@@tikabass Yes, but I do not think she was at her peak at a young age. She is said to have accompanied her mother on their performances, but certainly got even better with increasing age and routine. In any case, a fantastic singer and guitarist for me and probably more completely unknown here in Sweden in any case. @@seriksson9721 Rosetta was gathering crowds playing guitar and siging the gospel at age 4. And touring/headlining with her mother at age 6, billed as a ‘singing and guitar playing miracle’. She was 8 years old when Chuck Berry was born.

This woman was waaay ahead of her time. Self taught, humble & music was her life. Read a book about her called SHOUT, SISTER, SHOUT!!! What an amazing life.
She was a gospel artist. She didn't help invent rock and roll, which was a sacrilegious joke that consisted of performing black jump blues as if it were black gospel, meaning sex and partying are _our_ religion. The big beat, e.g., was added to the jump blues to make the joke clear because a big beat had previously been associated with gospel. "Butcher Pete" by Roy Brown 1949 is an example of rock and roll and he was one of the inventors of rock and roll.
Absolutely sublime! I love gospel and blues. She is the epitome of what those genre are all about. She strikes to the very essence of soul and then beyond.
This woman was the best man what a talent. This is all her no computer crap pure talent. She was the first inspiration to Elvis. He use to go and see her in Local concerts when he was young and he sat in the back just taking it all in. Thank you Rosetta.

She’s been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame I’m watching it right now she’s being honored along with Bon Jovi,The Cars ,Dire Straits I didn’t even know about her I’m so sad she has such an Awesome Voice and playing the guitar WOW
Sister Rosetta Tharpe , Marie Knight , Roxie Moore ...... had such great gifts of singing , guitar + piano playing , composing songs and bringing these gifts to the world .... they have no equals in ( this) world ... they live on today in spirit and with their songs .....
She's really incredible, this truly great big woman. Towering over everyone else. We should bow, kneel and worship her. I praise the day I discovered her.

If it wasn't for her, there would be no rock and roll, no Elvis, no Carl Perkins, not MOTOWN, no Beatles no ROlling Stones.........she just didn't travel down and up the MS RIver, she travelled extensively in Britain and influced the later "British Invasion" ......she IS a LEGEND few folks have heard of.... This is the FIRST recording I have ever seen of her that was recorded in LIVING COLOR!

Thanks I had the good fortune of seeing and jamming with Big Walter (Harp) in the 70s at Blues on Halsted in Chicago It's great to see him with the great Rosetta Tharpe

Ridiculous that she's not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame - shoulda been one of the very first legends in there ! On a side note, I saw Willie Dixon in Vancouver BC with the Chicago All-stars in about 1975, I was only 18 & snuck into the club under age. Even though I drank many beers, I never will forget that thrilling night !
