Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been having a terrible time with shredding thread, and I sew for a living, so it’s been beyond frustrating. Is replacing the hook assembly difficult? I live on an island and have to do all repairs myself. I’m nervous I’ll really mess up my machine, it’s juki DDL 5550N. Any advice or knowledge you could share would be greatly appreciated! Btw, darling girl and future expert sewist!

Excellent information, well-presented! I suppose you have a video on skipped stitches, and also on the top thread bunching up above the needle. Juki DNU-1541, size 21 needle, T-90 thread. Mostly I have no problem (or very few) with this combination, but it started happening now and it's a real problem. Sewing totes/bags using 14 oz cotton canvas, multiple layers. Will search your videos, but any reply is welcome!

Thanks so much for this video. I have a question, as I have done this tip before and it works great when sewing forward. However I find that my thread will still fray and break when I am going in reverse, primarily when darning back and forth over a patching area. I have changed needles, tension, stitch size but it continues. Is there another place that may need attention too. I have a Juki 5550N. Thanks 😊

Make sure you have the following: Backlatch spring in bobbin case Foot is not making contact with the plate Tension is not too tight (Check hook timing and make sure it matches your needle size) Check plate needle hole for damage I would try these and see if that helps. When darning the thread moves in many different directions so that will alter the thread path. Make sure your thread is in the thread guide right above the needle.

Should the rotary hook still be able to spin all the way around in the machine?
@ABCSewingMachineInc

Yes if it's a rotary hook then the inside Basket is held by some finger or stopper as the outer hook spins.

Is that part easy to take out so i can sand it? Juki 8700H

No need to take out. Just tilt machine head back and turn the hand pulley to get the hook in place and sand from the bottom. Will be more difficult to put back in time if removed. If you want to remove though, watch our how to time your hook video on RU-vid.

what causes these nicks?
@ABCSewingMachineInc

Broken or bent needles are the most common causes for this. Once you have a needle break you should take those few seconds to check for damage. Not worth having broken threads and damaging your fabrics for only a few extra seconds of checking for damage.
