awesome video and tips like always... my most common one is the wadnering eyes, lack of consistant eye sight. As a new actor is can be understood and overlooked, but it can also cause you to be "overlooked" for better roles... "he should be fine with this one-liner"... versus "I think he has the ability for this larger role"
Cant find the vid you did about a "walking & talking" on a self tape. I did see the one about side by side positioning. But walking, talking side by side, can you direct me to that video?
It was a short I posted. Audition with a walk n talk? Here’s a solution! It’s how you frame it! #auditions #acting #selftape ru-vid.comVdYlzr11KXg?feature=share
As always, impeccable advice. I’m a newbie and focusing on not sighing and piercing/putting pressure on my mouth. Thankfully my acting teacher is an editor by trade, and she edits all the time - so she catches everything!
It's good to have someone on your team who can help in that way. Just don't let it be all-consuming. You still need to experience freedom in your work. In other words, work on those habits in class, but when it comes to legitimate auditions, try not to focus on it as much. The act of consciously suppressing those behaviors can stunt the freedom you need to have in the performance.
Dude ... what is your mic setup for the "six habits" segment? The audio is perfect! What mic did you use? Boom? Directional? Plugged directly into your phone, or through an interface? I gotta know!!
I've gone through several iterations over the 4 years I've been posting. I think this was my AKG C1000S instrument mic. We've used it forever at our taping studio for the reader mic. I had it plugged into a Zoom recorder and synced up audio afterwards.
all Great stuff! I've learned most of it already.. and still find a few things I have to remind myself of! AAaannd THANKS for the paperclip trick, am trying that next taping!!! :)
AWESOME NOTES TO REMEMBER...They say I'm a professional actor, yet I can remember at least two if these that I've caught myself doing recently. Let's start here: Thank you for reminding me to STOP throwin' in that friggin' filler language 🤔👎🏿😏🤞🏾😉❣❣❣
Hahaha, along the lines of blinking, when I first started acting, it took me moooooooonths...like 6 months+ to get rid of raising my left eyebrow every few seconds XD ... this is some really great stuff in this video!!
YES! The eyebrows! The first time I ever saw myself in a commercial (for a local mortgage company), I was yelling at myself on the screen saying "RELAX YOUR FOREHEAD!" My eyebrows were up the WHOLE TIME. Took awhile to become in control of that...
I've learned more from this video, from your specific perspective, than I have from CDs and talent managers or even other actors' perspectives . This is very specific. Great info!
Love every point! Your context for the seven mistakes is perfect - real-life, relatable examples and zero rambling/“filler.” Thanks for the useful info!
This may not get an answer since this was shot a year ago. My comment is regarding eye contact. I know that I have a wondering eye, and in a recent taping where I was playing a neutral gender role, in a room full of men, and my one reader was a female reading for several men parts, the challenge was giving my reader eye contact when also adjusting my eye contact to each character around the room to give a realness. Should I have abandoned directing my eye contact based on the character talking to me, and stare directly at my reader instead?
Mae, I would say it depends on how evenly spread the dialogue is amongst the other characters, as well as your different POVs to them. For example, if most of the voices only speak once and you feel the same way about them, combine them into one visual on the opposite side of camera from your reader. Then focus on the reader for the character who speaks the most and/or represents the character you have the strongest POV for. Make sense? And even if you have strong POVs for every character, don’t let the technical challenge of multiple eye lines detract from your performance. Simplify.
This was fantastic! You are very funny… I saw myself in a few if these habits! Yikes! Made me laugh even more ! Need to practice keeping the eyes focused ! Thank you for your tips!
@@GetTapedI also think I should probably try eye drops to see if it makes a difference. There could be a "solution" for the extra lights, saline drops 🤪, sorry really wanted to share the pun
My elevated eybe brows still plague me, especially in these videos. For me, though, I have to counteract that my resting face can be very intimidating, or at least off-putting :)
