I have seen so many people comment about the frequency this security system operates on and that it can be scrambled! Will someone find me the device that'll do this and i'll create a video about it and we'll see if it actually works by cancelling out the SimpliSafe alarm! I'll make a video on it too! :)

I believe generation 3 of the system (which I believe this is) does not have the hack because it now has encryption between all the wireless parts, previous 2 gens did not. I am researching the system to buy and this was a real concern for me. Before if you disarmed on the keypad it sent a signal to the base stations totally unencrypted apparently and someone could replay attack it with a device. It wasn't an easy hack to do because you had to be near to the device and know where they were in the house. Anyway all signals are encrypted from gen3. Becareful putting out the yard sign or a sticker to the brand if you have gen1 or gen 2 though!
@@danieljuk the encryption doesn't matter...it has to do with the 433.92MHz (at least in the US) being low emitted signal which can be interfered either causing the base station to believe and report it as RF interference or not at all.
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
I set mine up almost 2 years ago, it's worked flawslesly. I would recommend using screws to attach your sensors, if you are attaching to wood trim. The sensors hold well on glass and metal, just not on wood.
Great video. Just one point. The motion sensors will have to be set up differently on your walls if you have pets. I was told by simplisafe support that as I have a 26kg dog and 2 4kg cats that the sensors should be placed at shoulder level on the wall and upside down so the sensors don't scan the floor area. Just be aware of this. 😃
Here is a tip about SimpliSafe Motion Sensors. it takes a few minutes after you set your alarm for the sensors to adjust to the room. If you are testing your system take that into consideration. While testing my system I set the alarm and came into the room immediately and often the motion sensors did not detect me right away. If I waited a few minutes before I entered the room, they got me every time.
Word of advise. When placing motion sensors your better off placing on a wall not facing windows. In the past IR and Lightning from storms don't go together. Facing from an outside wall may prevent false alarms.
Excellent demonstration! I have this system in my daughter's apartment and guess who lost the manual in the move? I was able to completely set up her system again and rename the devices by watching your video.
thank you so much for this! i’ve been looking for a video that shows a complete overview of the system including the siren so i’m very glad i found this video!
Added this to my current security system for insane redundancy. My house is now like the Home Alone house complete with 1000+ marbles for the floor and a bucket of paint above the door. Not to mention the video camera and "Beware of the Dog" signs. It's pretty nuts at this point. And to top it all off: I really don't have anything to steal unless they want a 20 year old weight machine and ancient TV from the age of Dinosaurs. I don't even own a laptop!
Great video! 💪🏼 I'd just say that the motion sensors are too high up, (they should be in corners, yeah, field of view is 90°), but they need to be within 4-5ft off the ground, they'll catch body heat in a 45° angle (from where it is mounted and down). And if you've dogs that'd stay inside your home when you arm the system in away mode, better install them upside down (with the test button facing the ground, so the angle would be 45 up) so your pet won't trip the alarm. Great work with the video 👌🏼👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My biggest concern was how well the sensors would work on elaborate door frames...your video put me at ease (all other videos have simple door frames where everything lines up almost too conveniently!)
It's great to hear from an honest reviewer and that you took the time to go through the full set up. My SimpliSafe is on the way but I still have some concerns about certain details and this definitely helped. Happy Birthday btw.
@@macysondheim Good question! SimpliSafe represented the best value in terms of the features we were looking for in an alarm system. We still have it three years later and no plans to change anything. Are you shopping for an alarm then?
@@danielisin2273 Happy to report that we haven't been a victim yet, but we do have a significant number of break-ins in our area, and it does give us some peace of mind.
The base station runs on battery power for up to 24 hours when disconnected, IF the thief either took those batteries out or destroyed the station it would immediately send a notice to the cops. Hoped this helped!
No, they aren't. In fact, the only reason I found them was that due to them being on USCCA (United States Conceal Carry Association) I don't think they would do that if they were sticklers for 2A. Then again, we are talking about the all nightly dollar so ... who knows. I just know it works well. They get past that noise they have to get my gun. That won't happen.
Love the review think ill be buying one of these for my property and seems to work better than my previous ADT security smart system (some sensors were not that sensitive), would of liked to of seen more of the online system functionality though in regards to adjusting the system to personalised requirements, and receiving of mobile notification. Still good review
I dumped ADT for Simply Safe more than 5 years ago! SS is less expensive, better looking, a lot less jive, and I left the many false alarms of ADT behind.
@@jamesscott1932 don’t be ridiculous, there’s no reason for anyone to waste a bunch of money on security devices. It’s a false sense of security in the end. If you are unable to defend yourself you should exercise regularly to get in better shape or get a dog
I’ve been using SimpliSafe since they first came out in 2008. Strips work amazingly well and do indeed last. Sensors, including keypad, are very lightweight.
I just purchased this system and wanted to have a visual of the process and I happened to pick the perfect one. Excellent video, I'm now ready to set it up. Thank you so much.
They have terrible customer service so I’m regretting purchasing this system only 2 hours in to having it. I was sent a faulty device and told that I need to return the defective item. When I explained that I don’t have a printer to print out a return label and asked for it to be printed out and mailed to me, I was told to go to the post office to print out the label to send it. I explained I cannot get to the post office during work hours and don’t have transportation, I was told I should take off work and get a ride to do it. The faulty device costs $20. I find it really troubling that getting the faulty device back was worth the inconvenience returning it would cause me as a customer. They need to send out a return label before imposing this on customers.
Agreed SimpliSafe system is easy to install. It's a good monitoring system but for the poor quality of their video doorbell camera from internet connectivity standpoint. I did purchase it along with the Video Doorbell Camera but the camera goes offline (no live stream) with a message 'Disconnected from the internet' every 2-3 minutes. SimpliSafe attributed it to my poor Wi-Fi network when in fact I have 5 GHz-600 MBS speed bandwidth along with six Google Nest Wi-Fi routers. When I complained to SimpliSafe, they asked me to the split the Wi-Fi network into 2.4ghz and 5ghz since SimpliSafe doorbell camera works only with 2.4ghz bandwith (this they do NOT say anywhere). I did the split and connected the SimpliSafe doorbell camera to 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network but in vain. The camera went offline as ever before. They sent me a replacement camera which too had the same 'going offline every 2-3 minutes' issue. I repeatedly called SimpliSafe and asked for a good solution. They had the cheek to say I should move my internet router (which is about 10 feet away from the doorbell camera) closer to the doorbell camera. That was the last straw that broke the camel's back and I canceled my subscription service. While the rest of the SimpliSafe system works, the doorbell camera does not since it's outdated. Today's doorbell cameras support dual bandwith (2.4ghz and 5ghz) and SimpliSafe lags behind, thanks to their outdated technology. I am currently using the SimpliSafe doorbell camera without the video recording feature from the web interface (smart app disabled due to my monthly subscription cancelation) though the the camera goes offline every 2-3 minutes but then I am not paying $27.99 for the poor quality of the camera. I can't return the equipment since I am past the product return window.
Hello mate, very helpful video thank you.. I just bought one of these then realised you got to pay 20 quid a month for use of the app and video monitoring etc, unlike the ring system which I kinda wished I bought now, but both have their pros and cons. Did you ever find out the system could be hacked or not? As I’m worried about that..
Must be said ....The Base station does not identify entry points... just random chimes...customers have complained for 3-4 years about this feature but nothing... its Simple to set up.... but they nickel and dime you on app and many features.. to get full use of equipment.
What happens if someone enters, hears the ding indicating a sensor has been tripped, and then smashes the base or tower (brain) before the delay is reached. If they see or find the tower - base before it calls in the alarm??
@@GeekyStuff You activated the motion sensor while still inside having not activated an entry sensor first. In this case you were asked to enter a PIN. If an entry sensor is tripped first would the siren/alarm go off straight away?
@@ScuuBdoo No, it would exactly the same thing as it did when I activated the motion sensor inside. You'll get the countdown. The countdown time can changed so the alarm triggers faster though.
Nice work and good job! Your process was different from the enclosed set up Manuel, but that gave me some additional information that I wouldn't have known, so thanks! 😎
can someone tell me if you can view the camera with a smartphone if you don't pay for a monitoring contract and download the app, and also can you set/unset the system with 2 different smartphones
You don't have to pay subscription for this service. But you obviously lose some quirks if you dont. I pay £19.99 a month for everything. Remote view your camera, set and disarm alarm remotely through the app and other benefits. simplisafe.co.uk/professional-alarm-monitoring
@@GeekyStuff it gives you an option of 12.99 . I might get this looks really good and effective but the only problem I have with it is when the alarm goes off the hub should be outside not inside your home . How would this possibly alert other ppl.
@@islamicreminders3090 People don't tend to come running at the sound of a house alarm, unless you live in Gotham and Batman is having a quiet night.. the idea is the internal alarm is uncomfortable to stay close by and puts any intruder off after entering
If you have pets please read the installation manual for the correct height to place the sensor. If you have a dog over 30lbs place the sensor 4ft. up from the floor with the test button side down and if you have a cat, 6 - 10 ft. up from the floor.
What about how to set this up so you can see through your iPhone both cameras and if alarm is set off by intruder. Will my phone get alert, for that matter will both my and my wife phone get an alert?. I hope those instructions are in the box, I'm setting it up tomorrow.
I just realized if you move you can just take the thing with you. Although I don't know how hard it would be to get that adhesive to release. All the better to use screws maybe.
Hope they fixed that issue, the one where if you buy a hand held radio and set it to the same frequency it uses, it disables the whole thing, while broadcasting.
Hey Geeky Stuff, loved your video. Would be great if you or others could reply to some of the great questions below. For example, does it say “back window left open” if you set the alarm. Another example, will the alarm go off and says “intrudeter detected, front door sensor”... and finally, does it have a battery feature on the dashboard to tell you how good or bad the batteries. Are. Oh and one more thing - is there an app? I used to have something called Alertme system 10 years ago which did all of this - until HIVE bought them out and destroyed them.
Yes, if a door or window is left open and you arm the alarm, the base station will warn you. When an alarm is triggered, you can see in the app which sensor was triggered. The base station does indicate when battery is low on devices, but obviously I've not had that happen yet.
Cheers for this! Great video! We’ve just bought our first house. When we eventually move in, I’ll definitely be considering the SimpliSafe system. Have you ever had to use the monitoring centre? If so, was it a seamless experience?
You should change the time before your alarm, someone could have got in, made a cuppa, watched some Netflix stole your TV and legged it by time it went off! haha! On a serious note only thing that puts me off is someone could just walk in, see your speaker and unplug it before the alarm goes off, is this where the battery would kick in and it still go off?
One point I'd like to make. I unboxed my system and now instead of a setup guide, all you get is a QR code sheet to point you to the smart phone app. I downloaded the app, setup the base station (which HAS to be within Bluetooth range when you're setting it up) and then Step 2 is SIGN UP. They don't really want to let you proceed without choosing a plan. I temporarily skipped these steps (siren only mode) and then the next step is to setup the keypad. Guess what ? "Keypad not found". Setup is anything BUT simple. I now have to go through steps to remove the batteries from the base station and do a pairing of the keypad to the base, which was supposed to have been done at the factory. Not even off the ground yet and I'm already not at all impressed. If I move the base station into another room (where my smart TV gets WiFi reception) I can't see it anymore. Should have returned this while I was still within the 2 week window.
@@U2WB Thanks, just unfortunate it's out of date now. I don't have the original system anymore as we've moved house. I might reach out to Simplisafe again. Hope you get yours sorted 👍🏻
I set a system up a few days ago, and in the envelope for the yard sign was a booklet that gave (admittedly poor) instructions for setting it up using the keypad instead of the app, and there was also the QR code sheet on the top I got fooled into signing up for the monitoring when I purchased the system, so i ended up using the app
