I watched another video on the addi machine - never had seen one before - and then watched this. I am a crocheter, I've never knitted, but watching the former video and now this one, makes me want to get a circular knitting machine. Thank you, Margaret, for your video on comparing the Singer with he addi express! I really am glad I watched this before looking into buying.
cazprescott9 I'm not sure how much of a cool factor I have but it's sweet of you to say! :) I just wanted it to be clear WHY I didn't like the machine. It wouldn't help you much if I just complained about it. Right?
I bought an Addi machine last Christmas, and I'm so glad I saved up for that rather than getting a cheap one. The Addi is so easy to use, although it took me a year to get used to plain stitching rather than circular.
Flat panel knitting IS a challenge on these machines, Nichole! I still avoid it like the plague because it's rather tedious to me. I'd rather just knit with needles while snuggled up in my comfortable chair!
I did buy the Singer in the past and I found that problem with the yarn guide and I had my husband cut a slit in it and that helped. Also it needs a very loose yarn that feeds it as the bottom guide has to stay down , as soon as it lifts it stops the machine for moving easily. I did get it to work but I just bought the generic one you recommended... waiting for it today's delivery. Thanks for your videos.
Mrs. Olander, I can't thank you enough for that comparison. The Singer machine is an attractive offer for the price, but as you said there's a clear difference in the ease of use and quality of the resulting knit piece. You've definitely saved me a great deal of frustration. It's a little over a year after you posted the video and it's still proving insightful! Keep up the fantastic work!
Decoy I'm so glad you found it helpful! Yes... it's a regularly viewed video. Addis are so expensive and so many people want to try out circular machine knitting before making the investment. Unfortunately, the Singer just doesn't do the job.
Probably 35+ years ago I had a Barbie knitting machine that I used to make a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt in a king size. I was devastated when the machine "went walkabout". I never saw another machine of as good quality until I saw this demo with the addi. Thanks!
Today, there are none that compare with the Addi... yet. Singer DID make a copy of this smaller Addi and I show that in another video. Did you see that one? Link is in the description box.
Great video! I have the king size and love it but I wanted to try out the smaller size and see how often I'd really use it. I got this Singer and honestly with a bit of practice I've been able to make some great long scarves and such. I did clamp it to the table (mine has legs) and it helps a lot. I, too, found that thinner yarns worked best. So far I'm not inclined to upgrade just yet!
I agree... the Singer with legs is a viable machine. (There's a video where I discovered that machine and tried it out and compared it to the Addi Pro.) 👍
Hi Margaret, Thanks so much for this demo/comparison between the Singer and Addi knitting machines. I have an Addi myself and have been seeing negative comments about needles breaking frequently. The reviewers are saying they have gone out and purchased the Singer and it works well and needles don't break. So, I was contemplating whether I should try the Singer at some point. This video convinced me that the Singer machine is not even in the same league. Thanks so much for saving me the $30.00!
Wait. Wait. Wait. I have had my Addi machines for around 3 years and have never broken a single needle! I don't care what machine you're using, if the yarn is feeding so tightly that you break a needle, then you're doing something wrong! Try a different yarn (not all yarns perform well) or go easy on the tension in your left hand! Another thing... On that video, I added a card you can click and a link in the description box to the NEW Singer that the have patterned after the Addi and it's much better. Another friend found that affixing it to the table improved performance greatly, too! Keep your Addi. It's a great product but Singer DID do a better job with these improvements.
I totally forgot about this but a few Christmases ago my step grandmother got this for my cousins, they were both 8 or 9 I think. I worked in a sewing plant for a few years prior to this so it became my job to figure it out and thread it and what not. I have never hated a machine so much in my life. I thought it was just because I had no idea wtf I was doing but I'm glad to know that even someone with experience has a hard time. haha
Taylor Nash Hahaha! It's just not fair to compare it with a quality machine so I really wanted people who searched for a "taste of circular machine knitting" to realize that using a Singer wouldn't give an accurate representation. And you know that first hand!
I am a needle knitter and wish so much I could get one of the addis so I could get more preemie hats made in a year. I thank you for selling me on the addi they should employ you! I am going to put it on my wish list for next Christmas.
Sweet little tutorial. If the "Addi Express" is related to "Addi Knitting Needles", I understand Margaret's preference for "Addi". Addi is such a good product. Just watching this video makes me want to look into the "Addi Express" knitting machine. Thanks, Margaret. Elizabeth
Eliza beth It really IS a great product! If you're interested in learning more, I put together this FAQ regarding these machines: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kq3j6fC4BP8.html
LOL.. You did really good. My husband's great-grandmother taught him how to crochet and knit when he was a small boy and he fell in love with it , Now he is better at Crocheting then knitting so he wanted a knitting machine to try and he got the Singer. Used it for like 5-10 mins and the handle broke so he took it back got anew one and started with that one 10 mins later i heard a pop and the handle was spinning but the knitting stopped . took it back and is now looking for something better. he wants the king size Addi Express or the sweater maker
+kelly katcher Did you see where I referred to the newest Singer review I did? Singer revamped their machine (looks like they used the Addi as a model) and it's actually much better. We've learned if you secure it to the table you can do worsted weight just fine on it!
I did and asked my husband about it, after he watched it he said it did look better, but That he uses a number 4 more because the closes craft store is in another city, so he gets his yarn from Walmart which only has #3 in very very limited colors where as #4 has more colors.. I was wonder ( Cause I just didn't see a video of it) If you had tried the Innovations Knitting Machine?.. he liked it but said it was to much work to use #4 yarn and worked really great on #3 . He did say that if he would like to try the Addi but really wants a bed machine like the Sliver Reed lk150 or a good Brother XK 350. somebody had one he got to try out and he fell in love with them after two rows.. I know it sounds a bit out there for a 36 yo straight married man to like knitting (maybe not as bad as a 23 yo guy, the age he was went I met him..lol) in this day an age, but he loves it, and become my little boy every time he gets time to try and knit ( I think that is why he want a machine for, he loves making things, but he never has the time to do it so it take him so long to make anything ( like he was going to make me a sweater for my Birthday which is Oct. so he started in Feb. one year, well he didn't get it done till around Christmas the next year) But to see the smile in his eyes when he is done with some thing, I just wish that these machines didn't cost so much..but look at me going on and on .. yes I did see that video, but he still sees them as toys and not really meant for the work he would put on them.. thank you tho
+kelly katcher Get that man a flat bed machine!! I have one but am having problems with it and really don't want to pay to ship it off to be fixed PLUS the repair fee, etc. so there it sits. See... I don't think it's weird at all. It's like engineering... the structure, the math, the construction of the end product. It's the people who don't understand knitting that are the problem. Yes... he would LOVE a flat bed. Tell him to look at Tom Machine Knitting Guy's blog to see some of the wonderful things he's created on his machine. Impressive.
Thank you for this video. I got my daughter a Singer a couple years ago for her birthday and it stopped working shortly after she got it. We exchanged it and had the same problem again. Her birthday is coming up and I'm going to get her the Addi.
+Eric Ward Great present, Dad! Here's another idea... did you see the the link to the NEW Singer machine? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OnIw5Nd-9PM.html It's patterned after the Addi and seems to work well especially if you adhere it to the table. Erin did a Tips and Tricks video and showed how she used Command Adhesives and it improved the performance greatly. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U91llzcwoLE.html If she loves it, you could move up to the Addi King Size (for adult hats, thicker scarves) for the next present occasion! I, too, had planned on purchasing the Singer, but after watching this, I will just go ahead and save up for the Addi. I've never wanted a machine so much since I had seen the Cricut for scrapbooking. LOVE watching your Addi videos, it's such a tease. :)
Re-watching your vids. I love this one. I remember buying my addi and epoch ( pink & white) knitters. I suggest the epoch brand if you just Want to try it. You can find it on wish. But I am saving my money up again for addi pro and addi egg!!
Wow.. 10 minutes into this video and I was ready to say I'll stick with my manual circular knitting needles! LOL You have more patience than I do, that's for sure!
Watching addi work is really cool. Thanks for this video! My 6 yr old recieved a loom kit for her birthday and she is loving it, I can not show her this video or else she'll want the machine as how easy it is!
+falon jakel Be sure to watch the NEW Singer Knitting machine review! They've revamped the machine to be a very inexpensive copy of the Addi! Also, in the description box of that video is another one where Erin (Gimmeyarn418) shows how to adhere it to a table for even better performance! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OnIw5Nd-9PM.html
Loved your review - you saved me a lot of headaches! I bought a Mattel machine from a second-hand store, and between my mother and I, we wore it out in just over six months - it didn't get a rest for more than a day or so. So, I was looking on eBay for a replacement (I didn't want to get something that was going to wear out so fast again), and I saw the Singer machines. I'm so glad I saw your review - the setup of the Singers looks painful at best and I'd hate to have been so terribly disappointed if I'd have bought it, and as you say, it would have really dampened my enthusiasm for projects. Will take your advice and save up for the little Addi. Thanks!
+Jo Hyland But did you see the review on the NEW Singer machine that's patterned after the Addi?? (Link in the description box.) Much improved. AND in the description box of the New review is a link to Erin who discovered a great way to secure it to the table thus making it so much better with the #4 worsted yarns! Check 'em out!
So Margaret, I bought a Singer anyway even after seeing your video because I wasn't going to use it that much, and . . . it was broken from the get-go. I couldn't even get the handle to crank and turn the needles. I'm sending it back and saving my $$$ for the ADDI. I hope someone else heeds your advice from the beginning. Thanks for your review.
Great tutorial !I thought about getting a knitting machine with a similar dilemma as the lady you address this video for ..I have learned that end results sometimes depend on the quality of tools one uses !I do primitive rug hooking and the hooks are pricey but I found the pricey hooks really are superior and you can do twice as much in half the time . also I would like to ad even though it may be a weird thing to say...that you have beautiful flawless skin ..anyway Thanks so much I am subscribing to your channel hope we cross paths on here again.
Thanks for making this vid. I was thinking about getting the Singer to take to my Crochet & Knit meeting for any kids that may attend. Whew,I'm glad I didn't get it now. I'll just continue to take my Addi for the kids to use.
I got one for my son and found that if you take the handle off it works much better. We just use the little nubby things between the needles to spin it. I hope to get an addi sometime though.
I am so grateful I saw this video. I got the singer machine with that pretty purple and pink yarn for $5.00 at my local thrift shop. Trying to use that machine had me swearing like a trucker. I ended up blaming the quality of the yarn and bought thinner good quality yarn only to discover that it too sticks. The rubber plastic tension guide on the bottom definitely snags the yarn, and I was also frustrated by threading tube? This is not even good enough as a toy. How many future young knitters have been so disappointed to never try again? I found regular knitting to be faster than this machine :) Thanks for the valuable info. Addi here I come.
PurplePlaid Pjs I've just been told recently that Singer has released another based on the design of the Addi. I haven't seen it or tried it yet but it addresses some of these problems!
I hope to have an addi machine long before you buy one of those new singers and post the video :) Addi really should be paying youa promotion fee. I have already told 4 of my knitting friends to watch you and your Addi tutorials :)
you go girl ! Thank you for such a wonderful video. I so appreciate you taking the time to show us the real deal in the difference. Bless you. I totally understood what you were saying. thank you so much. :)
Just watching that video made me feel emense frustration and wanting to throw it at the wall lol. Your patience is a trait to be admired Margaret! 🤗🇦🇺❤❤
I bought the Singer for $20 and after struggling for 5 minutes and then watching your video, I've got GREAT results. I use Red Heart Super Saver 4. I will be buying the Addi Express, though!
i have a singer and with thick string it catches like yours. my singer machine is a different shape and i find that thin string is so much better! it works great and i can make a scarf or hat in 10 o 15 minutes. i would advise to use the string that comes with the mashine
I bought a Singer as well thinking of gifts for my nieces. What a PEESA JUNK!! I ran out of the pink and purple thin stuff and switched to regular yarn. The machine stopped functioning after about 5 rows, permanently. I chucked it into the recycle.
I knit and crochet (reg with needles and hooks) But I saw you make the Santa scarf and was really interested in your machine. But I am really glad that I saw this, (what a nightmare) Thank you I will save up and get the better 1, if I had tried this with the other I would have (killed it), and given up! Thank you again :)
I found the Singer knitting machine at a resale shop for $2. I watched your tutorial to learn how to use it. Your tutorial was very helpful. I am so glad I didn't waste $30 on it as I was tempted to do at Christmas for a gift. I am thinking the Singer is for children and not for anyone who is serious about making quality knitting pieces.
I agree, the Singer would be good for children ONLY if you're careful to give them very light yarn and encourage them to crank slowly, otherwise they'll be as frustrated and I am! $2 was a DEAL! Good job!
I bought one in wall mart like your singer knitting machine. Exactly the same and it works good on me I just don't know why you have that bad one knowing you are expert doing with your addi. Me I just have it and made 3 scarf and they look beautiful. just like the one your addi finish. Singer is good machine and works good on me I say it worth a try.
Great video again Margaret, I have often wondered how good quality the other round knitting machines are and you just answered the question for me. I have both Addi's and can not believe how noisy and hard to use the singer machines is compared to the Addi machines. I am so glad I saved up for the much much better quality Addi machines x x
Great job Margaret, I have to admit I have looked at a few of these toy type knitters myself. I am looking at a Prym right now which is less than half the price of the King sized Addi. Thank you for showing that if we are serious we should probably stear clear of the toy knitters.
i also bought a singer lets say i took it back and i used 100% cotton it seemed like that worked the best and i agree if this machine had some kind of table mounts would be alot better
My pleasure! This is a very old video but there are still some machines made with this old design so be sure to avoid them! Here's a playlist that has several other (and more current) circular knitting machine reviews in case you're interested: Addi Playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PLV9cndFtR5BVQrjZ7X1f0HRTV92kscJf2
Thank you, Margaret, for this awesome comparison. I, too, have been thinking about getting one of the cheaper ones, but not anymore. And Addi really should consider hiring you. :)
Fingerhut has the innovations knitting machine for $50. It's not quite as smooth as the addi but it's just a tiny bit smaller than the addi king size (I think it has something like 42 rows and the addi king has something like 46). It does take some getting use to though.
One big thing I noticed is the cheap machine is loud! After watching a part of the video of you making a hat on the King Size machine the noise difference was incredible. There is no way I would buy this cheap thing...Thank you for doing this video.....=)
True! There IS a newer version that Singer released a few years ago and that one is patterned after the design of the Addi and it works MUCH better. (Look in the description box of this video for a link to the other!)
I completely understand that the Singer machine is low quality, I think that the yarn was way too tight because your yarn guide was stuck up next to the machine, where I think normally it should be relaxed and down. But that may be because the machine was lying on its back. I had one of those machines and gave it away, I have an Innovations, that works ok. I have ordered both sizes of the Addi off ebay for a total of $333, so I am anxiously awaiting the mail for them to arrive. I find your video so helpful! Thank you so much
I was told that by another user so I got it out and tried again. Fingering weight yarn was best (though I didn't like the way it came out) and I think I have 2 annoying needles that keep grabbing the yarn and trying to chew it up. I really wanted to love this thing. Sounds like you got a bargain on your Addis!
I'm considering one as a gift, and THANKS to you, I won't be getting the Singer, but an Addi might be too expensive. What do you think of the $99 Prym Maxi, a French machine? Leg are long so the your hand has clearance, and handle is on top for even pressure. www.ebay.com/itm/201082047979?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
From what I understand, the Prym is very similar to the Innovations. While I don't know any Prym owners, I do know some Innovations owners that are very pleased with their machines! (A few even have both Addi and Innovations so they can compare!) There's no question that the Addi is a better machine but I think you'll be very pleased with either the Prym or the Innovations ( www.fingerhut.com/product/Innovations-Knitting-Machine/J7469.uts ) If you want a smaller one like the Singer/Addi Pro size, look for the NSI. Here's a review by Sister Margaret Mary SJW NSI knitting Machine Review
Margaret Olander THANKS so much for the prompt and very helpful reply. I don't know knitting but I'm an engineer so I love watching these machines work. And your videos have been VERY informative. And as a NYer, I must say that I love your Southern accent (I know, to Southerners, it's us Northerners that have the accent!). It adds warmth and charm to these already helpful videos. Thanks again.
I am so glad that I saw this video. I also saw Pam's. Guess what? Yep your right, I have the Singer and it is sitting in a box in the storage shed at my old house. Waiting for yard sale time. I paid the full 30 plus shipping. LOL Sucker, yeah that is me. Now I am waiting to see Pam's innovations.. but I saw one video and it looks nice but it scooted around....I am thinking that soon I want an Addy!
No... you're not a sucker! And some people seem to have better luck that others with it. I've gotten several comments since that video that theirs work well so I tried yet again and I think mine has 2 problem needles. You CANNOT use worsted weight with it, though. The thinner the better but then I don't care for the results. The Innovations is a great machine according to those that have it. I'm eager to see Pam play with hers, too!
I saw Pam's video on the innovations today and I think I may get one. I priced both the addis and the innovations and I really want and addi but just cannot afford one. so I guess I will just go for the second best. lol. Thank you so much for writing to me. you seem so nice and sweet. I have been watching Pam for a while now and just love her to pieces. again thanks. Cat
Cathy W Rager The Innovations is loved by many, I promise! Think of it like this... the Addi is the Maserati and Innovations is a solid, dependable Chevrolet! I'm sure you'll love it and since all the patterns and techniques are virtually identical, you'll be all set! And thank you for the kind words although my kids may not think I'm too nice and sweet! Ha!
I bought the cheep one on eBay fussed with it for a week an then trashed it I think it was broken it made noise when I shook it . I hope one day to have a nice machine
This is an old video but the info still holds true for this machine BUT, there are some much better copies on the market these days. Take a look at this video just in case: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rnGF0TJBnTc.html
I love your teaching and thank you for sharing I am just new in this and I believe your expertise... Maybe I was just lucky that mine work but I want to know where I can buy the good one and a much better quality. Thank you.
Amazing video! Thank you so much for the review! It was incredible! I do knit with needles and loom and I love it.. but definitely gonna try the addi! Again thanks!
Thanks for the comparison, for the $30 or sales price of course. I may look into purchasing one of these for my young nieces so we can machine knit together
Hi, l am so grateful for your video comparison of the singer vs the addi.i too was going to get the much cheaper singer to see if I like it. It truly would have been a waste of money. Thanks again. I ordered my addi 3 days ago. Norma
I'm so glad you found it helpful, Norma! I've been told I'm "not doing it right" by others so I've tried the Singer again with lighter yarn and less tension and I still don't get good results. Hope you like your Addi!
Loved your comparison review. I am a dyer (I have seen a few on here) and must admit that I am disappointed at both the poor quality of the singer and the exorbitant cost of the addi. I would appreciate a nice $50 machine that is not for children. One can have hope!
I have the singer. I purchased it at Good Will for 3.99, I think it is the most I would spend. I made a snake scarf, and a tube hat for a doll, but other than that, I would skip it and buy the Addi. The singer reminded me of the Knit Magic machine I had when I was younger, good concept, frustrating to use.
I started on handlooms. Then got the Weaver Epoch aka a D&D brand it was about $45 for that. Then got the addi king. Do not go cheap!! You're better off saving for a good machine.
Margaret I have both Addi machines. I want to make Addi beani hats but I need a bigger size than I can get by making a tube and tying off both ends and joining them together to make a hat. This method makes the hat be double in thickness (warm). I need to know how to knit panels and join them together so I can make this same kind of hat but bigger than I can get on the big Addi. Do you have a tutorial on how to do this?
No, Laura, because I don't use my machine for that purpose but I like Suzy Notting's tutorial for flat panels: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tcPVrhCngcY.html
THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEO I like what I saw on the good machine but that singer well needs more improving thank you for your choice I rather if I could here in Australia to get the Addi small one or the large one I would but its hard to find any Loom ones that I love doing but after I had seen your ADDI I LOVE TO GIVE IT A TRY NOT WITH THE SINGER WELL ILL HAVE to try and find where I can find that Addi one thank you so much Jenny from Down UnderAustralia ....Adelaide
When I got a knitting machine for Christmas one year (way back in 05 or 06), it could only handle 3-ply or under yarn. I believe that's how I broke it--I tried using worsted weight and it just stopped working one day. I liked it while I had it though. Of course, I was 11, so what did I know?
KupKate215 Hahaha! But this machine appears to be built as a child's toy so why couldn't an 11 year old be able to have success with it?! I've heard story after story just like yours! It's just not fun to be so limited in your yarn choices, is it?
I recommend getting the prym large knitting machine its for £35 since I live in the UK but its the same price anywhere else any way its only one needle smaller than the addi express king size and is still got a lot of properties of the addi .
Ghazanfar Mehmood Thanks for the Prym recommendation! The NSI (smaller machine) and the Innovations (larger) seem very similar to the Prym and are more commonly found in the US. I'm sure it's much better than the Singer!
Hi, I've been considering buying an addi and so appreciate your reviews. I have a question, you've quite adequately covered the actual usage and quality. (Which I much appreciate! To!) Could you also inform us about the care and maintenance involved?
Maintenance is minimal! I've had my Addi machines for 6-ish years now and have only opened it and oiled it once! Here's a link for more info on these circular knitting machines: sheepishlysharing.com/circular-knitting-machines-useful-links-like-the-addi-express/ Fun little gadgets!
I totally went to Walmart today and Red Heart has a machine that looks just like the Singer one....it's 20 dollars... i laughed so hard because if i hadnt seen your video i would have bought it lol
***** Glad it helped, Jenn! Search RU-vid for "Addi Express" and you'll see more people adding videos now as the popularity grows. Here are a few of the ones I've done: sheepishlysharing.com/
Hi Margaret, Im getting starting knitting and Id like to know if I have to purchase a punch card when I do buy the Singer Knitting machine? I really like knitting and I want to know what machine is the "Do it all Machine" example for sweaters, scarves, etc. I hope to hear back from you soon!! Thank You for the great videos!!
+Samantha Soeung I don't believe there's such a thing as a "do it all" machine but circular machines are not what you're looking for. You'll want a flatbed and those vary in price considerably. (Do they even still make punch card machines??) There's a site that has lots of info on knitting machines but I'll have to go look up the link.
+Samantha Soeung Here's the site I was thinking of but Google and read, read, read! There's so much to learn! I own a flat bed but as I was learning to use it, something went wrong with the carriage.
Yes, that was the new and improved version of this Singer machine. I didn't have those clamps back then but its awkward shape would make is difficult to clamp. If you already have this one, try to figure out how to stabilize it. If you are in the market for one, buy the newer version that's patterned after the Addi design.
Oh goodness! This is an ancient video! There are so many more options available now... still toys but better than this one! You may like this video: Best Cheap Knitting Machine? | REVIEWS! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rnGF0TJBnTc.html
I bought the singer machine because I want so much to make some round scarfs, and what a deception. It does not work as well as you did. I will try again with thinner yarn, but it is very frustrating. Thanks for the addi machine info. I looked, and still out of my price range. But, it is good to know there are options out there.
If you like the King Size version, the Innovations is a good machine for about $60. I know people who have both an Addi and an Innovations and while the Addi IS higher quality, the Innovations holds its own!
RIght now, I really need a job first, but I appreciated your response. When I get a job, I really would like to buy the Addi, I get frustrated very easy when does not work. Thanks anyway. :)
I bought the singer last year as a Christmas gift for my daughter. It only worked with fun fur and it dropped stitches all the time . we managed to make a couple fun fur scarves and then it broke. It was so frustrating to try to get it to run a simple tube. I threw it away. I would not recommend it to anyone. If you don't want to spend much just buy a circular loom knitter .
Ginet Duperron Thank, Ginet! Heads up, though... I've just been told recently that Singer has released another based on the design of the Addi. I haven't seen it or tried it yet but it addresses some of these problems!
Margaret, I have been watching your video for the past couple of days and now want to purchase an Addi King or scarves and hats that I donate every year. My questions is, is it wise to purchase the Addi King, with the Extended package or are they items that are not necessary? I know the yarn is not something I want but I wonder about the extra tools and books. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you so much and keep the Addi videos coming.
I’m not sure what the price difference is and whether you would actually get a value by buying all those things together. However They’re certainly not necessary and you can always buy them individually later if you so choose
Margaret Olander , when I figured it out it is only about $35.00 difference, so I think I will ordered the extended package. I have been making charity hats for over 20 years and this would be such a help. Thank you, Margaret
Margaret, really appreciate your sharing about the circular knitting machines. I want to purchase an Addi king size, but I want to use 100% cotton yarn, cannot find but a very few comments on that kind of yarn on the Addi, do you have experience with cotton yarn on the Addi?
I total agree with what is said about Walmart's singer knitting machine. It comes with very few instructions, and no matter what video instructions I have tried, it DOES NOT WORK! Other people have tried my machine and they can't get it to work either. You get maybe 3 or 4 rows and then it goes to pot!
Annie Tomsik It was very frustrating BUT I recently heard that a new version of the Singer has been released and it appears to be based on the Addi design. (I know nothing about it though.)
thankyou margaret verymuch for this perfect comparsion .. i have a question is this machine knitting (hats) only ?? and there are another knitting machine consist of three circles what the diffrece berween the two types ???
Be sure to see the NEW version of this Singer machine. (link in the description box) They patterned it off of the Addi. I've never seen a knitting machine that consists of 3 circles! Can you provide me with a link?
I know this is like a year old but a kid on another RU-vid did this machine but she didn't thread each needle just pace the thread in the middle and started turning it! Turned out okay seemed easier maybe that's what's wrong?
DeathPixie23 Who knows? Some people think it's a wonderful machine and have no problem with it no matter what they do. Maybe I'm just spoiled with my Addi (?) It's certainly worth a try!
Be sure to see the review on the NEW version of the Singer! They patterned it after the Addi machine and I like it much better! (Link in the description box)
Joy Wood Well, how you finish it depends on what you're making. Here's a link to my Addi Playlist. ru-vid.com/group/PLV9cndFtR5BVQrjZ7X1f0HRTV92kscJf2 Depending on the project, you'll see a gathered bind off, using waste yarn and how to pick up stitches to crochet or knit a bind off, a way to get square, straight edges on the ends of scarves, etc.
Some people swear by that Singer but I just don't get it. The lighter/finer the yarn, the better it does but then you get this flimsy weave. Glad you found the review helpful!
I bought a singer for my 5 yr old granddaughter for her birthday in January. Now, after seeing this video I'm wondering if I should return it. I know she would not have the patience to deal with the problems I saw on the video
Barb Niantic Just get her some light yarn to work with (DK weight or lighter) and is should be fine. Her 5 YO self won't mind that it's a loose weave and she'll have great fun knitting like grandmother!
Margaret, may I ask how you get two video recordings on one screen please? I assume it's doable via Windows Movie Maker but I haven't come across the setting yet. Many thanks xxx
Don't waste your time or money on anything but the addi! They are wonderful and by far my favorite craft machine...if I could only keep them from making there way to my daughter's house!
at first i was like i can deal with it being hard to start but when you got to the ten stitch thing that definitely made me say no to getting this anything that pops and cracks like that is definitely meant for a toy
