My mom passed in 1996 I remember her watching it for the first time and loved it i purchased the movie for her on VHS and she would watch it over and over..😊

This movie came out 30 years ago. This was one of my boyfriend's favorite movies. We were together for 33 1/2. He passed 4 years ago from a stroke. I always loved this song and him. I miss you Otis. One of the little details of this scene that I love is the fact that the group of kids who came in the first time the choir sang together under Mary Clarence are seated right behind the Monseigneur and Reverend Mother. The first souls the choir brought to God given a prime seat for the choir's biggest moment.
I have watched this movie many times and while I have seen them there it didn’t dawn on me until I watched this clip that I saw the same thing. The first 4 people who responded to that wonderful choir were able to sit right up in the front. Actually makes me tear up thinking of that

It’s been 30 years since this first was screened. Many still love this film. It has that feel good feeling, that so many films that come out of Hollywood now only do the opposite. In a world that is still reeling from covid, war and people who just want division in their country we need uplifting not made to feel there is no hope.

I love this version of this song for so many reasons. From a movie standpoint, it was a true turning point for the church. These ladies were finally heard. From a spiritual standpoint, it is a reminder of why I follow HIM today and everyday I live. HE is the reason I wake up every morning and I will be forever grateful for everyday. I am truly blessed with a wonderful family and friends. Thank you Lord for everything!!

I remember going to the cinema to watch it with my mum when it first came out. We didn't even really think about the concept of a clever, talented black woman schooling a bunch of mainly older white women, when it was just a great film that we both loved, but imagine the fuss if it came out today, with all the drama of identity politics and race. A pity that Whoopee Goldberg had to get involved in all that divisive nastiness.
