The three founders of Siri were together for the first time in years at the Project Voice conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee tonight and I got them, at the speaker dinner, to give us their AI predictions.
Adam Cheyer, at one time ran the biggest AI program in the world. Siri went on to be Apple’s most profitable acquisition.
Dag Kittlaus, and Tom Gruber follow.

The last speaker gives the best articulation I have heard of what we have with the current AI boom and what it’s going to be used for. Great short summary.

My first thought 1:03 in is there’s a huge difference in outcomes for the world between AI without robotics, and AI with control of robotics (Tesla FSD) (bulletproof androids that can arrest an enemy after it’s robot mosquitoes had bitten them with tranquilliser.) Acquisition without destruction or death.

Only gems right here what a spot. Closeeeee the doooooorrrr type shyt right here. I can see how he hates saying exponential, I say that too much and don’t mean to.

Tom mentioned that if we could use AI to interface with humans and understand human psychology, we would be able to solve our intrinsic species wide issues. Yeah. That’s coming

We need to be interfacing ai with more and as many things as possible (with discretion) if we want to greatly expand our knowledge, it needs to be able to think more creative and less binary by perhaps instead first interfacing with different types of computer like a modular artificial brain for example, it would seem safer than human trials as well.

The guy around the two minute mark comparing Siri and chatGPT is completely whacked on the head 😅 I don't know if that's an actual expression but I'm making it one. As if chatGPT had nowhere near the same impact on the world as Siri had. To be this delusional doesn't give me confidence in any prediction he makes. The guy is saying that he didn't think he would ever see the capabilities of chatGPT in his lifetime, granted chatGPT can feel early, but to say that wouldn't happen in his entire lifetime? that's how bad he is at making a predictions

The problem with all the AI programming and the parameters that it presupposes is that it's coming from an incoherent worldview paradigm. How about trying to figure out paradigmal coherency first, before barreling downhill.

and yes language is key. Of course English certainly will not be the ultimate UI for AI.

Put the AI into humanoid robot form and it can learn from the real world like a child. But since there would be many robots and they can share what they learn, the development will be much faster than a human child. My biggest hope is that AI will be able to solve all disease and reverse aging before I get too old.

as an educator I think it has to be inevitable that we move to virtual world for much of our education, a la Ready Player One. Any honest teacher is going to tell you that the most inefficient style of education is 1 teacher to 25 student system, not only is it inefficient, but in the US it can be downright dangerous. If we can go AI Virtual with individual metrics and private tutors and provide that to everyone in the world, I think in a generation the poverty problem will solve itself along with world peace. Here's what I think will happen by 34. -No more Hollywood. Books will be fed through AI to instantly create a virtual experience of the narrative. -Individually tailored education in which the AI addresses your strengths and weaknesses as well as your passions. -A universal language translator so that no one has to waste their live learning English, or any language, unless they want to. And there will no longer be a language wall preventing academics who are not fluent in English from participating in the global community.
