For me, Joy Division and The Banshees were the quintessential New Wave (now called First Wave) bands from the UK.

I guess this was from the Royal Albert Hall show they did. A lot of people might not remember what a hugely successful and unique band they were. I saw them this same year on a memorable and very hot night at Hammersmith Palais.

I think that was Robert Smith from the Cure on the guitar. I know he left the Cure for about a year and a half to be the Banshees guitarist. He said after he learned a lot from playing in that band.

You should check out Siouxsie’s side project with her former husband, Budgie (Banshee drummer), The Creatures, if you haven’t already. Songs like Right Now, Killing Time, Sad C*nt, 2nd Floor and the incredible Exterminating Angel.

She is freaking awesome.....icon. Listen to her cover of Helter Skelter. Bad ass better heavy cover. She was married to Budgie the drummer. Robert Smith of the Cure was her guitarist hetero forming the Cure.
