Dude, seriously. I was shocked hearing him describe the rock knowing that 20 years later, Everyone from Lindsey Ellis to Every Frame a Painting would repeat verbatim.

I love the way Siskel and Ebert bicker. Their friendship is obvious; they are passive aggressive and take snips that you would only take from a friend.

one of the best summer movie seasons in history! The Rock is still under-rated and doesn't look like a Bay movie.

siskel is right about the rock. The movie starts loud stays loud ends loud. Vary the action. You need some slow parts to set up the action scenes.

Independence Day seemed patterned after the 1950's War of the Worlds. The scene where the people are at the dance with welcome signs reminded me of the scene in War of the Worlds where the men march toward the Martians saying "welcome". The endings of the two movies are similar in that they involve viruses. I guess I'm not spoiling anything since the movie has been out for 22 years.

Wow, I strongly disagree with Siskel and Ebert hating on "Independence Day". I think they were way too hard on it. I totally love this movie. It's one of my favorites since "RoboCop", "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", and "Back to the Future". I thought it was very exciting, entertaining, and a lot of fun. The action sequences were fully energized, the story that I also disagree, was so important, the characters were so memorable, and the special effects was fantastic. And I really liked the speeches. My favorite scene is where President Thomas J. Whitmore saying his famous speech to all the military to celebrate born on the Fourth of July. I also liked the scene where Will Smith as Capt. Steven Hiller was dragging an alien with his parachute in a desert, and he says with his funny lines, "And what the hell is that smell!?", then he kicks it three times, and he said, I could've been at a Barbaque!" That was a funny scene and it made me laugh all the time. I know that this movie is actually a complete rip-off and recycled from other alien movies like, "Star Wars", "Alien", John Carpenter's "The Thing", and "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial". But this is a film that it's really totally special, and I really enjoyed it a whole lot. And I know that people lost someone they love, but they had to sacrifice. I really think that this best sci-fi independent popcorn movie of the mid-late 1990s. Sorry, Siskel and Ebert, but this movie was incredibly awesome. Thumbs way up for me on "Independence Day". Independence Day (1996) 4/4 👍👍👍👍

I'll take Cable Guy over Nutty Prof any day. Really bizarre how Roger is trying to type-cast Jim Carrey, basically saying that he should only do things that audiences expect. Sounds like Roger is wrongly holding the movie at fault for misleading advertising. I'm glad Carrey didn't listen, since my 3 favorite Carrey movies turned out not to be comedies - The Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine and Man on the Moon.
@deckofcards87
@deckofcards87 5 лет назад
I don't love either but Cable Guy was definitely a unique performance from Carrey and directed well by Ben Stiller. Props I give to Nutty Professor is that it's way funnier than the original.

'Independence Day' is a very lousy movie made by the pathetic hack duo of Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich (whose films rival 'Battlefield Earth' in awfulness). It's shitty in a Michael Bay kind of way.

I love watching/listening to these reviews. I think the biggest disappointment is how terrible these VHS transfers are. I realize the tapes probably weren't in the best condition, but I don't think I've ever seen transfers as bad as these on RU-vid (which admittedly could've been butchered in the upload process), and I've done quite a few VHS->DVD conversions.
