The accent is pretty much where he comes from - halfway between Manchester and Preston. The attitude is the same. He'll enjoy good humour but don't try to get one over on him or get pompous. If you do, he'll have you.

Rule 1 of Parliament. When the speaker stands up everyone else must sit down. Rule 2. When the speaker tells an MP their time is up, their time is up. Rule 3. Disobedience shown to the Speaker is disrespectful to the House and the MP can and will be removed by force if necessary - said force to be applied by the security of the house.

Had he waited a moment then there wouldve been no issue. It was the fact he was mocking the woman that the SNP members began a row. If he had politely asked her to hurry the speech along for valid reasons then there wouldve been no issue. They get paid enough money to sit on a bench for a few minutes longer.

Congratulations to Rt. Hon. Sir Lindsay Hoyle for being elected speaker today. Great footprints have been left for his feet being set into from now, as a former and already experienced deputy speaker up to now, since a long time standing in the chair while representing the position of the retreated former speaker Rt. Hon. Mr. Bercow if that one was not in the house (or for whichver reason not sitting in the chair by himself), he is surely going to be a brilliant chief speaker from now on.

I loveee this so much, Sir Lindsay Hoyle has been the representative for Chorley for many many years.
