Sir Alfred James Munnings, was one of the finest artists of equestrian painting and a thoroughly skilled draughtsman. His work is always well-designed. Like John Sargent, Munnings had a quick unerring eye for tone values. Past president of the Royal Academy.

I considered this series a true wonder, I have discovered a number of excellent painters I wasn’t aware of. Thank you so much for!

I agree with Munnings’ views on painting. He has been much pilloried over the years, by the art establishment, who can’t seem to bear any artist holding, as they see it, ‘reactionary’ ideas. On the few occasions when I’ve encountered his paintings in public museums, they shine out like beacons of artistic sanity, in otherwise arid conditions.

One of my favorites.... and yet another wonderful vignette, snapshot into the world of fine art. Thank you. Great series!

Munnings ".....had a quick eye...." he certainly did having lost one while out and about, which makes his paintings all the more incredible!!!

Beautifully presented, illustrated, and narrated! What makes Munnings all the more amazing as an artist is that he was blind in his left eye.

That is not necessarily a disadvantage: it allows the painter to easily see the flat shapes out of which he/she will compose the painting.

I think the meaning of art can be far broader than in Munning’s view, but he was a master in every respect within his view.

I don't know if it will interest you, but I studied under Annigoni in the late 1960s, and it was Munnings who introduced Annigoni to the British moneyed class back in the late '40s, thus laying the ground for his (Annigoni's) fame.

Good story, Michael, we'll need to work on that one. We enjoy your input.

I would also like to know what’s the piece of music in the end.

It's the first movement of Josef Suk's Serenade for Strings.
