Having found a great deal of inspiration and support from the Siren 17 Facebook Group, I thought it would be good to hear from some of its prominent members. Here is my first attempt at a Siren Owner Spotlight mini-series. Many of us have come to appreciate Allen Michaels RU-vid channel where he has documented the renovation of his 1979 Siren and many of the adventures he has embarked on with his beautiful boat. A year ago, while sailing our Siren around Florida, I got to meet Allen for a sit-down interview that I am finally happy to share. Enjoy the show and Happy 2022 sailing to all!

I am lucky to have sailed on Allen's Siren. Allen and his family are experiencing so many amazing adventures on his boat. Kudos to Allen and the video producer for creating this video, and sharing the joy of Siren ownership.

This is an excellent video. I live in Michigan. Sailed various boats on Lake Michigan and Lake Erie. I have always wanted to explore the Keys by sailboat. I have a Com-PAC Eclipse 21. Hope to trailer it there and finally make it happen. It’s wonderful what you’re doing with your son. Thank you Allen for the inspiration!

Thanks for watching and fair winds on your Siren. I highly recommend getting a storm jib if you are planning multiple day trip. The Siren being tender, It's a big convenience in heavy weather.

Hi Allen, What a nice job you did restoring your Siren. I have a '72 I've had for about 7 years now, in pretty good shape but I am working on fixing her up for more than just day sailing now that my kids are off to college and I have more time on my hands to do so. A sailing question for you: Do you rig your jib under sail without using hanks to the forestay? I see many Siren 17 pictures without the jib luff hanked to the forestay, but my jib came with hanks on it, so I figured they were being used and continue to use them. Maybe the hanks to the forestay are only needed in heavier winds?

Would you sail this boat to Maine. From Florida. Somebody wants to sell me a 76 Siren for 1400. I'm hoping other guy that wanted to buy it doesn't, so I will buy it. Thanks for all the Information

You can definitely take a Siren 17 coastal cruising to Maine. Allen Michaels has sailed his Siren 17 around Maine but regardless of the boat, the main challenge in that area is to manage tides and currents. And for any serious sailing, make sure your craft is in great shape, have proper safety gear, safety protocol and weather assessment in place.

They come up here in there but not too often in Florida. Most of them are in Canada (Ontario, Quebec) and US Mid-West, NE and Great Lakes area. Keep looking and good luck!

Yes. I have been to Cayo on a Potter 15, Sea Pearl 21, Precision 165, and the Capri 14. I found the water too rough at times and the accommodations too uncomfortable so I am in search of a small sailboat with a cabin like a Siren/Monty15, etc.@@siren17 Y
