fun fact: the philippine revolution and our first Philippine constitution (the malolos constitution) all inspired by the french, in fact our national heroes like rizal and andres Bonifacio are all inspired by the french revolution and other European revolutions. viva la primera republica filipina

If you read the original French lyrics, the entire song's context has always been about kicking out the foreign invaders. Which is fitting considering this the marching song for the entire Army of the South who came from Marseilles in order to defeat the foreign Austrian and Prussian invaders in the Northwest of France (hence the title La Marseillaise)...
