What’s up everybody. In today’s video, I will be installing a Sinister Diesel fuel filter conversion kit for the front fuel filter under the hood on my 2023 Ford F350 Powerstroke. The stock filters are an all enclosed plastic filter/housing that cost a little more compared to simply a filter by itself. The SD fuel filter conversion kit is all billet aluminum and allows you to change just the filter itself which costs less. The savings over time can offset the cost of this custom upgrade.

I bought the one from HSM a long time ago, they recently made a relocation kit that takes the filter under the truck, im gonna go that route, i like how you can change out all the filters in one general area.

Yeah I’ve seen them. They are nice. 👍🏼

The top filter has a really bad habit of splitting and spewing diesel on the turbo

Just had this installed on my 22 tremor. Did you have a slight whirring noise after the install? Did it at the same time as the disaster prevention kit , also from sinister.
@DieselLegiance
@DieselLegiance 21 час назад
I doubt the noise is coming from the fuel conversion kit. If there was a leak the fuel lines would blow off.

@DieselLegiance thanks. New to diesels. Was worried about my cp4 and fuel filter housing. Whole reason I did. Truck is running fine, just don't remember that noise before install. Appreciate your help

@haus734 Just run 1 oz of Hot Shot Secret diesel fuel additive every fill up and you will be fine. amzn.to/3WwEEO4

Why go from a 4 micron to a 10 micron filter ?
@DieselLegiance
@DieselLegiance 5 месяцев назад
The WIX is a bad filter and I’ve brought this up to Sinister so they actually switched to a better Baldwin filter which I believe is a 4 micron as well. The goal of the conversion kit is to give you a stronger top with metal fuel line stems instead of the factory plastic stems.

What about the other filter, seriously?

Suggest you re-examine the specs on that Wix fuel filter, and replace it, ASAP. This Wix filter is rated at 10- 15 Microns verses the 4.5 micron ford filter from you received with the truck. Ford has done extensive testing on their Fuel Filter media, balancing fuel flow verses filtering protection of (now known as defective) CP4 Bosh fuel pumps that have been used on Ford 6.7s (Diesel Fuel is used to Lube the Fuel Pump), as well as the filtering needs to protect fuel injectors. This WIX 33393 filter lets through approximately 3 times the impurities through to your 6.7s fuel system to your motor (CP4 and injectors). Normally don't comment on a video like this but you have a great brand new truck there and agree with replacing the plastic Ford filters with aftermarket metal filters/housing as a good idea. There are a number of aftermarket Vendors providing replacement Upper Fuel Filter kits that are in the market to make money and source components of kits from other vendors. Consider not just for the looks ... but also for the safety as there are a number of faulty ford Plastic filters splitting at the seams and dumping diesel on a hot motor causing a fire. I am a owner of a '17 F350 Dually 6.7 SD (that is customized) as well for many years and a member of a YT SD users group elsewhere on YT. I also replaced the upper fuel filter system on my SD with aftermarket... but ... Did my homework. I suggest you validate the thread size of your new fuel filter housing and see if it will support a Baldwin BF 46228. This Baldwin filter matches the Ford Spec for 4 Microns "Absolute" filtering, (not just Nominal which is even higher). I will let you do your own homework on Fuel Filters (Absolute verses Nominal), the impact on an such change on your SD, and decided for yourself what you want to risk... Take care.

And please use a Diesel Fuel Additive on every fuel fill that has Lubricity as an Additive to help protect your CP4 ... Hot Shot Secret Every Day is recommended. A CP4 failure is a $12K - $18k repair cost, and some dealers are not supporting this failure under Warranty as the dealer is reporting "the customer used bad fuel". Do any of us know the true quality of fuel at stations we fill at... Search RU-vid on this topic for more information. Note the number of Disaster Prevention Kit Videos

Just saw this and I already ordered this unit. Thanks for the information. I ordered the baldwin version filter. Same thread just smaller diameter and height by milliliters. Hope it works.

What upper fuel replacement did you go with?
@louie3552
@louie3552 7 месяцев назад
Found a upper filter mount from Black Market Performance (BMP) that mounts the filter on the Firewall, and gets the filter completely off the motor. Did not use BMP's "Cat" filter that came with their kit either as it is not a 2 micron filter as they advertise. Used the Baldwin BF 46228 as indicated above with BMP's firewall mount. Note that some Disaster Prevention Kits mount their disaster filter in this same firewall spot. I do not need a Disaster Prevention Kit as I replaced the Factory Ford CP4 fuel pump with the New DCS S&S fuel pump. I still use Hot Shot Secret Every Day additive every fill for the Cetane boost and and injector lubing & keeping the fuel injectors and valves clean. Archoil fuel additive is also very good, but I get Hot Shot by the Gallon which Archoil does not offer. Having the upper filter On or Off the motor is a choice, just make sure that the upper filter used is at least a 4 Micron "Absolute". I change my upper fuel filter every 5k miles with my oil changes, and drain some (5-10oz) of the lower Fuel Water Separator once a month to get any water out that may be there. Final note: There are now reports that dealers are now not warranting Ford Fuel pump failure work even if the truck has a warranty, as they are now saying that the failure was due to the "customer used bad fuel" which is not covered under warranty. A Fuel Pump Failure repair is $12K to $18K repair bill. How are customers suppose to know what the quality is of the fuel they get at stations........! The Ford (Made by Bosch) CP4 fuel pumps used in the Ford 6.7s were developed under European Diesel Fuel Standards. European Diesel Fuel is blended with more Lubricity that US Diesel, and diesel fuel is also the lubricant for the CP4 fuel pump operation. Also note the CP4 "lifter" can turn on the Fuel Pump cam (Bosch did not lock the lifter from turning like motor Roller Lifter for a Cam). This can send metal throughout the motor's fuel system (2nd design issue with the CP4). Chrysler and GM have the same issues as they went from the CP3 to the CP4 for their diesels. Be aware and stay on good fuel/ fuel filter maintenance, or your not going to be happy when the CP4 goes south. Lots of RU-vids on here about the above, and also the Cold Side Intercooler factory tubes splitting under boost. (Diesel Legiance: Did not mean to get to much into your RU-vid Page, but the group I am with is all about keeping our 6.7s running strong and safe. The Ford 6.7 SD is an awesome platform, it just has some flaws... that can be fixed. Replace your Cold Side Intercooler Tube with aftermarket. The Ford OEM ones are prone to (blow) split under boost. The "4 ply" rubber hose splits, and/or splits the plastic coupler that connects to the Intake. When they blow, you have no Turbo (therefore no power)). @@cbobcat57

Lost credibility with this video. Sinister is Dog shit. The filter you switch out is worse than stock.
@DieselLegiance
@DieselLegiance 3 месяца назад
Sorry you feel that way. However, the filter they did include (Wix) was not that good at the time but they have upgraded the filter they include to a better Baldwin filter after this video was filmed.

@@DieselLegiance ok glad to hear they fixed that. The wix brand blows my mind how guys buy them. Sinister is also not a good company. Just rebranded, Chinese import stuff painted blue. Much better builders who make their own stuff in USA. I say this as someone who had my “sinister fetish” first starting out.

@Dieseldickrick Most of what we buy any more these days is all made in China. The phone you’re probably typing on is made from China. Anymore, with our corrupt inflated Country, as long as it’s good quality, low price, and comes in at a good value, I’m more than happy to try it out.
