Remember how great the 2000s were with the coaster wars? That doesn’t happen without competition. I’m afraid the lack of competition will allow for less need to spend and innovate.

I dont think Cedar Fair gain anything from this merge. Six Flags would 100% be the beneficiary

Please do not let this happen. The quality of Cedar Fair parks is so much higher and they utilize their money so much more wisely. I go to Six Flags for coasters only. I go to Cedar Fair parks for a complete amusement park experience.

Forgive me for being more skeptical. I don’t want us to have a Penn Central size bankruptcy and lose Kings Island, Worlds of Fun and even Cedar Point.

This is a beyond horrible idea. Besides, creating a monopoly, competition is a good thing! I do not want to see a six flags Kings Island or a six flags Cedar Point. The Cedar Fair Parks are unique and they have more quality than the six flags parks. They need to stay separate. Period! And I know I'm not the only one thinking this.

I don’t think that this will be a good thing for the industry, I don’t see an upside to merging the two chains. Right now they are competing with each other to constantly improve and i believe that quality will suffer

I can't foresee this merger working out. Six Flags, since emerging from bankruptcy, has taken an extreme approach to cost cutting measures and has been known as the discount brand because of it. Contrast that with Cedar Fair, which has slowly continued building and investing in many of its parks.

I'd rather both refine their niche separately. If this happens, it's because neither wants to get bought by Merlin.

If it happens, I think some of the smaller Six Flags parks will get sold. SeaWorld and Herschend could buy them and build them up for more competition. Otherwise a massive 20 park chain could really steam roll SeaWorld and Herschend. No more Batman rides though 😂

This would be interesting because the 2 Marriot parks would be under the same company again… for now.

This would be a total disaster for everyone except the new corporation. The lack of competition would mean all of the revenue would not go to new investments like coasters and instead the money would go toward stock buybacks and executive compensation.

This summer I decided to go back to Wonderland technically my home park and everything was just phenomenal. I don't ride well with people beside me. I barely had to explain that(almost had to on Backlot stunt but ended up not having to) and the theming for frontier Canada was just gorgeous. I really felt that I was beyond grateful that cedar fair took the paramount/Taft parks instead of Six flags. No please leave them separate

Glad you went back to TPP predictions, It stands out more than “keep ridin coasters” and you’ve built your brand on that.

This makes me very nervous. Both chains tend to neglect lesser parks and without this competition and way more parks to spend on, I see less major rides and far less big additions to smaller parks. I hope I’m wrong though.

I'm glad you mentioned Siebert. The guy is amazing! He went out of his way to give me advice before I was a manager at Cedar Point. He started at King's Island before becoming the Park President at SFFT. The guy deserves to run the show!

I honestly hope this won't happen, but anything is possible in the theme park world! But yeah, I do agree that this will hurt additions.

Brandon, Here's something else regarding the merger that I've been pondering: As I understand, the Board of Directors will be split evenly between Cedar Fair/Six Flags executives. Well we could see competition over working with certain manufacturers. Of course, we're all aware that Cedar Fair dislikes Intamin (not only for TTD issues; but for other projects and apparently Intamin management is difficult to deal with) and RMC (structural issues with Steel Vengeance, not being properly paid etc). Six Flags also didn't work with B&M for a long time (they expensive) nor do they work with Gerstlauer (after the New Texas Giant incident).

I think it will all depend on the level of this merger. For instance both chains still operating independently but offing discounts and tickets to the other chain. so for instance if you buy seasons passes for Six Flags, you might have an option for discount Cedar Fair tickets and vice versa. or you could focus on regions like northeast or southwest and then get discount tickets to other regions. with these options you can still have some level of competition but still helping each other out. then of course there is the One Pass to cover them all.

I feel the multi-park pass will be much more expensive then it is currently with less competition. I bet they go near the SeaWorld Platinum pass price almost immediately.

Please no superhero themed coasters at KI and CP. Too many parks, Whatever company exists should sell off about 1/3 of them.

Hopefully, this new combo will strive to innovate & bring new & exciting coasters & rides to all their parks & keep them clean & safe, with quality food choices at more reasonable prices.

I know Selim has gotten bad rap with his comments but look what he has done, bringing cedar fair style improvements to a lot of parks, now investing in rides. I wanna parks select ”silver” pass. It’s like you can select any six parks. So like I live in Indiana so I could chose Cedar Point, Kings Island, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags St. Louis, Worlds of Fun and Michigan’s Adventure. (Not my actual pick, but just an example)

I’m going to love the Mega Diamond Elite VIP Season pass idea for Six Flags AND Cedar Fair. But not only are they rivals, but they’re counterparts. They are separate for a reason. There’s beauty in both companies separate. I personally don’t think this is going to happen. And to be honest, talking about it like it might happen makes me sick to my stomach. As somebody said on here, “I’d rather see them refine they’re niches” PS, that CedarFlags guy better trademark his name before they get to it!😂😂

(She's 81 and never liked coasters, but she's ridden the more Matterhorn bobsled coaster and also Run Away train at Six Flags Great Adventure in '77. A merger would be terrible. I feel like instead of CF quality going to SF parks, it will be SF park quality going to CF parks. Plus, with way less competition, I don't think it will be as fun to anticipate what new rides parks will get.

I don't see this going through as both boards would want to be in charge. I could see some business between the two companies coming from this however. Like one selling a park to another. Or some assets from CGA being sold to SFDK.

I thought this was a joke but I can see this being bad for management (remember when Six Flags over spent and went bankrupt for to many parks), customers (with passes), and most importantly competition (just look at the industry before RMC came in witb crazy inversions, they would habe happened eventually but would have takeb awhile)

If this were to happen, i think the six flags parks should jus take six flags out of their name rather than cedar fair parks putting six flags in their name. Example: Instead of Six Flags Kings Island, it would just be Kings Island. Instead of Six Flags Magic mountain, it would just be magic mountain.

Since the merger is happening. Maybe this will finally be the time Cedar Fair / Six Flags build and operate a park in Central Florida. They have the means now. Maybe it could be called Cedar Flags... or Six Fairs over Florida. Would be cool

The real question is why? And the answer to that question is the determining factor for whether or not this will be good. It reminds me of in 2009 Chrysler and GM were considering merging because both were collapsing. When mergers like this happen it's usually because both companies are on rocky ground and need to create a more stable base so that they can shed assets without collapsing and that wouldn't be good for us as enthusiasts. The other major reason these kinds of mergers happen is because some giant venture group is combining them because they see some efficiency in operating both companies. But again, those efficiencies usually mean cuts are coming which would be bad for us. I'm not saying this can't be good but I'd say the odds are that it won't be. Unless there is some third party who is coordinating the merger and buying up shares because they've made some big calculation that taking on higher levels of debt will be more stable with the combined companies then I doubt this will go well. But hey, maybe some one has calculated that all of these parks being plused up will somehow increase profit more than if it was done competitively (but I'm skeptical of that.)

If you think that Rollercoasters are going to get better, i have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you! There will be no more Rollercoaster competition. Bet on that. It will be all geared to family size entertainment. Brandon, you need to really do some more thinking. They will not do any huge investments ever again. Only parks that will get better investments will be the ones nearest competitors like Herschend Family, Sea World or Universal. This will be the death of Rollercoaster competition.

How many times we hear about Cedar Fairs buying Six Flags or Flags buying Fairs. I don't seeing anything happening.

This could be a good deal or a very big mistake. It would take a lot of money to bring most Six Flags parks up to industry average. Most are in desperate need of park maintenance, improved landscaping and improved rides & coasters. Cedar Fair should take over and use Fiesta Texas' management team to improve all the SF parks, and even some poorly ran CF parks. Trying to maintain 26 parks would be hard, and I could see some smaller parks being sold. Most Americans have far less disposable income than a few years ago and parks will really have to up their game to get them to spend it there. My CF Platinum Pass expires on Dec 31, I was going to get a Gold Pass All Parks from Cedar Point...should I wait to see if they will include SF parks?

Great video / takes as usual. I just don't see CF willing to work with Intamin again. Maybe overtime they won't have a choice. One thought If T2 works out as planned I could see additional future projects with Zamperla over Intamin (at least over the next 5-10yrs). I just don't think Intamin's have the sustainability that B&M and other coasters have. Looking at Kingda Ka, what is the yearly operating costs? If it's anywhere around what TTD was how long before Cf/SF says nope, and we are looking at a back spike and by by to the rocket? Now I do agree with additional RMC's projects. But my big question is does RMC provide the ROI that CF was hoping to obtain with regards to reducing their high maintenance wooden coasters? Or from a maintenance standpoint did SV simply pick up where MS left off? I recall attending various QA sessions (Coaster Mania) over the years where they had stated that next to TTD MS was 2nd in yearly costs. If RMC's turn into am maintenance nightmare. I can see CF/SF pulling back. Just my understanding / thoughts, I could be way off.

Hey Brandon long time. Hope you're doing well. Well as of this morning we know that this merger is happening. My initial reaction is that this is a pure profitability play. By combining the two each now how have the ability to execute on expanding their parks. I am partly expecting a sizable delay on any type of rebranding at the moment. We may see a new patent holding company created but I'm thinking we will still see the Sox flags and cedar fair branding continue into the foreseeable future. Of course I'm just guessing, but I would not be surprised if on the surface it doesn't look or feel any different than how it is today. What do you think. Merge for the profit. Allowing a stronger competitive stance against Universal and Disney, but keep the branding the same as it today. But we may see a new holding company where the finances are now combined into one total book of business.

With St. Louis as my home park, I'm worried that we end up as an odd one out in this equation. And I'm worried that the good choices for who'd buy us aren't the same companies that WOULD buy us. I'd love for Herschend to come in and buy STL for example, at least in theory. The park still has bones left from the days when the areas were more themed that they could work with. But why would they when that'd be yet another park basically competing against its brethren?

I like the idea of IPs for kids, but not as much for major thrill rides. I love things having their own theme. Also, I hate that Six Flags reuses the same name so often. Also, I 100% agree that Jeff Siebert would be a great pick to oversee the merger.

As realistic as this may sound, I don’t see this merger being a real thing. If it does, then we may see the rise of a monopoly in the amusement industry. Also, I will visit TWO Cedar Fair parks next summer: Kings Island and Worlds of Fun. How would this merger affect those two parks in particular?

I wonder what's gonna happen with darien lake frontier city and other parks that sixflags owns but ops are owned is by hershend and Mexico n Canada but hopefully its good than bad

This really isn’t the same as when Paramount Parks merged with Cedar Fair. Or Premier Parks with Six Flags. The market back then was very different and experimental, which saw a lot of successes and fails. I’d like to think both companies have learned from their mistakes since then. While I would like to see a similar quality for Six Flags to strive towards being like Cedar Fair, I don’t think they need to merge to accomplish that. But going in favor of this, I agree with you on things improving for most of the higher end parks, and there’s still a competitive edge for most of them. The only parks I see not benefiting are SF America, Frontier City, Great Escape, Michigan’s Adventure & (arguably) Dorney Park.

Just my opinion, but if you can take the brand recognition of Six Flags and use CF management, it could be a great merger.

If these two were to merge, here are my conditions. First, no adding Six Flags to the names of any Cedar Fair parks, but they can add "A Six Flags Park" under their names. Second, no removing the Peanuts from the Cedar Fair parks or adding it to any Six Flags parks, and no removing DC or Looney Tunes from Six Flags nor adding either to any Cedar Fair parks. Finally, no rebranding of any Cedar Fair waterparks into Hurricane Harbor nor rebranding of any Hurricane Harbor waterparks into Soak City or anything else.

Seeing the nostalgia for Paramount operated parks, Cedar Fair should pitch themselves to CBS. ABC-Disney, NBC-Universal. SeaWould is betting all-in riding on the coattails of Epic Universe and the international package deals to Florida.

Cedar Fair seems to be initiating this to leverage their (slightly) higher market value. I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to take advantage of Six Flags' weak year and pressure them to sell *Fiesta Texas* - it fits perfectly with their Schlitterbahn purchase. Six Flags would resist, as it's one of their best properties and a useful proving ground for new attractions. So then discussions might move to smaller parks. Discovery Kingdom would be a non-starter as Cedar Fair has never operated animal parks - only petting zoos. Six Flags would jump at the chance to get rid of their America park. But that's unlikely as it's within 2 hours of Kings Dominion, and buying Six Flags St Louis would involve de-branding their Batman and Mr. Freeze clones. Darien Lake would likely be treated as a "Geauga Lake East" - too close to Canada's Wonderland and CP to be worth developing. Buying over Georgia would require gutting investments into Carowinds, which is counterproductive to the Charlotte HQ. New England would be an interesting option, but de-branding all of their DC-themed coasters wouldn't be popular with the GP. So, assuming Six Flags would never put Over Texas, Great America, Magic Mountain, and Great Adventure on the table, that leaves Great Escape, La Ronde, and Frontier City. And honestly, Cedar Fair taking those unbranded mid-bottom-tier parks off Six Flags' hands would not be terrible. They'd be better run, get better food and live entertainment, and receive some decent park improvements and flats every few years. Have to wonder if Six Flags removed Alpine Bobsled and built Bobcat with the intent to sell Great Escape off.

This would be the absolute worst thing that could happen… Cedar Fair doesn’t need to merge with Six Flags, and if they do, expect the quality of many CF parks to decline fast
