He loves his job, he said he would do it as a hobby if it wasn’t his profession. Skip is on tv to debate, he took on a villain m-like character role at ESPN that stuck but I’m sure skip enjoys his life also
@@traytonerickson-paul4042 Skip just opened up how proud he is of Rick and he loves him. And he regrets lefting Rick, his sister and his mother in difficulty situation as the big brother. And not being much of a big brother to them. I learnt from Today's segment from Skips podcast is that they will finally get along together in the near future.
yeah they are very different, other than the love for their mom, those two have nothing in common. Even the dad (who rick cites as a big influence), skip always takes a chance to take shots at him for being evil and abusive whenever he can.
@@hd-xc2lz i think ur thinking about the dad. Cause rick loves the dad and says hes the man responsible for his successful career as a chef while skip calls him a serial child abuser. But i think the mom they both like equally.
Today just found out these two are brothers, after watching a podcast from Skip about their family. Kind of stunning, really. They seem so different in personality, though obviously both quite driven. I like sports and cooking, and have been a much bigger fan of Rick over the years. Hopefully they can build more of a relationship.
🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️ Add 1 more. Found out today too. It's crazy because I never saw anything mention it before. I used to watch Rick on tv years ago. It's almost a crime though, they don't really talk to each other. Rick I believe has couple kids and Skip none but neither said, they fought or disagreed on stuff. They're just opposite professionals.
@@mvjr7758 as someone who has a brother who I never speak to (he lives in the same town as myself as well) it's not as sad as it seems on the outside. There is no animosity between him or myself.. we just.. have nothing in common, at all. My sisters and I have great relationships.. but none of us have one with him.. and. it doesn't matter. bc, exactly like Skip said, it's how it ALWAYS was. Being blood related doesn't make you family.. my cousins were always more like brothers to me than my oldest brother ever was.. and to this day, we are all still very close.. that's just life sometimes.
Even though they don't talk to each other, from the way they're able to discuss the others achievements so offhandedly it's clear they keep up with what the other is doing from a distance, either through articles or conversations with other people. I hope they find each other and they're able to form a relationship.
@@mogulmade I just saw Skip’s video today and found it heartbreaking. I also thought it was a bit of a love letter to his brother. Not being close to a sibling is worse than 2 strangers striking up a conversation. You have all this baggage that your share, yet probably experienced completely differently. I do hope that they find a way to connect but if they don’t, it’s ok because they are both amazing and they are, in their own way, very proud of each other.
The Bayless Brothers look a lot alike. Both very successful in their respective careers. It's a shame they don't have a relationship. It's never too late though. It takes a lot of courage to make the first move.
amen to that statement! I have cousins that I haven't talked to due to a past altercation that bothered me when we speaking with them at the table during the easter holiday.
Skip dislikes his Dad and still has not forgiven him for the harsh way that he treated him, and even cites that as the reason why he decided not to have children for fear that he would be abusive to them too. Skip being mistreated by his Dad is probably the reason why Skip has no absolutely no interest in the culinary business and says that he can't cook. It seems as though he made an conscious effort to dissociate himself from his father as much as possible. Rick on the otherhand had a much better relationship with Daddy and became the heir of the family's restaurant business. Skip and Rick are very different. It is stunning how Skip has no interest in the culinary business, while Rick has no interest in sports. It shows that they must not have been close as brothers. Usually, younger siblings, especially those of the same gender take significant interest and are influenced by what their older siblings are interested in. Especially if the age gap is not too large, let's say 5 years or less. Skip is only two years older than Rick. It is probable that Skip, being the eldest child, took the brunt of his father's abuse or discipline, while Daddy was much kinder to Rick. Even though it is does not necessarily delve into being abusive, it is common for the eldest child, especially the eldest male child or the only male child, to be subjected to greater discipline by fathers and even mothers than younger siblings are.
Bro how did you make this comment 2 weeks ago on a 4 year old video about something that skip would talk about today on his channel?? That's crazy, did u time travel?
As the oldest sibling I will tell our job is much harder lol, unless somehow the eldest is like the perfect person who does everything well by pure talent and nature, then in this case the younger siblings are fucked lol
I cannot believe that I’ve been familiar with and even been a fan of both Rick and Skip Bayless for YEARS and it wasn’t until a couple weeks ago that I realized they were brothers. I enjoy cooking, I especially love cooking (and eating) Mexican cuisine, that’s how I was introduced to Rick, and every morning I used to watch First Take on ESPN with Skip and Stephen A, and now I watch Undisputed with Skip and Shannon. I can’t believe I was too dumb to put two and two together 😂
Life does not always work out like TV shows with a 'happy ending'. A hug and some kind words does not erase decades of family dynamics. I hope the media stays out of their personal dynamics and am proud they are civil to one another.
I suspected it years ago watching PBS. Saw Rick's show and thought his last name is Bayless, and noticed how similar they looked. Only a few years ago did I learn for certain they were in fact brothers.
saw skips podcast this is why so many find uncle's, aunt's, they never knew they had who really knows how many lost close blood relatives we actually have
It's funny to me that while Skip is definitely the more famous of the two Bayless brothers, between his restaurants, cookbooks, speaking appearences, etc, Rick Bayless is worth almost double what Skip is.
Yea they are as different as Night and day. Skip says he loves his brother from a distance which is OK. As long as they both know each other is happy and healthy there's no need to talk everyday.
I watch several cooking videos, but actually only cook things from two chefs. You need interesting recipes and the correct and useful presentation. Rick is one of them.
They are literally the same person just into completely diff things. The drive and the passion for each of their specialties is unmatched. This is actually amazing to see. He was offered to be the White House chef and had to turn it down for Barack Obama, that is insane. It’s sad they don’t have a better relationship but u can tell they have that love and respect for each other no matter what.
I've never heard of Rick Bayless but how could anyone whose seen these two even if in passing on social media how could you not realize these two are related
i had never heardof rick bayless until like 5 minutes ago and the first thing i did was check if they were related lmao "bayless" is such a specific last name
Ok, here is IRONY, they are both apparently are very competitive in their own genres and that should be a very common ground for them to revolve around!
It’s the other way around. I just found out about Rick from a yt comment. I’m in the NY area. Skip def the crazy one. This guy Rick has such a nice and pleasant demeanor.
Ever watch Rick's shows? At least with Rick you can tolerate listening to him for longer than five minutes. Skip's ESPN talk formula is "how much hyperbole can I cram into every ten seconds of speech?" When is Skip not doing schtick?
@@hd-xc2lz it’s called entertainment. The hyperbole, jokes, emotion, knowledge, the spotlight on injustice in sports. Rick sucks I don’t care how many flambés or pork bellies he cook, dude has no flavor…
@@boogie5509 If you're under the false impression that Rick is barely known in the food world, then your opinions of the guy have no weight. You'd be hard-pressed to find a book store in the U.S. without one of his cookbooks on the shelves. By comparison, plenty of sports fans have no clue who Skip is. The guy is a weekday, daytime sports commentator (need to be unemployed or retired to watch), and has the same boring, hot-take, outrage act that is found on The View, and all other women's afternoon talk shows. Most guys I know want to watch games only, skip talking heads at all costs.
they both say they have nothing in common, but food and sports are married to each other in america. tailgating at ball games, sports bars, what's the menu at the super bowl party. nothing in common? both highly successful tv personalities and skip, if you grow a little beard and wear glasses you 2 would look like twins.
I get the feeling that skip was just an asshole growing up which is likely based off of his personality. He has a lot of traits as a narcissist and there's 2 sides to every story he was probably a shitty son who blamed his parents for his problems
Guy thinks only sports can be competitive? Lol cooking at that lvl is one of the most competitive environments imaginable. On par with anything. Period
This explains a lot --- very tough early home /family life..... Rick and Skip are night and day ... Skip comes across as a jerk and Rick seems aloof. it's because of the dysfunction from early on.
I think Skip is a bit of a sociopath. He just talked about the bad blood between them and how he never had much time for his brother. Never got that at all from his brother.
He specifically said they didn't have bad blood. They just never had anything in common and don't have a relationship. He said they're civil with each other, there is just a mutual lack of intere
Skip was the target of his dad rage because he can't cook or isn't talented in it. And was more lenient of Rick because of he has the talent for cooking. My older sister siblings had this kind of growing up minus the abuse. They only able lessen due one is more successful than the other and the other didn't care much about anymore.
Huh? Skip never mentioned any bad blood, he says there was no relationship since the beginning because they had nothing in common, plus the fcked up family situation, the only one he expressed resentment on was his dad
What I gathered from this is Skip had no real talent at sports (averaged 1.4 points per game in HS) so he made a career off of obsessing and bashing over successful athletes in order to fill some sort of void
Why Skip doesn't want anything to do with this guy is beyond me. Its not all about sports. The dude seems funny and cool to be around and hes family. Skip has turned super woke and rather be around race bating stephanie A than his own brother. Another criminal doesn't stop or follow orders and has a gun... Gets shot but hey Shannon, lets talk about how sweet of a man he was and show pictures of his high school days to make him look innocent and dont bring up the ski mask or gun please and then discuss how racist this country is. Wait, that was CNN.
