In today's video we're making a simple steam engine out of a tea light candle!Have you ever wondered: Can I make a steam engine at home? TKOR has done some fun and random experiments in the past and in this video, we're just experimenting if it is possible to make a tea light steam engine? What will happen? King Of Random also has some other fun tests we performed. Hopefully this gives you an idea as to what can or can’t be experimented with when it comes to making a steam engine.
This entertaining steam engine experiment is perfect for those wanting to know if you can make a tea light steam engine, steam engine DIY, how to make a steam engine at home, homemade steam machine, candle steam engine, stream engine, steam power hacks, how to make steam into power, steam engine 101, steam motors, and more!
If you want to test something creative and entertaining or do an activity such as: science experiment, STEM project, STEM science experiment, science fair project, science fair experiment, or a fun weekend project...watch the video to learn more.

ARGOS CENTURIAN Not really, the basics are the same
@aeu569
@aeu569 4 года назад
@@argoscenturian6535 the principle is the same, the coil ejects steam and the difference of pressure makes the atmospheric pressure on the water push it into the coil. Bend both tubes one way and its the same as a pop pop boat. The only real difference is the boiler that a pop pop normally has, but the principle of ejecting steam and "sucking up" water is exactly the same.

Fill the tubing with sand before bending, the sand will prevent it from kinking, and hold it's shape better rather than flattening out. Then remove the sand with a vacuum or a puff of air.
@seansullivan6952
@seansullivan6952 4 года назад
sand's a great suggestion on larger dimension tubes, I've used it on copper and pvc tubes over 1/4 inch diameter. For a small dimension tube like this, try talcum powder, corn starch, or baking powder. Sand has too large of a grain to easily fill small tubes - and empty them later.
@maxk4324
@maxk4324 4 года назад
@@seansullivan6952 I would go with the baking soda option if the tubing is for actual hydraulic or pneumatic plumbing though. Talc is a thickening agent for lubricants, and cornstarch has a similar effect when it hits greeses, oils, or water based liquids. This means that you'd have to remove all greeses and oils and heat it to boil off any moisture first. Otherwise cleaning is a nightmare. However baking soda readily dissolves in polar liquids and so if you flush it out with water once or twice you can be pretty sure its all gone.

Great fun, thanks. As kids, we'd do this stuff all day and we learned 👍 It is all just as important as it was fifty years ago. You mentioned hobby stores, we used to have them here in 'junk' UK, great for budding engineers, DIY, and kids. They're gone. Luckily we have lots of cafes, coffee shops, charity shops and supermarkets. Also on one High Street you can find several hairdressers and nail bars, junk shops, 'Factory' shops and Pound Shops. It's a real shame for the kids here.

I had a bathtub "putt putt" boat that ran with this candle motor 55 years ago. It was made in Japan after the war (Cheap Japanese Junk - at the time :-) The loop was horizontal (not verticle - I think you got that wrong) and it made twice the power as this design and a cool "Putt Putt" noise.

I have 4 ideas that I think are going to be pretty cool! :) Please try them! 1. Grind up some sparklers and make homemade thermite 2. Put some lithium in a divot in a block of dry ice with some water and see if it will burn 3. Run a ridiculously large amount of electric current through some light bulbs in a series circuit and make them simultaneously pop 4. Put a stun gun or some electric current near a metal spinning fan blade

Nice idea. It works even better when you bend the bottoms of the tube in the same direction. Because one sucks and the other blows. That way they don't try to cancel each other out. Also, when you place the candle a bit more to the side of the bottom of the loop, then it heats up the side of the loop, which might help circulation a bit.

Like others have said, bend both tubes to point in the same direction. But also very important, offset the candle to one side. Heated water will rise causing it to flow in one direction resulting in one intake tube and one exhaust tube, and the orientation of both help the contraption spin in the same direction.

You should have bent both tubes the same direction so that as it turned water would be forced into one of the tubes as it shot out the other

Wouldn't it perhaps also turn the suction into a driving force too? As it is now I think it brakes everything.
@spaghettiwaffles
@spaghettiwaffles 4 года назад
I don’t think it would make that much of a difference because there is only two holes in the coil so when the water goes out one end then it would be forced to enter the other end to equalize pressure

Helpful hint when bending tubing. Fill with flour,sugar,sand, or some fine material, crimp ends and bend away. No crimps anymore.

Just saying, a pop pop boat is much easier to make. No fancy tubes required, just a candle, aluminium can, juice carton, blue tack and some straws.

But wouldn't the candle just light the fumes and set the whole thing on fire? Hm, then again, that could be pretty awesome. Imagine actually doing that with the metal salts for colored flame added in. They would probably plug up the tubing rather soon, but it should look pretty cool until then.

Sean Parkes no metal cannot evaporate its not a liquid😂, is a like a liquid when melted but still cant evalorate bcz its not a proper liquid that goes through the water cycle, which u learn at school..
@jdj5959
@jdj5959 6 лет назад
Tony Paz Actually, all matter can become liquid. Gallium becomes liquid at around 80 degrees Farenheit. Some matter, such as wood, has a burning point that is below it's melting point, rendering it unable to melt. But all metals have extremely high burning points, so all metals melt into liquid. Water freezes into ice, though not a metal, still melts like metal. Just because something is not liquid at room temperature does not mean it cannot melt.

Tips for bending pipes/tube : Insert a wire in, it will give resistance to kinking. For this one i would use small electric wire. But this tip derive for hard line watercooling, which is most often glass.
