Meet Sebastian. He is a young boy with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy. His family wants to help me share treatment suggestions to help children like him across the world. My clinic, Child and Family Development, in Charlotte, NC, allowed me to use their facilities and their equipment to showcase Sebastian's skill and charming personality. We review techniques to reduce stiffness, encourage strength and control. I think you'll love spending time with him. Thank you to this family and my clinic for allowing this to happen.
I also have available 3 children's educational books, "A is for Autism," "D is for Down Syndrome," and "C is for Cerebral Palsy" available on Amazon. I have forthcoming "Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises for the Hips". If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com. Please note: I am unable to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated.

Great video and nice job Sebastian! I was wondering what support device he is wearing on his hips/knees and why you chose to have him wear it? It looks like an orthosis of some kind? Thanks so much!

That is a SWASH. It is an earth bike that keeps the legs abducted.

@@pediatricPTexercises why did a quadriplegic CP need to use an orthosis that keeps their leg abducted?? whats the rationale for that?
@pediatricPTexercises
@pediatricPTexercises 2 года назад
For this particular client, this orthosis does a very good job of breaking up his tone and making it easier to work with him.

Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy is one of the causes of cerebral palsy. In this case there’s a lack of oxygen that causes damage to the brain. Cerebral palsy is defined as a condition that results in damage to the parts of the brain that affects movement that occurs before during or slightly after birth. As a physical therapist I don’t treat the exact cause of the cerebral palsy. I treat effects of the damage to the brain. In any case, I hope my videos with Sebastian are helpful to you.

Unfortunately, it is considered unethical for me to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated. I can’t say that it is clinically significant for a child not to be walking by two years of age. I recommend you find a local pediatric physical therapist to help you. My playlist for learning to move from sitting to standing may be of use: ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjM1llP4H__xPvtRv2S2ZvFz

The Most important thing you can do is find a local pediatric physical therapist who can help you. They can customize a program to your child specific needs. I don’t really have a playlist to address your child’s difficulties. I have two playlists that might be helpful for you. ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjMZYC1aYPuXrp-I9VFpNhCu

I am very sorry. However, it is considered unethical for me to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated. I am unsure if my videos with Sebastian can help your daughter. If so, maybe this Playlist can help you. ru-vid.com/group/PLAkJbMrHyKjOdH92UyJNlOHbB_bIvOsnk I highly recommend you find a local pediatric physical therapist who can help you.
