This boat is so similar to the MacGregor Venture 17. The cabin seems higher and the Siren has wonderful storage .

Storage is a bit limited but adding a cockpit floor hatch added a lot. It's important to use a quality hatch though, you don't want water liking in to your hull...

Thanks ,bought a siren 17 two years ago .The fellow that sold me the boat told me the locking pin bolt was the bolt used for a stop for the keel in the down position.Having sailed a CL16 for 30 years always wondered why sailing into the wind in the Siren was more like a hobbie cat than a CL thanks for the video, next summer sailing on Lake Nipissing just became a whole lot easier!

Thanks Bill, The Siren 17 not being a great pointer to start with (55 to 60° off the wind in my own experience...), I can't image sailing her with the keel partially down. Plus, being a tender craft, you really want to keep that weight as far down as possible and lock in the keel to prevent broaching or worse, turtling. Happy sailing!

This seems like an annoyance in the design. You never have to leave the cockpit otherwise. Is there room for a second line attached to the lock hole in the board, and run to a cleat in the cockpit? I’ve seen this used to prevent turtling in other designs.

I never figured out how to use the locking pin. My boat capsized once for this reason. With use of my brother in law's runabout and the halyard line, we righted her and bailed the water out.

Very nice explanation and method of demonstration. Can you tell what program you are using in this video. Thanks!

Thanks Stephen. I am using Photoshop and a scree recording program (screencast) for the animation demo.

@@siren17 Thank you! That's a very neat way to demonstrate motion kinematics. I didn't know that Photoshop had the ability to add constraints.
