I would never tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't live in, but for me at six-foot-four a car is very claustrophobic, especially when you put all of your belongings in with you. I kind of admire the fact that there are people who can live in these small places and find them adequate.
Bed setup and ac is all i care about. I like small spaces and minimalist lifestyle.right now im in a huge room with a queen size bed a recliner and a futon , two ceiling fans and extra space but its more toxic environment overall .id rather sleep in a prius alone than a household . which is my plan in future. Its about mental health.
I’m in a Subaru Crosstrek as a 5’4” F. It’s perfect. If weathers bad I just take a day or two off & watch videos. I do have an awning attached to roof & an awning room to add. It becomes my "living room". It all depends n where you come from. I had all that life offers. Big houses, expensive cars, etc. Sold it all & gave spouse away(free free!!). Life has never been simpler & more beautiful. I don’t even own a devils machine anymore aka a Vacuum 🎉😂
@@stanbyme7874😂 it’s amazing the crap folks will grab up just because it’s in the “free” pile 😂 i did the same. gave up the big house (which i didn’t even have the energy to keep up with anyway), gave away the toxic spouse, and have been downsizing ever since. finally moved into my new dream home in may, a converted skoolie, and headed down the alaska highway with my partner in crime, a 5yo gray tabby adopted from animal control in 2020. life is good. 💚
The very reason i sold most everything and moved in to a mini van. Talk about getting out of the rat race😂 i have not regretted one minute of my choice. My choice makes a difference.
I’m going to do this next year . I managed to save up enough that I purchased 2024 rv4 xle with cash . I’ve managed to save up about 4 years worth of living expenses over the last few years to put towards doing it as well

Such a tiny place to stay in if the weather is bad but I'm sure he has found a way to do it. I suppose he sits in his passenger seat to work, and trys to get out to stretch his legs a lot. He almost looks too tall for this setup but he is making it work. A sailboat will be nice after he has visited all the National parks. A nice guy with a plan. Thanks Bob.
Ah, this is what makes nomad life so impressive to me. The great variety of what people use to make a life of discovery and exploration. What a great setup!
He's going to try this for a while and then go to boats.......I have a feeling that boats may just be his thing and he may well become the "Bob" of Cheap Boat Living :)
A used A-Liner could be bought for 10K or less. My credit union keeps promoting toy loans with very long financing terms which makes payments tiny (like $60 per month tiny). Even in winter rain storms it would provide a table for work, a kitchen, privacy for bathroom needs, a diesel heater, a real sized bed and they are light enough that towing doesn’t murder your gas mileage. If in a few years you want to do something different then it could be sold to pay off the loan. Since he works remote a used A-Liner would be an affordable big step up in quality of life.
❤😊, what a wonderful young man. Yep, go with what you have, you really do not need that much. There are store and thrift stores most places. Thank you for interviewing him.
If you can work remotely and work like that and you enjoy to travel , great ! So many places to see and enjoy , one of my favorites is moab,UT. I would not want to fulltime in anything less than a full size van like a chevy express but if hes comfortable in a jeep then hammer down!
Two things you are just glossing over that are crucial are "how will you support yourself and Are you emotionally prepared for the fact that if someone totals your car you are out of a home "... Not everyone is able to make their living online and if you were a senior citizen How and where would you keep your medications ? I know insulin has to remain cool to keep it's effectiveness. The size of that little refrigerator just got much bigger...Emotional readiness is a must and I speak from experience because I lived in my Chevrolet Van for four years...I suffered from terrible depression mostly because I was ill suited to feeling nervous about the "KNOCK" and also the social stigma of being tied to the umbilical of internet to keep from going insane. I was abysmal at the understanding of all things Solar and Many vehicles are not set up for the electrical needs of a large rechargeable battery pack . Are you an engineer ?Are you handy with maintenance ?...You need a fall back area to stay at in a pinch or a buttload of money to take care of the things that Murphy's law will break ...To some folks that's just unsustainable...It takes a special skill set to live in your vehicle... I advise caution and real thought before you abandon "stix and bricks"...
Everyone to their own but i would find it difficult living in a car maybe a camper van big enough to stand up and move about in cook etc, But a car would be hard go after a while but good luck to the guy hope everything works out for him.
I tried climbing in and out of my SUV and it is just too high. If it were lower to the ground, it would be okay. If you HAVE to live in a vehicle, a van would be much easier.. but then crawling around on your knees is another issue.
Thanks for your great content! I'm so excited I'm getting things together, It's been so challenging through the couple months I've been trying to get my car prepared for the road with my sick fur baby. Omg I found an amazing foldable bathroom which arrives today, and an awesome solar shower! My Fur baby needs a freezer for her food and medicines, And I even found a fridge that would actually be functioning in my car! Now it's just a matter of saving my money for it to get it🥳🥳 it's the bougerv 21qt with the extra battery so it could work when my car is off! I'm so excited! Now it's just a matter of affording it, but it's out there lol 🥳 My fur baby has stage 2 lymphoma, which is a type of cancer and she is on chemo and some other meds, she also is on a fresh food meal, so both her meds and her food needs to be kept in a refrigeration system. The food is kept frozen and each packet is thawed as she eats it daily in the fridge, and her meds have to stay in the fridge... So That's why we can't go anywhere without getting one... If you have any great recommendations that work well and are reliable I would love to hear all recommendations! Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏 I appreciate it so much!
I want to see polar bears . Somebody mentioned the Tuk, to me and said that was a great spot. They also said the roads were a little rough with potholes and it was kind of remote but it sounded like a trip of a lifetime.
7:10 Does anyone notice the aircraft that pops up in the left-hand corner and the way it just stays there and then it fades out like super crazy anyone else noticed that on this particular video? It hangs there for a few seconds, and then it just blips out to the left. Just curious if anybody else noticed it.
This is exactly the setup I have with my JGC. A storage basket is attached to the tow hitch. I also have a storage rack on the roof for more storage and an awning attached to the rack which opens up on the driver's side. He's doing it very simplistically. Perfection!
7:10 to about 7:16 there is a black object in the sky that appears and disappears behind the guy in the left background. Doesn't appear to have been edited as the conversation flows. Weird.
I'm invested so that I can't go back to sticks and bricks until some of my debts are paid. I invested in my camping membership, which will be paid next year. I accumulated credit card debt for needed emergency repairs on my car. I'm invested all right. If a person has a set up, like a rig that doesn't need repair, then yeah, it won't cost much.
Alaska is great for Van life. Lots of turnouts with lots of space to park with amazing views. You should check out Bob's friend that's doing van stock next year in Palmer, Alaska. I couldn't wait and I drove up now, left Wasilla yesterday, which is the city right next to Palmer, on my way to Seward.
I was wondering if he has to worry about anyone stealing the Starlink? I don't know how all that works, but was curious. I guess since it's a Subscription maybe it's not a popular item to steal. Not to be negative after a wonderful interview.
@@NWforager I guess it really depends on the work. I'm on the computer all day and anything other than a separate keyboard, mouse and decent sized monitor with a real computer/office chair and I'll be broken in a few days. Maybe if he has a lot of zoom meetings/phone calls it's not so bad.
Not much different than sitting in an office in front of a desk. Differences: Office most often no window in front of you, another person or just a blank wall. In your car you have a view on all sides and you can take your break in nature and your lunch break on a nature trail. 🤔😊 🤔
Not now… nomads exist since the beginning of humanity on this planet. We now have more modern ways of nomading and with internet more people learn about it :)
