A camping hack I use at home for quick dishwashing is: A spray bottle with dish soap/water -- I wet my sponge and spray the dish and easily clean it, you can also use a spray bottle with your hot water to rinse. I use an empty glass vinegar bottle with a sprayer from a used bottle. It is ever so handy - can use to clean my stove top also. Loved the video - always look forward to watching your projects.

Great job on a genius and beautiful sink/stove build! Love that you share the mistakes as well as the fixes! An idea on doing dishes-maybe clean the largest item first (your pan), then use IT as a vessel to hold the soapy water, wash all the items and set them in the sink, then rinse all (including the pan) at one time in the sink.

PVC on/off valve under the drain instead of a plug, and then a flexi tube into bucket so you don't have to move the bucket a lot. Also a shelf above and to the side of the sink with a 5 gal water tank with flexi tube for rinsing and drinking water. Thanks for the ideas. Small kitchens are tough. Looks great.

"Use what you have" is my motto too! :D Nice build. You put screen over the insulation??? Brilliant! Thank you! Shallow plastic bucket (like the hospital kind) to rinse your dishes. It can live in the sink when not in use. Towel rack on the left side of the cabinet and or a fold-up shelf for more counter space.

I'd recommend a rubber stopper for the sink (you really can't go wrong with those). For rinsing it might be good to use one of those plastic rinse bottles with the narrow tip like they use to irrigate wounds or rinse beakers down. It's simple, portable, and wouldn't use tons of water.

First off you have done a fantastic job! Well done👍🏻 My advice is to get one of those kitchen faucets from rv kitchen sinks. They somehow bend down towards the sink when not in use. That way you can close the drawer that holds the sink. 👍

Use a plastic container to hold the soap water that is about 1/3 the size of the sink. Use your cloth to clean the dishes with the soapy water. Then, rinse on the 2/3 side of the sink where the drain is. I do this even in my home sink. Loved the video!

Greetings from Russia. Great house. Why don't you use electricity for heating? It is clear that there is a forest around, there is a lot of firewood, but electricity is easier. In addition, the stove takes up space, and you can’t put anything next to it. You can also use an electric stove and oven instead of a gas cylinder. About windows, you can use multi-chamber windows with two or three glasses for better heat conservation. Well done, hello dog, good luck!😊
@blackspruce1861
@blackspruce1861 3 месяца назад
Thanks !! all I have for electricity is a 100 watt solar panel and a battery it would need a huge upgrade to make electric heat possible . most electric electric heaters even small ones use at least 750 watts on low and 1500 on high . the windows are double pane glass .

I live off grid in a 10 by 20 shed Amish building and I use a weed sprayer to rinse my dishes.. it's just a 1 gallon from harbor freight that I adapted the hose on to take a kitchen sprayer rinse nozzle on it.. Your pump up the pressure and it's great for rinsing and for taking off-grid showers although I do have a 4 gallon that I use for taking showers.. I just keep the one gallon sprayer in the bucket underneath my sink when not in use because I always empty my bucket underneath the sink after I do dishes I don't want any of those nasty smells

Electrician here. If you still wanted to use that receptacle, you probably could use a power strip; just place it on the outside of the cabinet and drill a big enough hole so the cord can go inside. Given what I've seen you do so far, I know you have the skill to wire the cord direct, that is if you want to keep that receptacle closed off. Just make sure you have a blank cover with a drilled opening just big enough for the cord to fit through (or have a black plastic connecter punched through the hole to seal the opening a bit more). It's a bit Jerry-rigged, but it's still safe. If you're worried about water from the bucket, you can further shield the back of the cabinet with a cheap plastic sheet against the wall or a foam mat. Just something to think about if you really need that receptacle.

Love watching the progress on your little getaway cabin and the efficient kitchenette is a great idea. I grew up camping the old style way, canvas cabin tent, sleeping bags on the ground and outhouses. It was uncommon to have electricity at the campsite. My mother would carry two plastic tubs for dishwashing, one fit inside the other. She used one for washing the other for rinse. If you use a bio-friendly soap, the water can be tossed into the shrubbery. Even when I eventually got a popup camper with a sink, I preferred to wash dishes in the same manner outside rather than inside. Simple but effective.

What a great addition to your cabin. Living simply doesn't always mean you have to go without a few creature comforts. As for rinsing off the dishes, I have a half gallon pump up spray bottle that I purchased from a garden store, it has an adjustage nozzle that can be turned down to a fine mist spray, and I find this absolutely perfect for washing off the soapy suds without using lots of water. To rinse dishes, a collapsible dishpan can collect the clean, soapy dishes, then you can either pour the rinse water down the drain when done (or keep it for the next wash, adding boiling water and additional soap when you're ready to wash the next load of dishes).

Could get a plastic dish tub for camping to hot water in to rinse the dishes. Once you've dumped it, it should fit neatly in your sink for storage.

🌷Get a metal dish pan dish water can be heated on the wood stove or kept warm there, works good. Grandfather lived 45 years like that.😊

Suggestion for rinsing and drying dishes: you can buy a dish drying rack that typically sits on the counter beside the sink, then get the plastic mat that goes underneath for run-off water into the sink. You can use both to then rinse and dry the dishes. Additionally, if you get a stainless steel drying rack, you could probably move the dishes to ontop of the stove for a fast dry-heat drying :)
@blackspruce1861
@blackspruce1861 4 месяца назад
oh thats a good idea just put them in the rack soapy then pour the water over them and let it drain into the sink great idea !!

Lovely Kitchenette! Love the roll-out sink! Just an FYI, Teflon tape not advised on flare gas fittings. Keep up the great work & videos! I love watching them.

Great video. Just a fyi on your gas fittings. Tape is not used for any flared fitting. The part that came out of your stove and the part the flex line attaches to seals on the end of it, not the threads. Pipe tape just makes it harder to get tight. If the pipe is just threads without the flange at the tip then it needs tape. Yours probably wont leak, but just information for the future.
@blackspruce1861
@blackspruce1861 4 месяца назад
Thanks !! I kinda figured that but thought the tape might help . I think I'll get a gas detector and mount it in that area just incase .

Water in a large plastic spray bottle would rinse your dishes. A simple over sized bath tub plug would fix that sink issue. Dollar stores sell those in packs of 3 ..with each plug top being a different diameter yet the stopper that fits in the drain hole is the same size on all 3.
