It really baffles me how much murder has plagued this earth

It's so outrageous someone who committed such an awful crime could be pardoned! It doesn't even make sense.

Sometimes the evil perpetrated in these stories leaves me at a loss for words, so much so I can’t comment. I’m always that Ron looks for these little known stories so that these dear people aren’t forgotten to time.

Ron, some people have dead consciences and feel no remorse for their evil deeds. Case in point in the 1980's was asked to write a screenplay that we all hoped to be developed in a movie based on a hitwoman I had interviewed. Ron this lady casually cited all the murders she had committed over the decades. This woman casually and calmly rattled over killing after killing. To be honest with you I was more than a bit scared of this woman. I did my level best NOT TO PISS HER OFF for the very real fear of angering her.

I was looking at memorial in back of you at start of video. Alexis Voorhies. This lady needs a whole story about herself. From what I researched, she had 20 children and many died in childhood. Her story seems very sad. Love what you do and would love to help or do same thing. So many stories to be told.

New Orleans is so unique. Amazing cemeteries. And this story is so sad! Thank you for bringing it to us. Almost 100 years ago, these terrible stories still happen today.

A depressing story. Only a culture that does not value females, could 'punish' a man for the machete murder and dismemberment of two women so utterly feebly. That the killer, Theresa's husband Henry Moity, ultimately got a pardon, freedom, and the chance to kill another woman (who only survived by a miracle), confirms sisters Theresa and Leonide (Lonie) Moity were in reality blamed for their own vicious murders at this violent man's hands. In 1927, women were regarded as the property of men - their father, and then their husband. If a married woman stepped out of line and God forbid, cheated on her husband and/or left him, the prevailing attitude was she was a harlot who deserved everything she got (husbands could have any number of mistresses, and not face the same moral judgement). The domestic context of this case is worth including. The motive - the victim's intention to leave the killer - was typical of domestic murders then, and has been repeated endlessly in domestic homicides of women by their partners, to the present day. It's an old story, but as anyone who follows the news knows, it's the same old story in 2023. Sisters Theresa, 25, and Lonie, 28, were married to the Moity brothers Henry 29, and Joseph, 33. They worked as odd-job men described as 'shiftless' with a love of alcohol, they were frequently out of work and failed to provide sufficient funds to support their families. Theresa and Lonie took on sewing jobs to bring in desperately needed cash to raise their five small children - three from Theresa and Henry's marriage, two from Lonie and Joseph's. The sisters commiserated with each other over their unhappy marriages, and dreamed of better lives. This large family group of four adults and five children shared a cramped, second floor apartment in the new Orleans French Quarter. Neighbours heard drunken fights over money and infidelities, and at the time of the murders, both marriages were effectively over. A few weeks before the women were hacked to death by Theresa's husband Henry, Lonie's husband Joseph had left her and taken their two children with him, moving in with his parents 130 miles away. He claimed he came home and found her with another man. This left his brother Henry, Henry's wife Theresa and their three children, and Lonie, living together at the marital home. It was a ticking time bomb. Henry was enraged over his wife Theresa's rumoured affair with Joseph Caruso, their well-to-do, married landlord and owner of a store on the second floor of the apartment building. He also regarded his newly-separated and single sister-in-law Lonie as a bad influence on his wife. His jealousy was reaching boiling point. The women clearly did not realise what a deadly risk he posed to them, or the danger they were in sharing the same home. It's unclear if Theresa had actually told her husband of her intention to leave him. One account claims she and Lonie informed him they were moving away, mocked him, and were attacked and killed as they were packing the two trunks their remains were found in. But that was undoubtedly a lurid journalistic embellishment, with more than a hint of victim-blaming. The motive may have been that Henry heard rumours Theresa was planning to run off with Caruso - or had just feared her rejection. Whatever his knowledge, it's clear he knew his marriage was over, and the motive was the age-old 'If I can't have you, no one will'. He first considered murdering the children and killing himself, but then he imagined Theresa being happy with another man, and decided she and Lonie must die. The evidence suggests he stabbed both women to death as they slept. He killed his wife first, hacking the wedding ring from her hand (hence her severed fingers were found on the bed), and inserting it into a deep slash in her back. A clear clue to the identity of her killer! Then he went to Lonie's room and repeated the merciless machete attack as she too lay defenceless in bed. It's as brutal and cowardly a crime as you'll find. But incredibly despite receiving a life sentence, Henry served only 20 years - and was released in 1958, just two years after his audacious prison escape! It seems he was eligible for a pardon on the grounds he was intoxicated when he murdered and dismembered two women. Yes, you read that right - saying you were drunk at the time, was a 'get out of jail free' card for a machete murderer! Anyone with even a passing interest in true crime, won't be surprised to learn this 'model prisoner' remained a danger to women after serving his sentence. Eight years after his release in 1956, he shot his girlfriend Alberta Orange in the chest in an LA hotel room. Miraculously she survived, with a punctured lung. Even with his known history as the convicted killer in an infamous double homicide, Henry was jailed for just 5 years for attempted murder. Unbelievable! Thankfully he suffered a fatal stroke in 1957, while serving his sentence. Henry Moity died aged 59 - if he had not, he'd have been out on the streets again as a free man in no time. Who knows how many more women he would have attacked and killed? The murders of sisters Theresa and Lonie happened in 1927, not even 100 years ago. Between them, those young women brought five children into the world, who were all left motherless by this appalling crime (three of them were present at the crime scene, and likely witnessed the unfolding horror). I wonder what their lives were like, after their mothers were murdered and dismembered by their depraved father/Uncle? The emotional and psychological damage they suffered must have been considerable. What kind of parents and partners did they become, as a result? Theresa and Lonie have many descendants alive today. Those acts of violence ended their lives, and inevitably ruined many more. Murder always creates multiple victims. You can be sure the repercussions of Henry Moity's crimes reverberated through the generations, and blighted the lives of his victims' loved ones, and all their descendants still to come, in countless different ways, most of which can't be quantified. How do you measure the long-term after-effects of such monstrous cruelty? In the 1920s, domestic violence was accepted in civilised society, as a fact of life. Women were blamed for their own murders and beatings by possessive, controlling men, their violence excused with the defence of provocation or intoxication, as we saw in this case (Henry was even excused for killing his sister-in-law, who having escaped his - no doubt also abusive - brother Joseph, was judged 'a bad influence' on his wife). Everything is the woman's fault - even her own murder. And if you think things are much better today for women, you're sadly mistaken. I researched this story on Google by typing three words, 'sisters murdered machete' in the search box. I did not find it immediately, as umpteen other cases came up of women who died similarly bloody deaths at the hands of men who claimed to love them. The late Lonie was right when she wrote her cautionary tale, warning other women about the dangers of marriage. She did not know how right she was - loving the wrong man cost her and her sister their lives, and tragically has continued to for far too many women, to the present day. Thank you for sharing this tragic story Ron. Theresa and Lonie, and all victims of domestic murder, should not be forgotten. They were human beings and deserve dignity, not just to be sensationalised as body parts in a bloody true crime story. They live on, through their descendants.

And what a story it is! Creepy and unbelievable that Moity was released so early from Louisiana prison. I’m gonna have to go back and re-watch this one asap. Many thanks to Ron the Renaissance Man for his hours upon hours of free labor!

Ron, there’s another story out of New Orleans that happened back some years ago after hurricane Katrina. It involved Zachary Bowen, an Iraq war veteran and his girlfriend Addie Hall who was murdered by Bowen. She was also dismembered and put into cooking pots. Horrible & sad story. This one ☝🏻was so sad to hear too. RIP 😔🙏🏻💐

For someone to kill the way he did there would have to be something mentally wrong with him. So it surprises me how they could trust someone as evil as he was, and then to try to murder another lady. Unbelievable, good story though Ron.

What an interesting but gruesome story. Looked on Find A Grave and Theresa is listed but Leonide is not. She isn't even listed under Theresa's siblings. It shows Theresa had 2 brothers and 2 sisters but none of them were Leonide. Strange. Another strange thing is it shows Theresa has a daughter born in 1932. I'm assuming that's an error.

The court system has changed much !! The murderer always seems to get the easy path !!

I guess he was a little jealous...a divorce wouldn't suffice so he had to cut them up. My God, with no remorse whatsoever. Who took care of those kids after all that? Thanks for yet another intresting story. So sad, the way they were butchered. He ended there lives so mercilessly. And they went along to pardoning him after what he did to those poor ladies. He killed them but now his also six feet under. RIP ladies.

New Orleans was my old stomping ground as a teen and young woman growing up in Southern Louisiana, and I enjoyed it immensely. Always thought it was a beautiful, special city which my great x 5 grandparents fled to from Haiti during the uprising. I grew up listening to stories about my paternal grandmothers family, they raised and raced horses at the old racetrack, with my uncle Alvy as one of their jockey's So many memories on both sides of the family, strong roots in Louisiana.

I've never heard of this, very intriguing and ultimately tragic story. I was particularly interested in the fact of the article written that was rejected by the women's magazine. A kind of strange prophecy. These two sisters deserve to be remembered and I'm so glad you told their story Ron. Absolutely infuriating that creep got out and away, geez!!!!

So what happened to the children, growing up without their parents ?

Wow! That was an ugly story. How sad for the entire family and the children left behind. The one sister who wrote that story makes me think she had reason to believe that Henry was certainly capable of this. He certainly did get off easy for the murder of 2 people and attempted murder of a third woman.

There have been so many really strange and just plain weird stories that would keep a person up at night,in south Louisiana. I guess the last one, would be the Zak and Addie murder/suicide
