Simple Wild Meadow Layer Cake Quilt Tutorial

Using the Wild Meadow Layer Cake, Katrina made this quilt up as she went. Cutting the layer cake into 5" squares she pieced together the fabric to create a unique quilt block. This finished quilt measures 67 x 74".

The plum coloured sashing and border looks really nice with that layer cake. It’s easy to forget sashing can be any colour as so often it’s white/cream or black. Looking at the quilt it doesn’t look like you have twice as many 2.5”x5” pieces than 5” pieces?

Didn’t you put sashing between all the blocks as you joined them? In the tutorial you join the 2 blocks without a sashing strip but your guilt doesn’t look that way. It’s a beautiful quilt. Thank you for all you do for us!

I'm a little confused at the quilt math...you cut the layer cake into 5" squares, then you suggest cutting half that stack in half again. Shouldn't it be 1/4 of the stack?

I had the same thought Brenda - this only seems to work if the ratio is 3:1 for the squares.

Hi Brenda, Katrina did only mean 1/4 of the stack. She worded it in a way that might be confusing to some. She meant, you split your stack in half, then you half one of the stacks again and cut them in half. Hope this makes sense.
