Raynaud's syndrome is a problem that affects the extremities of our body: usually hands and feet, in some cases also ears and nose. This phenomenon manifests itself with an obvious paleness of the affected areas, followed by a bluish discolouration of the skin and, finally, a visible redness.
Among the triggering factors for Raynaud's phenomenon are cold, emotional stress, smoking and taking certain medications. However, the primary cause is not yet well identified. In cases of secondary Raynaud's, however, the problem is a consequence of more important pathologies. In most cases, it is caused by autoimmune diseases such as scleroderma and lupus erythematosus.
