10 short years of great music. I miss the 70's compared to the junk being put out today.

Looking back, it's amazing how we just took it for granted that there would be another masterpiece along in in a minute or two - from Supertramp or Steely Dan or Genesis or Stevie Wonder or Pink Floyd or Paul Simon or whomever. Somehow we assumed that this was just the natural order of things and it would always be this way instead of realising that we were immersed in what must have been the most creative decade in the history of popular music. It was a peak, but it followed from the creative explosion of the sixties which was initiated by The Beatles and continued by Dylan, The Kinks, Brian Wilson, The Stones, Aretha, The Who, Procul Harum, Jimi, Clapton, etc. In turn, the Fifties had given us rock & roll, (Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis, Jerry Lee, etc.), at the same time as Sinatra was making the best music of his career, Ella, Satchmo, Count Basie and Duke Ellington were still peaking and pioneers like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis et al were creating a brand new type of jazz. It seemed like the only way was up. It would always get better and better and better. What the hell happened?

@@gerrycoogan6544 Well said. Tears. Don't forget Leslie West, Ginger Baker, Billy Gibbons, and all the other guys that defined the 70's.

Oh, when I was a small boy Well, I could see the magic in a day Oh, but now I'm just a poor boy; Well maybe it's the price you have to pay If you lock your dreams away If no-one wants to listen What's the story? I wish I'd been a minstrel Just think of all the maidens I'd recall Oh, I wish I'd been a gypsy Then maybe I could read the crystal ball 'Cause surrounded by these walls Just makes me feel uneasy I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine Won't you send me a little sun? I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine I'm a stranger to ev'ryone So make us all laugh, make us all cry Make us all give, make us all try Give us the secret show us the lie We'll strike up the music and light up the sky Oh, if I was a lion Well I could be the king of all the plain Oh, and if I was an eagle Well maybe I could fly above the rain Fly above the pain But I know I'm only fooling I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine Won't you send me a little sun? I said: Hey, Sister Moonshine I'm a stranger to ev'ryone Make us all laugh, make us all cry Make us all give, make us all try Give us the secret show us the light We'll strike up the music and light up the sky I said: Hey Sister Moonshine I said: Hey Sister Moonshine (repeat and fade)

It's mostly Roger Hodgeson's songs. After a 10 year absence after the Band broke up he came back touring as a Solo artist. Fans just love this guy. He's smiling all the time. Great performer!

Now, aside from the music itself, let’s compare the lyrics of this song (and other Supertramp’ songs) to the pseudo-lyrics of today’s hip hop or rap songs😂😂

A very good, even an excellent song of Supertramp. Another classic of this British progressive rock band. Very underrated. I enjoy this track from Crisis? What Crisis?. Beautiful lyrics. Very poetic. Excellent flute. Supertramp have always produced good songs, even excellent songs in all their albums. A legendary British rock band.
