Nice work! I did this as well 6 months ago with a lithium battery, only weighs 10 kg , absolutely brilliant, I only run solar to charge it at the moment but am going to get the itech world dc/dc charger pre wired with Anderson plugs.👍 hope your getting paid for your videos these days, they are full of information, I know you don’t do it for the money but still would be nice 🍺👍 keep up the good work!!
Thanks Steve . Will be good when you get your dc charger with the mppt regulator 👍 I just used the old redarc dc charger that was laying around in the shed. I get some beer money from RU-vid . I only do this as a hobby as no way it would pay the bills. Thanks for watching mate 👍🍻
good DIY video. Not sure if i would cram all that gear in the box with the battery. Things like Chargers and Solar charge controllers can run hot. Some people end up putting small 12v fan on a thermal switch just to push the air out. Best of luck with your build my friend.
Cheers mate👍 mainly did this for the wife’s car to run the fridge . Was concerned about that about putting everything in the box but will see how it goes through the summer probably just lift the lid off or will end up putting in a little computer fan . End up removing the Victron as was no need for a solar input as battery will run fridge for 3 days if the car wasn’t started.. her car is used daily . Look forward to your next upload mate 👍🍻
Thanks mate the portability is awesome. Lithium all the eay for sure. Once you get lithium, you’ll never go back to agm as im sure you would agree..Just seen your portable setup which is a absolute bewwtie 🇦🇺👍🍻
Watched this super late last night and watching again Dino. Awesome as always mate. You got me really thinking about purchasing a portable battery box for our people Mover mate. Would love to be able to have a fridge\freezer option in our second vehicle. Stay safe out there Dino as always mate.
Thanks Jason and thanks for your continued support. Yes nice and simple and perfect for your people mover mate and also extra power for your cruiser when you go camping as it’s totally portable. I wish I went with this in the first place when I first did a dual battery setup 👍 hope all is well 👍🍻
@@EFFICIENTSELF it’s a fantastic idea mate it really is. I would need to seriously consider going to lithium though if going mobile. Current set up in cruiser is AGM but could see where this box with lithium works wonders Hope you and the family are all well ans safe mate
Great job Dino. Bit more time explaining why the red and blue wires can be wired together and perhaps explaining situations that they can not? Just an idea buddy.
Sorry mate the blue wire is the ignition wire and needs to be connected to a power source when ignition is turned on. This case I just connected to power wire as not all dc chargers have ignition wires. Cheers mate 👍🍻
Another great video. I have the same battery box with the Sunyee 100AH lithium battery and the 20 amp dc-dc charger with built in MPPT solar regulator. The charger is mounted on the box lid. The charger has Anderson plugs fitted and I just use the input/output Anderson plugs that are mounted on the Kings battery box. As you know many of the portable solar panels come fitted with a PWM OR MPPT regulator so you can just plug these direct into the battery box. If you are going to have a solar regulator perm on the box like you have people need to realize they have to remove the regulator that comes with the solar panel.
Thanks Fred . Awesome mate and hope you been getting good use out of your setup. And thanks for mentioning about removing or bypassing the regulator that come with portable panels , as I never mentioned (my bad) thanks for watching 👍🍻
@@EFFICIENTSELF I know you like experimenting....here’s an idea for you. I saw a brief video where a guy hooked up his solar regulator to his car battery using the panel connections and used it to charge his portable battery. May not work with a smart alternator but would work with an alternator that pumps out anything close to 14v. You must be collecting an array of spare bits and pieces by now to consider having a go.? Just need to fit a fuse on the +ve panel lead.
I actually tried this with my 50amp atem power dc charger and battery box .. the car start battery got to 13.7v and then dc started charging then stopped when the voltage got down to around 13.1v (start batt) then had to wait till the solar charged the battery up to 13.7v and so on… might give it a go with the redarc charger and batt as redarc is only 20 amp
@@EFFICIENTSELF just to make sure we are on the same page, the video I saw had the guy using only a solar regulator. Did not connect it to a DC DC charger. I was thinking of having a go. I have a 10amp MPPT reg that I removed off of my solar panel as I connect solar through my DC DC/MPPT charger now. My Jeep alternator pumps out 14v . I’ll need to read my solar panel specs to see what the min solar voltage point is. This 12v stuff is addictive!
Hi mate good video, Just a question, You dont have to ground the DC earth to your vehicle but just to your battery? Im just wondering would this work if i plug my sola earth to the battery as well or that needs to be grounded to the car.. As i got an BCDC Core In-Cabin 25A DC Battery Charger on its way.
I left the orange wire disconnected to get agm mode . you can go on the redarc website and search your charger and you can look at user manual to be sure … as it’s been a while now this charger packed it in after 9 years of use . thanks for watching 👍🍻
Just came across your channel mate. Good stuff. I'm the same... in hindsight would go the portable route rather than the auxiliary fixed under the bonnet. Quick question... did you find the non-lithium Redarc charged your lithium well enough? I've got the same Redarc but have heard it won't charge the lithium to full capacity... but for me the extra power and weight saving from lithium outweighs getting the lithium only 80-90% charged. Cheers 🍻
You better off with a lithium charger. All that hype about drop in lithium to charge on an agm profile is nonsense. My redarc finally gave up the ghost but its not bad for a 10 year old dc charger. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching 👍🍻
I have a duel battery system in my car already with an Anderson plug on back of car that I hook up to my caravan and or camper trailer that have onboard agm’s. Question can I use that point if I put in a set up Like this in the camper trailer? Or have to take the point off the second battery up front as it’s off the aux battery that’s running threw the redarc system?
hey Daryl . I haven’t explored the induction cooking way yet . maybe one day I might try it but I’m happy just cooking on gas or using the microwave… there are videos on RU-vid though of people going to induction cooking as it’s very popular. thanks for watching 👍🍻
@@EFFICIENTSELF ok, I thought given you've gone the way of heaps of lithium power, have an invertor in your vans thought it was a no brainer for yourself. But good on you for taking the time to count us in on your build/s processes they are just what your viewers are interested in. Thanks Dino.
Thanks for the video Had same system in old car and sold it Thought it was alot harder than that to do Can you let me know of ypu need to run an ignition wire with the red arc Thanks in advance Breno
I just connected the ignition wire to positive …if you have smart alternator than the ignition wire goes to a power source when the ignition is turned on . As in the video it was a 2020 model Mitsubishi asx and I didn’t need to worry about the ignition wire
Hi Dino love your videos mate . I recently bought the same kings battery box and also the victron mppt controller. Did you end up putting the victron mppt controller inside the box ? If so, how's the air flow does it get hot ? Safe to do so ? Thanks Dom
I put 2 computer fans inside rthe box one on intake and the other on exhaust for the airflow as it got very hot inside the box… if you can’t fit it all inside just mount the victron outside the battery box .. i end up taking out the victron mppt and just use the dc charger.. thanks for watching my videos I really appreciate it 👍🍻
Hi there Dino, with redarc 1220 will charge any lithium batteries I two VOLT X LIFEPRO 4 LITHIUMS with upgrade BMS have you with either lithium batteries look forward to hear from you thanks.
Hey bruce i dont have any voltx lithium batteries.. this redarc is the older type ….. The battery i have apparently can take agm profile battery chargers in your case you need to go the redarc 1225d as it gas lithium profile.. hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍🍻
Thanks Dino great video's too,wot latest Renogy 30amp dc-dc charger with mppt solar inputs have heard about them I see you had there battery monitor how it going, thanks. Are good for wot I be doing.
Hey Dino. Any tips on how to run a 3rd battery just for on occasion at work in my 24v truck? Im going to run it in a little battery box but just wondering how I can wire it from my main 24v supply so it gets a charge while driving but wont flatten my main batteries if I happen to want to run something like a small cooler at work off my 3rd/spare battery.
Hey Brett 👍 to be honest I have never done this before . Maybe search RU-vid and hopefully someone has done a video on this.. I know you can get 24v dc dc chargers but I’m not sure if they put out 12v on the output . Maybe go onto redarc and ask them the question if they do a dc charger with 24v in and you want to charge a 12v battery , maybe they have a charger for this . Only thing I know you can get 24v dc charger and rig up another 24 v battery bank and you can wire up the same way I have in this video but you will be 24v system. Then you could get a 24v to 12v down converter if you need 12v. Sorry I couldn’t give you a solid tip . Maybe somebody will reply with some sound advice..👍🍻
Thanks for the heads up .. yeah I just went on the sellers eBay ads and they say perfect for charging laptops and electronics and when you read the specs of the can inverters they are modified sine wav. … something I definitely should of mentioned….thanks again and thanks for watching 👍🍻
This battery has continuous 100 amp discharge and maximum inverter you could run from this battery would be a 1200watt and it would need to be connected to the battery terminals . Thanks for watching 👍🍻
There is lots of stuff online . Google is your friend . It’s just an interest of mine I been doing for the last 5 years.. I didn’t know anything when I started . Just watch lots of videos and ask questions using google and you will find answers. 👍🍻
