I dig how we saw young Michael slowly turn into the monstrous shape that he became, it made the movie for me, not just a kid that "snapped," Loomis as an ass only looking to make name for himself was a nice change for the character...

Gotta say i dont mind this film. Yeah its not as good as the original but i just liked seeing a different take on the story. Some of the characters are annoying but not enough for me to hate it. Its got a great cast & once Michael gets his mask back towards the end of the movie i think its great. Its brutal with great kills & overall its not a bad version. Just not as good as it could of been. Shame. It gets extra points for Danielle Harris's part tho haha. Great review Jason.

WHAT? Someone who can look at the Zombie films as...their own thing?! Awesome review, dude. While I think Loomis has a bit more dimension than people give credit for, the writing is what suffers most here, for sure. But like you said, Zombie knows how to shoot horror like nobody's business, and I think this movie is great simply for the visual presentation alone.

I actually love Zombie’s movies including this one. I agree about how he writes these characters though, but I think it’s due to the fact that Zombie uses the same actors in most of his films. He constantly recycles them. Sid Haig was even in it as the cemetery keeper and Ronnie’s character, portrayed by William Forsyth who was Sheriff John Quincy Wydell in “Devil’s Rejects,” was also in it. All in all, I like the feel of Rob Zombie’s films, and in some of his films he gets absolutely crazy or even weird psychedelic as in “House of 1000 Corpses.” Horror movies remind me of a time when I was a child and my grandmother would either watch horror movies with me or record them from tv through the VCR. Brings me back to the time of Saturday Nightmares and USA’s Up All Night both Friday and Saturday; back when ISA was cool.

That might be true about Scout not seeing the original film, but I think the bit you’re thinking of is the fact that Malcom never saw the original, and Zombie didn’t want him to imitate the old Loomis.
@abjames3098
@abjames3098 6 лет назад
One thing Zombie did was he made both young & adult Micheal show LOVE for his sister Laurie. She was the only one spared during the massacre and Micheal's initial intention was not to kill her as a teenager... But in H2... (when the sister angle came into play, he just wanted to kill her!) No Love. Nada.

Good review, good points. It's crazy how similar Michael's new backstory in this film resembles your childhood so much. But I wanted to say telling that backstory, with such an unstable family life, takes away from the mystique of Myers. In the original, you assume he had a stable upbringing by the looks of things. I think it's crazier that he would become this unstoppable evil force for absolutely no reason as opposed to the events in Zombie's version. With Zombie's version, like you said here, his mom was shit and that whole living situation contributed to, if not, was the sole reason for his becoming a psychopath. I think this version is interesting and it's not a terrible movie in my opinion, but I don't like the backstory here because of these reasons. Great job man. I'm liking the channel!

This is a review that I have been waiting for patiently... 😚 This isn't a bad movie overall, very average if you ask me, but it is a less than stellar Halloween remake or re-imagining. It just doesn't work as a different take on Halloween.This movie had no atmosphere and did not scare me in the least. Sure, some of the killings were gross but none were scary,and where was the 1970's style horror atmosphere? I thought Rob Zombie loved 1970's style horror movie making (as do I). Halloween is 1970's horror served up on a silver platter. I guess I assumed wrongly that Rob Zombie understood what Halloween was about originally. Or, maybe, he didn't have complete creative control as claimed. Either way, what I saw was a decent horror movie but a very poor take on the original Halloween.🎃 I agree with your points Thumbs Up Jason 😎👍 and Thank You once again for sharing another part of your life with us💜

God... I thought I was sitting down for a horror movie review and got BACK STORY! How dare you!!! lol I'm sorry, that was kinda hard to resist. I'm so sorry that you went through what you did! I know It wasn't my fault or anything, but I get what its like to not have the greatest childhood or the greatest stepfather. So in a way I can relate. I mean it wasn't as bad as yours sounded, which was due to my mother getting me and my sister after of what could have turned into a very dangerous situation. My real father however was a VERY different story and actually was awful, unthinkable really. My mom was either pregnant with me and my twin that didn't make it (possibly because of him) or I was anywhere from less than one year old to four years old so I don't really remember anything. But again, I'm sorry and it really puts a whole new perspective on you being a father and that you seem to be a very good person! Weirdly, I don't think I've ever really commented on other peoples videos quite like this... must be something about you :)

Crazy weekend. . . gotta catch up on my Sinister Cinema!!! I actually not quite love but really like both RZ Halloweens. The thing I am usually on fence with when I watch this one is the white trash backstory. . . you feel HORRIBLE for him and can see how he would lash out, but part of Michael's appeal at least in the first two originals is that he is just a kid that snapped unexpectedly. I change my mind on the setup every other time I watch it :) Two things that always bugged me about the original that are remedied in this one: Laurie, Annie, and Linda being friends is actually believable and the brutality seems much more appropriate to the situation. But why kill Danny Trejo??? :( And only RZ would use "Love Hurts" as a strip club song ;) And you are, indeed, a great parent :)

I've always been a fan of the Rob zombie Halloween films (especially Halloween II). Usually, I'm a sucker for horror remakes so I was hyped up for this one. And, I liked it. I thought Rob Zombie did a good job reimagining John Carpenter's Halloween and making it in his own style. Rob Zombie is more about the all in your face intensity style more the John Carpenter's shuttle suspense in his film. I was fine with it. But hey, at least we get some tits and some decent Gore (well I didn't think it was a lot of Gore but enough to satisfy me). Like you said, the two main things a slasher needs is some tits and some Gore, so hope this satisfied you (trust me, Linda won't make you disappointed). Now, of course, this movie is definitely not without its flaws. I pretty much cared less for Michael's whole backstory. Mainly because I felt that it was a bit too long for me (I mean jeez, it's long enough to be it's own movie). I actually like the alternate ending better than the original ending. I felt that in the alternate ending, there was a little bit of humanity left in Michael where he never wanted to kill his sister Laurie. He just wanted to be a family again because the only people that Michael was close to was his mother and Laurie. And then he lets her to, only for the cops to shoot him. To me, that would have been a much better ending than the whole chase through the house and being shot in the face, which is Ok I guess. Besides that, I thought Rob zombie's Halloween was pretty cool.

Edit: HOLY shit! Sorry I typed so much haha. I love this film, it's different from the original but that's why I love it, a good remake is one that does its own thing and stands on its own, one that feels enough like the original but different enough to be indipendent, remakes like this one, Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre are great because they succeed in that, they're so different but yet still similar enough to the originals and personally I adore all 3, but then remakes like Psycho, The Omen and Nightmare on Elm Street... They just try to recreate the originals but worse, and that's pointless and stupid, I don't absolutely hate the Nightmare remake because it's a little tiny bit different but still it's not too good and has some laughable recreations that would be better just completely removed, but then Psycho is horrible, stupid and pointless, basically good or even bad remakes that do something different I can get behind and potentially love, remakes that are shot for shot I don't even bother watching.. Like what's the point? I'd rather just watch the superior originals if it's exactly the same, anyway Halloween 2007 like I said I love, the original Halloween is great because of how subtle it is and how well it builds tension, this one is great because it's just relentless, brutal violence and.. Well as much as I prefer the subtlety of horror, this kind of take on it feels more like how it realistically would be if you were being hunted by a murderer, there wouldn't be time to stop and think, just run, defend yourself and try not to die while they try to destroy you, as for the origin story in this film I don't mind it, I actually enjoy it to a degree, it's not a "Michael Myers" origin story, it's just this interpretation of Michael's origin which I can get behind, unlike things like the recent Leatherface movie that tries to say that the shitty origin story in that movie is the definitive origin story of the original movie.... No.. In that case I find it a bit harder to enjoy, but in this case it's a totally different Micheal and totally different interpretation of everything to do with the story, I quite like Loomis in this one too, not Donnald Pleasence worthy but still, I like him, Lori I find to be REALLY annoying in this film, far more annoying then Tina ever was, the impression I get from Rob Zombies Halloween movies is that Michael is the kind of the good guy, everyone else around him are just so dispicable and annoying that I really feel he's the most sane person sometimes haha, even more so in the sequel, and he's just lashing out at the horrible world he grew up in, Michael is a product of bad nurchering on these ones, where as the original is the complete opposite, everyone around him is so normal, kind and orderly but he's the crazy one who has no reason to do what he does.. He just does, he's a product of a disturbed mind, I'm Rambling haha but still you get my point? Hopefully.
@gillysummerss

I just feel like this movie gets such a bad rep that most people who havent watched the movie yet, will and have trued to critique it. This was a *RE-IMAGINING* very different from a remake. This is the legend remade, the story retold, in a new way. Its like an alternate universe. This is Rob Zombies movie, Rob Zombies Halloween. This is why the middle of the movie, (second act) is exactly like the original, and the ending is completely different.

Want to address the killing of the nurse scene. What institution would allow someone who brutally murders their family sharp, metal eating utensils? I'm sorry, but this is the reason the spork was invented, and has been around for decades. No way ANY institution would give THIS kid a metal fork to eat with. For obvious reasons, like he could KILL people with it, and other criminally insane inmates can KILL people with it. Other than the rape scene, I thought this to be the dumbest scene in the movie. I can deal with the gore, the nasty dialogue, but there were just really dumb ideas inserted that make literally no sense. And it is so easily fixable. Have the nurse set down a metal pen or nail file or something. Literally anything would have worked better than sharp eating utensils. Have a maintenance worker drop a screwdriver or something. Have the kid pull out a shank he made out of a toothbrush. Just very lazy. I don't care what kind of a writer Rob Zombie is, F. Scott Fitzgerald could not convince me that this kid would have a metal fork in this setting. The scene was shot decently, but the foundation of the scene was horseshit.

as horror fans, im POSITIVE most are like me where you want SO BADLY for something "horror" to be good that we tend to overlook things like story and acting, writing excetra. when you have to ignore 75% of the film just to call it decent for the %25, youre picking and choosing simply because its our genre. we feel obligated to support it. so obligated that we ignore what makes a good film. and Michael Myers should not have been toubled as a child. i respect your opinion, especially if it touched on your childhood. but Michaels rage is supposed to be a mystery. in the theater, i yelled "fuck that shit" when michael killed the bully with the stick and got shushed. i couldnt help it. dont get me started on part 2

The original Halloween is my favorite film of all time and this film is my most hated film of all time. Interesting dichotomy. I think Rob Zombie doesn't have a clue on how to make films. Ok, i know i am repeating myself, but the characters are just poorly written. They are either annoying, or being assholes for no reason and....oh wait....you reminded me of sth. Actually there is a character i sympathize with. One that i really want to survive....THE BAGEL 😂 😂 😂 No, seriously. I like this review, you made me want to watch the movie again and i completely agree about Danielle Harris. I had a crush on her too, when i was a kid, like probably most Halloween fans, so you have to love Rob Zombie for giving us some "nice sights" ;-)

I liked this one because of the sheer brutality that's shown by a child. He was flipping brutal and I was here for it. I didn't care for the second installment though.

pure garbage, both Rob Zombie movies don't belong in the Halloween franchise
