Gene passed away less than two years after this episode aired. In retrospect, it’s kind of touching and a little sad to see this. But even when he was critiquing films he disliked, he enjoyed his work
Nobody has pointed out the Disney commercial at about the 13min mark - "Disney's 34th Animated Masterpiece" ( ! ) - advertising The Hunchback of Notre Dame release on VHS. "One of the best films OF THE YEAR, now on video!" At least it has 2 thumbs up from R&E
I saw The Daytrippers when it first came to home video - that would have been VHS, I think - and expected that I’d like it given the cast, particularly Parker Posey (I love her) and Campbell Scott, wanted to like it, but surprisingly, found myself bored by it.
Jungle 2 Jungle is nowhere near as bad as they say it is but having seen the original French version Little Indian Big City which was pretty lame I can only say it’s American remake was slightly better. Tim Allen had a couple very funny moments but otherwise with a few very small exceptions it was basically a carbon copy of Little Indian and should have incorporated some fresher jokes.
They and the other day trippers haters on this thread are waaaaay off, it’s not “cute” at all, and they usually like dysfunctional family movies, and the plot is original
Must have been a bad week for Gene, he gave zero stars to Jungle 2 Jungle let alone calling it the worst film of the year, his yin and yang remark is quite humorous though, the previous show before this was when they reviewed Private Parts.
Jungle to Jungle is a boring unfunny mess. The original "un indien à paris" which they consider one of the worst movies of all time is in fact an amzing heartfelt comedy - don't watch the english doub though.
