Choosing the right gear ratio is the key, if you climb steep hills all the time, get a low gear ratio, if you want to achieve high speeds, then get a high gear ratio.
Today I’ll increase the gear ratio of the single speed drivetrain, by switching the chainring from 38t to 48t.
The gear ratio is 2.11. 38t chainring on the front with 18t cog on the back.
To get around on long trips, I would prefer get a higher gear ratio, so I'm changing it to the bigger chainring.
Switching from 38t to 48t will increase the gear ratio by 26%.
Remove and extend the chain so that you can put it with the 48t chainring,
The half link is not needed.
The gear ratio is now 2.66.
The chain is somehow tight, how bad is it? Let’s bring it out and see how fast I can ride with the new gear ratio.
