Do we think of the voice following a straight line as you said so we never send any sound back.

i have a question: i never had a strong singing (even speaking) voice but think i have damaged my voice even further by singing even when my throat is severly inflammed, now even my regular speaking voice has become a bit raspy, could i have permanently damaged my voice? can i still build confidence/strength in my voice? please i used to love singing and now i don’t even dare :(
