In this episode we finally start to build something! We set out the extension and build up to damp proof course. Music: Marathon Musician: Sapajou URL: / marathon-free-copyrigh... iMusic: solitude Musician: Rook1e
Lovely job, good to see someone who knows how to set out properly, outside wall parallel to the house and the two sides squared back to the house, any youngsters watching should learn a lot. Always a good feeling to get out of the ground.
This is the part that takes experience and skill to get it spot on I've seen some bad ones over the years all out and unlevel fairplay you know your stuff 👍🏻
I would’ve tied in below dpc if it’s more than 225 from footing, but without bridging the damp with the tie…either way it’s not going anywhere but the wall starter can act as a profile so you can tap your pin in to the line of fire 🔥 so it keeps the ott inspectors happy and slightly easier life 🙌🏼 great video for me to watch while sat in the van 🌧️ very informative
I always like to use trench blocks as the first course around, I find them easier for setting out and if your footings are a little bit low then you can bed them up without them sinking and you don't run the risk of kicking over the internal blocks. I do realise that they are costly but they do save time.
Was there enough space to use a trench block? Foundation setting out doesn't look right as others have said, your brickwork is on it but only just. Do you put profile boards up after setting out the bwk to get correct position of foundation?
Hello Mark, there was room for about 10 trench blocks I think, so there is absolutely no point in sourcing and paying for those! Plus, and you'll just have to trust me when I say this, that despite how it may look to some, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the setting out.
@@mrabuilders6723 The US .Its 5am here . And I still haven't had my first cup of coffee for the must part. I'll fix that up immediately. You know what they say ,if your not sure how to use it don't use it at all .
Hello mate, no they're not spec'd, they are just huge concrete lintels, the biggest that I could find. It took all 3 of us to lift one in! Trust me, they are going nowhere!
no brick ties to attach the new walls to the existing house? odd. then again watching your videoes has opened my eyes to how completely different we do things here in Canada than the UK
@@mrabuilders6723 easiest to just say Toronto. started in doing rough in's(back framing), then framing. usually go between subdivisions, renovations and mcmansions. mostly just stick to the framing and move on to the next job depending on the job. i was also surprised how they do homes in florida because of the temperatures. never seen how you guys do it in the uk though. really interesting. actually first time i saw a reno in the uk was in the movie jack and sarah and it puzzled me back then. its just so different
I have a greenhouse wall to build, only 4 course eng brick (2 below ground level) but the concrete is 20mm out of level at one end, how best to level that - as in what's the thickest/thinest mortar thickness I can use to get it level? or how best to do it? concrete was layed in the same biblical rain you had on that job lol cheers for any advice
Wow no rain? LOL you were lucky that day then? ;) Been years so I was on site so please forgive my ignorance. But why was the outside skin not tied into the existing wall?
Hello Steve, hope you're well. Yes, a day with no rain! That made a change! You don't have to tie anything in at this level, from this point on you do which we'll go through in more detail as and when. Hope that helps, thank you for watching.
Good lord! Really??? That's ace!!! Let us know what you think please! We're always open to hear constructive criticism and how we can do things better! Thanks again!
@@mrabuilders6723 yes really 😁 I know absolutely nothing about building! I'm deadly with a drill so I'm clueless but I find it fascinating seeing how you went about building that extension and started watching by coming accords the wall you rebuilt. Love the vids and keep up the great work 🔥
It's not on the edge! Don't worry! That footing is 800mm wide because of all the collapses, the earth has been piled back, it's 1400mm solid concrete... believe me, it's ace!!!
How is the new wall tied in to the existing house? I didn't see a stainless starter plate or wall ties going in - what interval are your ties going in between inner and out skins?
Hello Andrew, nothing gets tied in before DPC, after that is when all the ties start to go in, we'll explain all that in that episode which will be out between Christmas and New Year hopefully.
My Fight job was a Extension in Walsall by a couple who were doctors from Sri Lanka. We all went to building merchants they chose bricks an then they went on holiday for a week to pontins which I didn’t find funny however on their return they informed me that the bricks which they picked at merchants an seen them 2course after damp never brought it up till I was joist height. Keeping in mind that the bricks was on my account I had a experienced bricklayer an two labourers as well I couldn’t take the hit however I was informed that they will keep the bricks an I pay for them or I would have to take them down an lose anyway.Lessson work an get paid in stages I later found out the family was quite large an this was how they were making equity in their houses
Just wondering, why not have 3 buckets of mortar, and 3 heads of bricks along the length, and when it gets higher, put the buckets on top of upside down buckets 🙂, this way you can have everything in reach and save yourself.
What happened to the 150mm footing either side of the brick and block work? In places that string line looks to be right on the outside edge of the footing
That footing definitely hasn’t been doublechecked bit of luck there really but a like there vids I disagree on the metre of brickwork with no ties too lol 😂
Or an basically I was referring to jus with people on about the footing .that trench cant Measure say for instance 4.8 with spread at both sides ovs I don’t know the measurements of the extension just an example that trench is definitely running off because it wouldn’t of landed on the end if dugout same at each ends measured bang on the no way correct me if I’m wrong it’s definitely running in to the house hence why external wall is running out to the end of the footing an over end is over half way the over way lol 😂
Hello Duncan, I'm so sorry that it has taken so long to get back to you and say a massive thank you for your donation. If you watch the end of our latest video that went out last night you'll see that you get a public thank you and we tell everyone that the money will go to Birmingham Children's Hospital at the end of the year. Thank you again, take care.
Hello Steve, hope you're well mate. There's no need at this level (below damp) but from this level up it all gets tied in to within an inch of its life!
@@mrabuilders6723 we did block and beam on our last job. It was slab on the drawings but I prefer it sometimes and it was a very dry summer so I reckon it's better
Morning Marty, hope you're well. It's his supervisor's job you want. What a gig that is. You know the old saying "have a job that you don't do and you'll never work a day in your life".
