Was cleaning out my uncle’s safe and found one of these in .410. I also found a double barrel break action that belongs to my dad in 20 gauge and a pump action in 20 gauge as well. I’m gonna clean them up and take em to a smith to have anything broken repaired and surprise the two of them for Christmas with their restored guns. Great video sir!
Place shells in between fingers on non-trigger hand with brass towards palm when hand closed. Push shells into barrel with thumb after expended shell ejected. Easy with practice. Been doing it for over 50 years.
@@tavspop "in between fingers " and "with brass towards palm when hand closed". thats what Gary Bray said. with my method the whole shell is in my hand. not sticking out in between my fingers. so which cant you do? see or read lol
Thank you. I recently bought a single shot and this did make me laugh. It will get the job done. Don't really need the crazy guns of today. Most people are not in xtreme combat situations. Thanks again. 😊
My first shotgun was an Iver Johnson 20 gauge, full choke. I wasn't good at fast reloading, but learning to hunt with that gun, taught me to make sure that the first shot is the one that counted. Great little gun. I bought it used for $20 and it and they threw in a bag of high-brass. That would have been 56 years ago. I still have it.
This is why I love my double barrel with a single trigger.... after a shit ton of practice I can shoot 6 rounds in 10 seconds ... not that fast I admit but getting there
When I was young at 12 years old in the year 92' my dad taught me to shoot with a 20 gauge single shot he had showed me to aim shoot and after the shot was done, hit the breaking button let it drop down and at the same time reaching in my pocket and load another and as you raise the rifle you already have the hammer bulled back so when you are looking down the sight pull the trigger. I used that method and i did out shoot some people while skeet shooting. But i am meaning this to share and help.
@@MarshRat your welcome Sir, i would like to see you do it in your next video if it you wouldn't mind doing it. I don't have the 20 gauge it was my Dad's at the time.
hammer back and hammer down in an emergency .... thanks for sharing. My wife says she likes the technic and I should always be ready 24/7. It left me speechless.
Absolutely...i have an old JC Higgins that i placed a 2 shot saddle on as well as do the mouth technique. Gives me about 7 shots before rummaging though my pockets or carrier. Not just a southern thing as for im a city boy from Boston MA. Been doing that trick since the 70s, since my first time shooting it. Yes I still have it and it still runs smooth. And like you said, Id grab that in a home defense situation over my 870 pump or benelli semi. Or even over the Mossberg that was my "home defense 12 gauge" purchase. Just because of the simplicity and the stealth of the single "click" of the hammer. Yes racking a pump makes people sh!t themselves but gives of a sound of tour location as well as gets whomever ready if they are armed as well. The JC Higgins 101.1(Savage 94) its just dang better off in that type of situation. Hopefully i would never need more than 3 shots in my home for an intruder/intruders. Great video. Flashbacks of my grand dad n uncle talking to me as a youngin.
I love Your ingenuity. I had a friend years ago, I was about 14 to 16 years old and he was about 22 he was stationed here in Pensacola in the Navy he would come out to our farm and borrow my 16 ga single shot like you'res and we would go quail hunting. I knew where they stayed in the late afternoon and I would flush the covey he could get 2 or 3 shots on the covey rise, accurate shots, he rarely missed. I'm 67 now and I will never forget the times we had shooting quail and dove in and around our corn and soybean fields. Thanks for the video it brought back some great memories.
nice video, and handy . but one of the advantages of hunting with a single shot is it forces you to focus and you shoot a lot better than you so with a repeater
This was great. Some years ago, a friend lent me his 28 guage shotgun to go dove hunting with. It was a double barrel, and later I asked my father to find me one in that caliber. He found a single shot. I forget the brand. Anyway, I've wondered ever since why I went ahead and got a single shot, but with this, it answers the problem. It's a beautiful little gun, and I've always thought it would be real handy to use, except for being a single shot. This really helps a lot.
I guess a lot of us at some point, were married to "speed loaders". The disadvantage was that you would have to take them along on that trip and find a way to keep the "loader" closed for the duration of the trip. Others (like myself) would just get rid of that "speed loader" altogether and live a happy, prosperous life.
I've had my Winchester model 37 since I was 12 years old. Used to speed load and enjoyed it very much. I am now 79 and live down here in Gantt Alabama. I live on the banks of the Conecuh River and fish and hunt till my heart's content.
I love a single or double barrel shotgun and use the insurts for a 12ga. 20ga.410ga. .45/70govt.and a 30-30 I get asked all the time what is the best shotgun for a first time users I tell them a single shot shotgun and they might whant to start out with a 410 ga. Or 20ga. Then get a12ga.
One thing I did was I took a brass clip and formed it to the rim of a shotgun rim. Looks like a stripper clip and you put a moveable tab on the bottom so the rounds don’t fall out. It’s fun to make em except making them
I don't care I like it. Good video like talking with a friend. And I will say this 12-gauge will kill anything on North American continent. Everybody in my little town has one. That's why there's no breaking and entering. You break in but you ain't walking out.
@@fireantfury2539 that's pretty cool but remember my friend. The pen is mightier then the sword! Just not the guy with the gun! That's how we say it in the 21st century LOL tell your friends
@@philipwaddles984 I mean that in a joking manner of course. I hope the day I have to use one never comes. I'm a decent tactical shooter in training but I've never put it to the test in a real emergency nor do I ever want to.
Just dont forget to tie your shoes, I know its unlikley but i wouldnt wanna meet the hard surface of a driveway or rock with a mouthfull of 12 gauges, Primer down.
I have the same model shot gun, the history is a young American boy packed up his gear about the 1920s and came to New Zealand for a job on a NZ Station (large farm) in Canterbury , South Island. He loved the farm , the area, and people and never left the Station he spent his entire life on this farm. He bought the gun with him, it will remain in my family............Barry
Loved the video so much that I've gone back and watched it a few times. I just picked up my first single shot last week. Can't wait to go try it out, now that I've seen your video. Have a great day!
just found your channel friend. good job. my friend said he used to put the extra rounds between the fingers of his forehand. I like that method myself shooting my daughters h&r 410 single shot. GOD bless us all.
You're alright brother, I'm never in that kinda hurry but, I sure do like'at shotgun, and you're correct, a single 12 is all ya really need but, now that I'm much older my old H&R single 20 suits me more. God Speed
Thats how we do it in Belize since we use only single action shotguns. Extractors help so much. We are faster than that due to nessecity and alot of practice. Hunting with dogs and using single action is interesting haha
I am from Pulaski County (Somerset), next door to you. Thanks for your response. I am 68 and like to camp on the North Fork of the Cumberland a few miles above Cumberland Falls.
Got a single shot 20 gauge my father gave me when I was say 12. Love that gun. Compact and super simple! Truly a trouble free firearm; can’t hardly break them they’re so stupid simple!! Also love how easy break action shotguns break down. Great firearms from most any manufacturer, hard design to screw up.
Wonderful! Marshrat! Don't rust yer barrel with yer slobber........LOL! I was never a shotgun fan or a pistol fan either. This 'lil' old farm boy grew with a single shot .22 bolt action rifle. I quickly learned the shooting skills necessary to make that first shot count! Rifle was a Winchester. Paid $18 for it new in 1958. AMMO WAS CHEAP and jackrabbits plentiful! Had 2 buddies, I was 13, Freddy was 12 and used his dad's Remington clip loaded bolt action .22. 7 shots in clip. Bob was older, like 15, had his daddy's Remington automatic ,22 and blew off 3 shots every time he fired. Ya wanna guess who killed the most rabbits? Like you I learned to reload quickly, I held rounds in my left hand under the forearm and could reload quickly. BUT..........Rabbits disappear at the first shot into the sagebrush. All of us worked iron sights, shots up to 100 yds or more. That first shot better count! OK couple yrs later I'm a lifetime NRA member and shooting target matches with that same Winchester .22. 50, 100 and 200 yds. iron sights. I earned my "Marksman" and "Sharpshooter" badges with that rifle. I still own it. Can still group 5 within a 50 cent bullseye at 100 yds. I have also learned the advantage of multi magazine rifles. My first lever action rifle was a Savage Model 99 250-3000. Ya the old school full throw trapdoor lever action, could group 5 from the hip one handed at 50 yds with that cocking and firing on the recoil. Barely legal for deer in my state but NOT legal for Elk or Bear. So then next lever action rifle was "OLD" Borrowed it for a hunt in '71, got my buck, Next yr my buddies dad sez U gotta buy it to use it this yr. Told him I can't afford that "Antique" He sez "sure U can" my price, $75. That Winchester was a model '55 .32 cal Winchester Special. Worth over $600 then. Now I have inherited one Winchester repeating rifle from my family, It's a model 1906 pump action .22. My granny's sister bought it new in 1906. Yep her varmint gun on the homestead. Lord knows how many coyotes and wolves she shot with that thing, I'm guessing more than a few "Table meat" deer too. Now it's mine. Tube magazine holds 17 long rifle shells. Fires fast as U can work the pump. Ya it's barrel not as long as my old single shot but I don't want to be standing downrange of anybody shooting it. I find it accurate to about 150 yds. ALL my shooting skills came from single shot rifle experience. Make the first shot count!
