If I may, "My Alien" isn't about an falling in love with an actual alien. It's actually much worse. I mean, who was SP's main demographic? Emo, punk, hipster girls. Many of them feel like social outcasts who don't connect with anyone. Almost like they're... aliens to the people around them. It's supposed to be complete pandering to the pretentious girls who see themselves as so different from everybody else; kind of like how 1 Direction uses vague lyrics to entice girls into thinking they're singing directly to them. The "4 legs to wrap around me" stuff is supposed to be a metaphor for charming and quirky traits these girls have that aren't accepted by other people. It's the dumbest, most pandering song on the album.

If there's one album you should review for regretting the past in my opinion, it's Save Me San Francisco by Train. A song like Hey Soul Sister in my opinion should never have been as popular as it was and it's one of the most if not the most overplayed "rock" songs of the 2000s. I actually do respect the band for the most part and do like some of their material, I just think that album is a joke with the exception of the title track. Other than that, it's such a whiny and generic album that never should have been as big as it was.

@eddiedingle767
@eddiedingle767 3 года назад
It's weird. I know that every band is someone's favorite band and that every song is at least someone's favorite song. However, I have never met a Train fan. I have met people who have said things like "Meet Virginia" and "Drops of Jupiter" are good songs, but that's about where the buck stops. I think they just happened to buy a lot of air space or make song so simple that they fit into any commercial, and force you to like it. I don't think anyone actively likes it, any sales were out of Stockholm syndrome
@kylehegedus5498

I really like their first album. The one with “Meet Virginia” on it. I also like a song by them that’s on the Spider-Man II soundtrack. It’s called “Ordinary.”
@MACMAMI
@MACMAMI Год назад
Their debut album was decent, and their sophomore album was blandly overproduced but did have a few standouts in "Hopeless", "Mississippi" and "Respect". I actually think the band's downfall began with their third album "My Private Nation". I always pinpoint THAT, NOT "Save Me, San Francisco", as where Monahan first went off the deep end in terms of lyrical corniness and obsession with pop-cultural references. I did not like that album at all, although I can single out "Lincoln Avenue" as a solid track. Their fourth album is actually my favorite album of theirs. And it's s a shame it was a huge commercial flop because I genuinely feel Monahan wrote many of his most emotionally heartfelt songs this era. "Skyscraper" was a powerful deeper cut. Same with "Always Remember". "All I Ever Wanted" was a poignant album-opener. Then there were other tracks where I loved how they leaned into both an amped-up rock and roll as well as R&B flavor such as "I'm Not Waiting In Line" and "Am I Reaching You Now". I get that Monahan and the band genuinely felt miserable and unhappy during the sessions, but it still produced damn good music then. Very little of what they've released (or I should say Monahan now) since "For Me, It's You" has done anything for me. I can acknowledge "Bruises" was a damn solid single. "Parachute" was a bit corny lyrically but it did sound sincere and I loved the punch of it. I liked "Son Of A Prison Guard" and "The Bridge" off of "Bulletproof Picasso". But, sadly, that's really it.

@riokamichika1101
@riokamichika1101 7 лет назад
1: I really liked this song. As a Japanese middle/high school student, I was unfamiliar with rock music at the time. And this song actually did introduce me to the genre. So, I have plenty of nostalgia around it. 2: Yeah, I will admit this song is pretty juvenile. I mean, it's not even explained _why_ it's the "worst day ever". So, yeah. I didn't really like this song, either. 3: Apart from the crappy lyrics, it does have a nice beat and rhythm to it. 4: Okay, I agree. This song is just stupid. 5: I thought it was alright, even with the dumb lyrics. 6: I found it to be a decent song. 7: I agree, this song is dumb as hell. Not as bad as "I'm Just a Kid", but still pretty stupid. 8: Okay, I will admit, this was a pretty weird song. But I did get a chuckle out of it. 9: Pretty stupid song. So, yeah. I agree with you on this. 10: I like the rhythm, but the vocals and writing were pretty dumb. 11: I...have no words for this song. Even _I_ can't defend this. 12: I can relate to this. Sure, it's stupid to most people, but I still have nostalgia towards it. As someone that tried to kill herself, I wanted something a bit more therapeutic. It also made me feel a bit better. As for this album, I still have a soft spot for Simple Plan. While this album isn't as good as I remember, there still are some decent tracks that I have nostalgia for. No Pads, No Helmets, Just Balls, stupid as that title is, has a few tracks that I liked. Even if the album as a whole is mostly hit-and-miss.

I was in my early 20s when this came out. I liked "Addicted" the first time I heard it (for reasons beyond the line a 12 year old wouldn't laugh at), and "Perfect" was a great song for personal reasons pertaining to the lyrics. But that's it really. They helped me discover what punk was though: "Hey, this kinda sucks, but I like the sound. I wonder if someone does it better". And then I found Bowling For Soup who are light years better at the actual punk AND the lighthearted tone that SP fails at so hard. But yes, they suck.

No Pads, No Helmets, No Nothing... Here are my thoughts on No Pads, No Helmets... Just Balls by Simple Plan; 1: I kinda like this song, even if it sounds nasally though not as much as Wes Scantlin. Also, they abuse the "Na-Na-Na" lyrics far too much, and people like to hate on All the Small Things? 2: Okay, this song is just stupidly bad. How was this even a song, yet alone an _idea_ of a song? 3: Yeah, it gets really bad here. It just sounds like so cheesy and juvenile. It's really bad, even worse than the last song. 4: I take that back, this song is worse. It's like they were trying to appeal to little kids, but fail miserably... 5: I'm starting to take this band less seriously the more I listen to it. But hey, it's still better than the last three songs, though. 6: Alright, this does feel like they put some effort into it. 7: "Tee-hee, he said 'dick'. Isn't that clever?" Yeah, I feel like they're trying way too hard, in all the wrong ways. 8: Well, now. I hope he's not talking about me. Well, the song is just generic and forgettable. But I see this guy has some alien fetish. Not sure what to say about that... 9: God must have him for all the stupid things he did... *facepalm* 10: Sure, the lyrics are pretty crap, but the guitar work was decent. 11: "Nananananananana....." That's all I hear. 12: While it still sounds pretty whiny, but it delivers a pretty decent message and can be a bit relatable. No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls was really juvenile and laughably bad. Sure there are some songs I liked (I give anything a chance), but more often than not, it falls flat. To put it bluntly, as well as pads and helmets, this album lacks balls.

Oh, Simple Plan. I remember listening to these guys one time, and I didn't really get it. While I kinda like Punk Rock such as New Found Glory, blink-182, and Sum 41, I never got the appeal of Simple Plan. Apart from their self-titled album, none of their work were interesting to me. Here's what I think about "No Pads, No Helmets......and, No Balls"
@aikoyumi4014
@aikoyumi4014 7 лет назад
1: Has a nice hook, and the instrumentals were decent. Only thing is the vocals. Seriously, the lyrics are generic and cheesy as hell. Though it does sound like it would belong in a racing game from the early-to-mid-2000's. 2: I just don't get it. At all. 3: Same old boring shit. 4: Good god, this song was everywhere. And I couldn't understand why. 5: Meh. It's alright, but it's uninteresting. 6: Absolute snoozefest. 7: Yeah, this song is dumb. And I usually have a soft spot for dirty stuff. 8: Alright, this got a laugh out of me. 9: Okay, now this is ridiculous. Now they're just bitching about random shit. 10: Well, it has an alright beat, but holy hell, those vocals. 11: No. Just no. "My house is like a prison" uh, how old are these guys? What are they under house arrest? Don't answer that. 12: Alright, this was okay. Even with the whiny lyrics, I can understand how people can relate to this. Perhaps the only song I could tolerate. So yeah, I didn't like this album. It's not very good. Even if I were a teenager, I still wouldn't get the appeal. Apart from 1 or 2 songs, there's nothing I would find interesting about this band. I mean, I'm no stranger to pop punk, but this felt like "bottom of the barrel" to me.

I can really really dig catchy music. Pop-punk (in those days) was extremely catchy, so I concider some of the best pop"punk" albums by my favourites of all time (The Offspring (Americana, Smash), Weezer (Pinkerton + Blue), Green Day (Dookie + Nimrod) are all in my top 100 side tot side with Beatles and Bob Dylan albums). There is nothing wrong with the genre, as long as you do it honest. This album by Simple Plan, and their hole discography, is pure garbage tho. ALTHOUGH I like 'Welcome To My Life', I don't know why.... Sorry. I also keep liking 'The River' and 'Lifestyle...' by Good Charlotte (rest of their discography i hate but...). Nothing wrong with liking certain songs, it's not healthy to compress your feelings to certain songs...
