I went up up north to test some of the best gear Sitka has to offer for cold winter. The gear was pretty solid and kept me alive during a brutal cold front while hunting ptarmigan.

I'm about to trade up my old Sitka Kodiak jacket for the aerolite parka.. you're right about the little fleece hand booties/cuffs. Excellent design and those layering systems work!

Man, I really appreciate this content/review. Too many other reviews are so short and basically only say what the manufacturer says.

Thank you, your comment means a lot to me. I only review gear after I used them extensively. The marketing write-up is one thing, the real questions for me is how true that write-up is. Thanks again!

Never underestimate the value of a hoodie on a coat. Priceless. Nice gear man!

Very true! actually, to improve on that Parka, the only thing I would add is a rim of fur on that hoodie.

I discovered Sitka awhile ago, I saved up and bought some, theres not turning back now! The only thing that bums me out is that they do not make pants to fit my inseam. -30 Farenheit temps I stayed warm

Sitka gear is hands down the best stuff out. The price is definitely justified. I have some pieces that are 8 years old that I still use to this day, and they still have years of use left.

They got that gear at the local hunt shop, n I've been looking at it for a few years. I can't quite justify the price to get fitted out, but when I get the lapse of judgement I will. Good stuff. Buddy of mine has the gear for duck hunting here in northern Minnesota.

Hey, Yeah I agree many people hesitate after seeing the price tag, and they should, its a lot of money. But I guess its one of those things that you have to try and experience, to really understand what you have in your hands. Same, my waterfowler friends also swear by Sitka.

I'm not into sponsored videos (probably through jealousy LOL), I don't get the opportunity to buy or use prepper/survivalist gear or tools, living on the road (homeless, through choice). However it was interesting to see what you had and compare things to my gear that i put together with the clothng that I find at the local second hand shop (the only labelled gear I have is a North Face fleece). I live in similar temp and weather to what you experience (at present, -12 celsius, at night -20 or colder). Anyway, thanks for the vid, stay warm!

Lol, yeah I know and I understand, its normal to be wary. But I have a hard editorial line with my content, and the gear I get that I don't like is usually sent back or never mentioned. One can do a lot with wool or synthetic equivalent, once you understand the principle of layering, humidity management and waterproof vs water resistance, you can go ad hock and cherry pick your gear. The convenience of going to a label that focus on outdoor gear is all the thought process is done for you, you get the specific gear for a specific activity. And with some labels you get a seal of quality and warranty.

This one is Open Country Optifade. If I'm not mistaken, made by Gore (Gore-Tex) and licensed to Sitka.

Hey man got a question for you. Can you wear the blizzard parka with only the core layer in like +5 degree Celsius rainning days. I am wondering if i can use the blizzard parka for fall hunts when it rains alot and just wear it with a base layer. Thank you. I haven't purchased the parka yet, hence the question.

Totally, I did that for a while for Waterfowl, but standing still. If you are hiking, you will sweat, get wet then cold. Nothing's more miserable than a cold hunter on top of a mountain.

@@WildBushGrit I bet nothing would be more miserable than a cold wet hunter on a mountain hahaha.

it happened to me two days ago :) on my last day or bear hunting, I was sitting, it started raining, by the time I protected my camera gear, I was completely wet, I put on my raingear too late. When the sun went down, the temp drop to 10-13 degree Celsius. 30 min after sundown, hiking back to the truck was one of the worst time of my life. Uncontrollable shivering, teeth chattering. Lost fine motor skills, unloading the rifle took forever, and driving my shift stick... oh man... lol

@@WildBushGrit damn man that was close. It's always the mid temperatures that get people in to trouble because you don't expect it. I am starting hunting and want to build a clothing system that would serve me well from September to end of November in Alberta Canada, and want it to be Sitka and the clothing would be for mountain. But I am not sure how to go about it. I watched your video about Sitka Clothing but still kind confused about clothing. Like do I need the blizzard set for October and November or can I get by with base layer and two midlayer and then a rain gear ... I don't want to get cold in the mountains hahaha.

Exactly, I never had an issue in Winter, you expect it to be cold and its usually dry, the only humidity is your sweat and its easy to dry, undress 2 minutes and you are done. (providing you are not wearing cotton). I've been wanting to make a video about my entire clothing for hunting, covering all seasons. I'll get on with it, its a good topic. Today I use a mix of Sitka and Kuiu, You need a good windbreaker, waterproof. Also don't buy everything Sitka or Kuiu, your first layers could be anything really, save money, but avoid cotton at ALL COST. Wool is the best fiber for warmth, albeit heavier than synthetic. Camo works best when you mix-match. The secret is in layering, When I go up up north, for Ptarmigan hunt in January, I will wear 3-4 layers of wools, the last layer is usually a wind breaker. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E6_YE4D_VIQ.htmlsi=ahC0nyOZIttjxiDl or this one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e_ESMLyMavc.htmlsi=30J6iFcnsujxlR3s For the bottom, I wear a base layer (Sitka, Smartwool or Kombi) and the pants are wool from Big Bill. The advantage of layering, is now you can customize to any season. :) The most important parts are your base layer for extreme cold, and your outer layer for windbreaking and waterproofness. Hope that helps a bit. Feel free to send any question, I can talk about this all day.
