’s video I will show you how easy it is to add a Verdigris finish to copper. It also works with nickel and brass metal. The results happen QUICKLY and you will be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is!
You can spray with a fixative afterwards or you can leave it alone. We used to use this technique in my bead shop on metal jewelry projects and we did not spray it. Either way you can't go wrong!
Have fun and if you try it, let me know...
A few ways that you can support my Artsy Life and also own some of my art work.... Occasionally I will sell some of my Hand made journals and I also recycle items from precious vintage finds.

Hey I really enjoyed the Video and your art! But please wear gloves and in the future put ammonia at the end (and maybe work outside). I used to work in a chemistry lab and that made me so nervous. it is really unhealthy and can damage your lungs and eyes badly. also coppersulfate (the most gorgeous blue in my opinion) is unhealthy when ingested, so I recommend you just wear some gloves. :) I dont like to tell people what to do, but it is Pretty dangerous. Stay save and artsy! ^^

You are deforming the metal but if you put a sealer over it when you're done, it should be fine and won't keep oxidizing.

I have 1 other question and would love to hear from an experience person. How do I properly dipose the used ( copper filled) ammonia and the water I rinse it with ? I can't really find any information about safely disposing it. Some say dilute it with water, but I'm afraid it will be harmful to aquatic beings. Right now I'm just storing it to take it waste place but I'm curious how you handle it and if there is an easier way. Thank you

Do we NEED the other type of salt?
@JeriBellini
@JeriBellini Год назад
Just use whatever salt you have. The larger salt crystals will leave a slightly different look.

Hi Marcus, Honestly I can't answer that.... I just fool around with stuff and I don't know the scientific end of it. I hope you'll try it!

Does this do the same with brass??? I see you mention brass in the title, but don't talk about it.

Try this (and I have fooled around with brass and had success) Mix 4 ounces hydrogen peroxide, 1/2 ounces of white vinegar, and some salt.

Great video, small correction having nothing to do with your process. It’s called “verde” (ver like very, de like day) not “verdegre”. Thanks!!

No actually that's incorrect this isnt the color green in Spanish "verde" this is a patina finish on metal known and pronounced as ver deh gree spelled verdigris.. tho it is derived from the word verde I'm sure, she was pronouncing it perfectly.. if you dont believe me I'm sure you can ask the old Google box to define and then pronounce it for you.

Small correction on your small correction. We use the term Vert-de-gris in French that became "verdigris" in Middle English from the Old French verte grez, an alteration of vert-de-Grèce ("green of Greece")
@annbelden798
@annbelden798 5 лет назад
Linda, it is called verdigris: verdigris | ˈvərdəˌɡrēs | noun a bright bluish-green encrustation or patina formed on copper or brass by atmospheric oxidation, consisting of basic copper carbonate. ORIGIN Middle English: from Old French verte-gres, earlier vert de Grece ‘green of Greece’.
