Apparently that's because some industry research found that players think enemies have better AI if they have the same AI but more health, because they get to do more stuff before they die.
Wait..most game enemies die fast? justified based on enemy variety like Singularity? Unless it's arguably based on difficulty? or an arpg? 🤔 Singularity had the right balance, regards being thrown waves of men it had a nice TTK for its AR with 360 ammo. seeker is peak didn't expect a Sniper Elite segment with how in-depth the game is
Another underrated game from this generation was a game called "Psy-ops" You were some super soldier who had telekinesis and mind control abilities. It was so fucking good. I can't believe it never got a sequel
That was on the previous generation. The ps2 and xbox. I loved that game. I wish they'd make it backwards compatible. The co op was two people controlling one guy! That was crazy.
Singularity is the very definition of quality AA jank. None of the cutting edge special effects bs but a solid FULLY COMPLETE game that just ran butter smooth. Absolutely no padding and a decent story from start to finish. LOVED every second of this gem.
It's funny because I'm playing this game AGAIN after over a decade and a bunch of other 2010 games just to have some fun. Games today are just too much.
**Spoiler ahead** One thing you are wrong with good ending is, You can see a past vision of after they found the E99 Demichev and Barisov are actually handshaking and close on relations, its shown in a big room right before climax also each wants the power for themselves so they need one of them out of the picture and here you are to solve that problem, You already know you become a killing machine if you kill Barisov its obvious but if you kill Demichev and go back to past to stop yourself then you will find yourself on helicopter and credit rolling on right bottom of screen will be written in Russian, plus you will see a big statue of Barisov with TMD on his hand, mission will be called off plus Devlin will call you "comrade" implying entire world is under russian command. This proves Killing both is the right way. still all endings can be questioned morally though, so it's just upto you that if you want RENKO to be main character or give it away to either one of these weasels
That's what makes the ending better and makes it likely to be the canon one. the only difference between barisov and demichev is that the former never got live his power fantasy and renko begins to understand that there's no way to undo everything he has done, the timeline is beyond recovery and between keeping the current or replace it with another one he becomes the tyrant and decides to do things his own way. Whether it will actually change something or the only difference is that the new tyrant is American we'll never know
You forgot the ending where you return to the beginning of the game in a chopper and Nathan Drake calls you TOVARISCH because it is Soviet Union all over again
Yeah the only difference is that barisov became leader instead of demichev meaning that regardless of which one dies soviet Russia takes over the world
I loved Singularity at Launch. I even Platinumed it. I made a review for Singularity, and I even managed to interview a developer who worked on it. I'd love to see Raven Software make another one.
Ahhh yes, Singularity one true masterpiece of a game and one of my fav games ever made that NOBODY played. Seriously no1 i know ever played the damn thing or ever heard of it and it's such a huge shame because it's genuinely an absolutely amazing game.
I remember seeing ads for it at the time, but I never thiighy much of it. No one talked about it and, as kid who only got into video games around 2007, I had no idea what Raven was. I just saw a call of duty like game with the Activision logo, and figured it was a cheap spin off
Singularity weapon tier list: S: ar, shotgun, seeker A: minigun, sniper, rocketlauncher B: - C: - D: granede launcher, railgun E: revolver If you count tmd as a weapon, it goes to A. Based on my opinion, I am correct. This list was revealed to me in a dream. Proof has been left as an exercise for the reader.
When I was younger, playing through this game was the first time I had to come to grips with a “good” ending not putting back everything as it was. I replayed the end several times before I could accept the outcome. It was unsettling for me that everything someone knew in their life could be gone, even after they did everything “right.”
Well now that MS owns Activision they'll probably get shut down. Good thing those Xbots were cheering on MS buying up the industry cheering on them buying Zenimax and Activison, trying to pretend somehow that massive publishers is somehow the same thing as Sony buying dev studios like Insomniac or Bungie
I remember this game as well. I even remember how they really changed a lot because I remember a demo where the main guy actually talked and even so cutscenes where we see him instead of just being entirely in first person view. It would be nice if there was a massive reboot that could lead to more sequels.
27:46 man, you really did put a scene from hardcore henry, one of my favorite movies out there, for a passing skit. You really do deserve more subscribers
I first played Singularity sometime around 2013-2015. I absolutely fell in love with the game. Just... positively became an undying and loyal fan of the game. I was privieleged to also be able to play its multiplayer when another RU-vidr did a playthrough+lore exploration of it and then got together a multiplayer lobby in 2017 (the day before the American Eclipse) and then they did a second round the next day thay I unfortunately missed due to driving to see the Eclipse. You may or may not mention this channel in your video. I'm only about 6 minutes in so we'll see. It really does sadden me that Singularity never took off. It is a beautiful game and the "good ending" when Renko "fixes' the paradox he created only to land up in an alt timeline where Barisov became ruler of the world could have led into a sequel where Renko is attempting to fix the paradox again by going back to the very first helicopter crash on the island and stopping him from reaching the point where he first got tossed back to 1955.
@@KaBar41 It all depends on if Renko figures out that the true anomaly is the TMD itself. Every time you kill yourself, you leave behind an identical corpse with a fully pimped out TMD on the arm, which someone else comes across and uses to take over the world. You’d have to destroy the TMD to properly restore history.
@Brawler_1337 The TMD is not the anomaly. Renko is. In the original timeline, Barisov is unable to complete the TMD because the USSR pulls Katorga's funding after Demichev's passing. When Renko first travels back to 1955, he saves Demichev, which allows Barisov enough time to complete the TMD. Demichev attempts to take over the lab to steal Barisov'a research. Barisov hides the TMD and is killed in the ensuing attack by Demichev. However, Renko becomes the anomaly once more when he prevents Demichev from killing Barisov. The only way for Renko to fix the paradox is to prevent himself from ever going back to 1955 in the first place. He tries to do it in 1955 in the "good" ending, but he remains the anomaly. We also have no confirmation that Endgame Renko's corpse sticks around. As Endgame Renko is present the very first time the playable Renko travels back to 1955. We seem him attempt to yell out to playable Renko not to save Demichev, however, he is crushed and killed by falling debris before he can do anything. There is no mention of the corpse of a US Marine in any of the lore after the original 1955 time flux incident, which leads me to believe that Endgame Renko's corpse disappeared as the timeline was altered. The only way for Renko to remove himself as the anomaly, is to prevent himself from ever reaching that time flux incident in the first place. Which would mean Renko needs to go back to the moment he landed on Katorga following the helo crash and either forcefully eliminate himself or convince himself to stay put on the beach, or try to find a way around the building without going through it. Either way, the TMD is not the anomaly. It is simply a side-effect of the anomaly existence. If Renko prevents himself from becoming the anomaly, then Endgame Renko and the TMD should simply cease to exist.
At one point I was going through and playing all the fps games that no one talked about or had bad reviews. I found a bunch of games that I loved. This game is one of them.
I remember seeing early screenshots of this game in old gaming magazines and waiting patiently for it to release. I loved this game so much and am bring it up any time someone talks about time travel games. Plus the seeker rifle is EASILY one of the best weapons in gaming.
Singularity is one of my favorite games of all time and a gem of an FPS. I don't say that lightly, as I've been a gamer for over 22 years and have played several hundred games in that time, including most seminal works of multiple genres. It's a pity it never got the attention it deserved, but such things happen sometimes, especially when up against mass-appeal titans. Hopefully, with time and exposure such as this video and others, it may yet be fully appreciated.
So glad I got recommended this, worth the watch. I vaguely remember hearing a friend talk about this game years ago, shame it didn't see the success it deserved
I'm guessing that was Time Shift. Interesting concept but far from a perfect game. It didn't really have any kind of story outside of a generic bad guy who you fight at the end who barely appears in the game. Funny enough both games were published by Activision, both had troubled development (The demo for time shift was very different to the final game), both games had devices that effected time and both have been mostly forgotten about outside of a few keen fps lovers. I hope one day we see both games make a comeback in some form. Hell given both games are now owned by Microsoft why not put them on game pass whilst announcing a new game?
Timeshift. It was fun, but your character was squishy af. You really had to take advantage of the time manipulation. Another great game of that Era. There were alot of great games that broke the AAA mold and were a blast. Dark Void, Fractured, Jericho...
TimeShift , Solid game and amazing g^nplay. the combat encounter and combat arenas could have been better tho, too much vast areas which really doesnt enhamce the strength of its core gameplay, still a solid game, much more complete aka "finished product" than SiNGULARiTY but less memorable
This is a game i never expected to like so much. This part at 15:18 legit scared the soul out of me when i played it because I wasn't expecting anything to be behind that wall. Ah you didn't include a crazy plot twist in the good ending.
You know, for someone who just found your channel after watching the entirety of your wolfenstein analysis, I am starting to like the fact that you look at underrated games 👀
I played and finished Singularity many times on my 360 since it's launch in 2010, because it was a Raven Software made game which for those who knows them is already a very good sign, there is not a single bad FPS game from Raven Soft, period. What made this gem pass for 80 or 99% of gamers at the time was the gaming media coverage which do not helped giving bad reviews in a time where most gamers still believe in them, but for all my friends and me which knowed Raven Soft past work very well, we all played and loved it. When I bought it on Steam in 2011 I installed and keep it in my Hard Drive (there is no need for SSD in this game) ever since.
In Dishonored 2's defence; I place the Clockwork Mansion and Stilton's Manor on equal footing. Just any mansion / interior level in a Dishonored game is fun because you have to get creative with your stealth.
I remember getting this game when it came out. Worked just fine for me. Loved the story and even the online death matches were great as well. Playing either as soldiers or the big things
I remember playing singularity as a kid and its still in my top 10. First "scary" game i ever played. If it wasn't for this i dont think i would have been able to muster up enough courage to play bioshock 2.
I remember seeing singularity in a shop when it released. I was like the cover looks cool! Years later I downloaded it on steam and had a pretty good time playing it
I literally remember being hype for this game on release...getting it from Walmart early because they put it on shelves before it was out. I left Gamestop and went to Walmart with my parents when they said the game wasn't out yet and seeing it at walmart and getting it. Loved this game. Even the MP but that died so fast.
I love this game. One of the best shooters I've ever played even with the flaws left by it's rushed development. There's actually some really cool details I found about the game a few years ago. One of the concept artists for the game has a portfolio with a few black and white drawings of a scrapped area of the game inspired by a green house. In that area there were plants that had been effected by e99 and had become strange and unnatural. Whilst it was only a few pages of scrapped area's and designs there was so much potential there. In the full game you can actually still find one of two mentions of the location on the maps near the beginning. It even has a single voice line talking about what that place would have been used for. If one good thing comes from Microsoft buying Activision I hope it's that they bring back singularity. Start small by putting it on game pass to get more attention for the IP. Then after it's got a few more fans, bring out ether a remake with all the cut content brought back or a brand new continuation.
Such an amazing game i have around 36 hours in this game and still find things that surprise me, too sad that the ip is cold :c even a remaster would be awesome
Another even earlier game that had this same "seeker" sniper rifle mechanic that no one remembers ever is Clive Barker's Jericho (2007) Playing it was a bizarre experience though. I remember it being a chore to play, that occasionally goes completely bonkers, and the lore was kind of interesting
god i am probably one of the rare people who used to play and still love both Wolfenstein 3 and Singularity. those were such an inspiration for my work.
I recently beat the game and wow, i played it on an emulator and i was impressed of how polished the combat and story was. The gameplay really feels like im playing bioshock
I played it Day 1 back in the day. I prided myself on the fact it was the first M rated game I purchased with my own money, not received as a gift. I fell in love with the gane and played around 16 times on every difficulty. The multiplayer was pretty fun too.
Awesome one, highly underrated game that deserves more recognition. Will try to get my hands on a copy and will play it myself as well ;) Bulletstorm next would be lovely 🤩
I came across this game while watching lore videos about other games. (I am very much into video game lore, even if they're games I've never played.) What a shame I never got to play this. However, I would love to see an updated remake, with more features that the devs had planned, but also in line with current technology. I think it is a perfect time to resurrect this hidden jewel.
I really enjoyed this game and happened to play it back around launch. Though, I seem to remember the ending a little different. After shooting past Nathaniel, it breaks the time loop and you end up back on the heli with Devlin. There's no EMP, the area is deemed unremarkable and you go home. Also, it's a shame the multiplayer wasn't mentioned. It was one of the first asymmetrical competitive shooters I experienced. One team were soldiers with some limited TMD powers and the other were mutants with their unique abilities (you could even play as the bomb bugs!). Sadly, I only ever got a couple matches in as, even at launch, barely anyone was playing it.
I havent forgotten this game, loved playing the jank ass multiplayer growing up because i was too much of chicken to get further into first level as the enemies were scary to young me. Loved chucking exploding barrels everyone
id gladly watch a bulletstorm video as i just played through it again very recently. and you´re right, the guided sniper bullet is awesome! wasnt there another time travel / alternate reality based game back in the days named 'Protocol'? i was searching but couldnt find it somehow 🤔
In my steam review for that game, I called it "an imperfect, hidden gem". iirc, some of my issues with it were that ° you couldn't go back to old areas and previous savespots, thereby missing out some of the materials and upgrades, ° you can only have 1 TMD Upgrade Slot throughout the game, and the 2'nd one only at the end (imo you should have 3 TMZ Slots from early on) ° game too easy, even on hardest difficulty ... plus it would have been less time consuming if you would get a certain percentage of of the materials just from killing enemies instead of running around Actually, I should check if there are mods for Singularity and eventually replay it, now that I think of it, so thank you very much for sharing this video as a reminder :D
I just noticed that IGN updated their review for this game a couple of years after it came out. In the original review the guy admitted he didn't finish the story or try the multiplayer but still scored it like a 6 out of 10 in an age where IGN would give arbitrary 10s to any AAA title that came out. It was frustrating seeing someone who gets paid to sit on their ass put such a low effort into a review that could influence potential players.
@@DarkVeghetta That's hilarious that you're trying to talk down to me for going to a website 14 years ago lol, the internet was a different place even then. I read the review and then left a comment criticizing it after I was encouraged to do so by other Singularity players who did the same, and what do you know, they changed the review.
Wasn't there the other ending that you kill Demichev and Barisov basically does the same thing as well with the intro at the start you see a statue of him wearing the TMD?
Finally someone talks about this masterpiece. I can only imagine how much better this game could've been. Day one singularity player! I remember it being just as good again when i picked it up last year. Thanks for the vidya
I miss this era of fps where every game had a really cool sort of “gimmick”. Like crysis had the suit, biosHock had plasmids, half life had the gravity gun, Timeshift had time manipulation much like this
Games like this make me believe time can fold into itself and flex and slip past and through itself. Sort of like the 3D representations of hypercubes and Klein bottles
Singularity was one of the better games i played around that time. I remember the setting being unique and gunplay being good. Always enjoyed having to fight more than one enemy type and/or factions. It felt like a mix between resistance and wolfenstein in terms of looks and enemies.
