This song is about a soldier getting ready to go to war & he wants to know who will care for his aging parents. It's a Kazakh cultural song.

Absolutely amazing and magical performance by Dimash. Genius, already sets a new direction in music and takes it to an exorbitantly high level. All of his performances are jewels, I can't choose one favorite.

Thank you for your reaction Brooklxn. Dimash is a once in a lifetime genius of such magnitude that he just blows everyone else away! He's taken all these different singing styles and techniques and "Dimashifies" them to create something new. This performance transports one to the steeps in Kazakhstan - so beautiful. Hope you react to more of his performances - you won't be disappointed - even when you think you know what to expect.

English translation : My dearest motherland with its immense lake Shalkar. I wonder what my days will be like when I become a solder Thoughts of you arise over and over in my mind My precious land where I was born and came of age I’m not riding, but walking slowly Not even walking, but dragging myself I have been struggling for 15 days I am approaching Omsk I’m twice a dozen years old (2 mushel *) And was born in the Year of the Ox / Cow (**1889) Forced by the will of fate to travel to distant land Samal mountain, my precious motherland I have left you behind We are like a lost herd of horses gone astray I have both my father and my mother They are of advanced age What drove me to sing this sing is, The mourning and heartache of the year 1916… Samal mountain, my dearest motherland With its immense lake Shalkar, I wonder what my days will be like when I become a solder Kazakhs, like many peoples of Asia, used the eastern calendar, where every 12 years they made 1 cycle (mushel). The hero of the song was 2 mushel, that is, he has already overcome the age of 24. Year of the cow is 1889

Great reaction to Dimash singing Samaltau (Mountain of Spring Winds). Great performance by Dimash. Loved the traditional instruments as well (kobyz en sybyzgy). The man playing the 2-snared instrument (Kobyz/Qobyz) is also playing in the newest clip by Dimash. Greetings from Amsterdam.

I’m a dedicated Dear. I have listened to his music everyday for the past year and I am still finding Dimash videos I haven’t seen. I’m addicted. Do check out Dimash’s friend Terry Lin who was also in the same 2017 Singer competition. My favorites are “Writing’s on the Wall” and “Feeling Good” from that show, but he has many excellent videos. He’s a long-time professional singer from Taiwan. One of the few singers I will listen to other than Prince Dimash.

Samaltau (Самалтау) Dimash Kudaibergen Kazakh folk song In 1916, during the second year of Great War (World War I), the Russian Empire carried huge human and property losses. The burden of restocking was laid on subject nations. About 49 million hectares of fertile land were forcibly taken away during the war from Kazakhs. The owners were driven out into the barren wastes.

The song was written from the point of view of a young man , one of thousands forced into military service to fight for Russia in WW1. The song speaks to the pain of leaving his home land and being forced to walk to a place far from that home, and once there to fight in a war not of his making, for a country not his own. Samal Tau ....English translation of Kazakh lyrics...... Mountain breeze Mountain breeze, my amazing country, my endless lake, What days await me as a soldier, You keep coming into my mind from time to time, My amazing homeland, where I was born and raised I wasn’t riding, I was walking, Even slower than walking, Been strolling for 15 days I’m at the age of two cycles, the year of the cow By the will of Fate, I went farther away Mountain breeze, my amazing country, you’re left behind From the hollow field, we are the only ones I had parents, Of progressed age, Since this song was written, It’s been 16 years. Kazakh folk song In 1916, during the second year of Great War (World War I), the Russian Empire carried huge human and property losses. The burden of restocking was laid on subject nations. About 49 million hectares of fertile land were forcibly taken away during the war from Kazakhs. The owners were driven out into the barren wastes. Taxes increased form 3 to 15 times. For the needs of war, livestock and property were mass requisitioned. And finally it came to "requisition" of people. On 24th of June 1916, the Russian Tsar issued a decree that a half-million Central Asians, aged 19-43, were to be mobilised for army and labour brigades in the war effort. This decree was the spark for the Kazakh uprising, although the underlying reason was Russian colonisation and the usurpation of Kazakh lands. Song "Samal Tau" tells about this sad events for young Kazakh in this difficult time. The song is about young, about 28 year old (a little over 2 mushels = 2 dozens born in the year of the cow = 1889) recruit walking from Samal village (close to Shalkar lake in West-North Kazakhstan) to Omsk, as he was forced to register for the Russian military according to a decree predating the revolt by a few months. He was walking for 15 days and almost reached Omsk. Самал (Samal) - a gentle breeze, a mountain breeze, bearing the evening or morning cool. The word "samal" itself is associated with something pleasant, bearing enjoyment. Therefore, Kazakhs woman often have a female name Samal. тау (Tau) - mountain, hill.

Are you kidding me? This is brilliant. A masterpiece. If this doesn't show his real talent...nothing does. Hitting high notes is not the only thing that rates as talent. It's called depth and heart. Got any?
@aran-uq8ik
@aran-uq8ik 3 года назад
@@sheronkirkus3615 Did I Said anywhere this song is not brilliant? No, I know it is. And yes, this song shows some of His talents very well, but if you only listen to this song, you would never think what a great singer Dimash really is. This song has many, but not at all all. You say high notes are not the only thing which rates as talent, and thats true, but depth and heart arent either. Dimash is a unique, his specialty is his range and his Emotion, and of course his different vocals. All that is his true talent as well. And you wont see that if you only listen to one song.

Briefly, the song refers to 1916, the year in which the Kazakhs rebelled against the invasion of the social / communist Soviet Union of Kazakhstan. Young people left their families to try to expel the invaders. It didn't work and 150,000 died. That is socialism and communism, control, misery and death ...

It's my understanding that this was written around the WWI time-frame and the Russians drafted men from the Kazakhstan region by force to serve in the Tsarist armies. They were being marched slowly towards the Russian city of Omsk and the singer is worried about his elderly parents he had to leave behind. Lyrics in English: Samal tau / Breezy mountain Samal tau, wondrous my land, immense my lake, What my life is going to be as soldat? Comes to my mind over and over again My poor land, where my navel-cord cut, washed me. I am not riding, I’m trudging, Even slower, just drag myself. It’s been about fifteen days On way. I’m approaching Omsk. My age is double mushel, from year of Cow. The Fate has swept me away, far from my home, Samal tau, my motherland is left behind, We’re just a foal-herd that has lost its pastures. I have father and mother, They both would reached elderly age. I was compelled to make this song By the grievous year of sixteen. Samal tau, wondrous my land, immense my lake, What my life is going to be as soldat?
