I would like to also absolutely recommend Freespace 1&2 through the Knossos Modding community. Absolute massive Mod Campaigns that include incredible voice acting, and insane graphic upgrades from the original releases. A new VR compatability mod just hit the community and many campaigns are adding support.
Yesterday i've spent almost half day playing Nuclear Option, the Escalation mission is really fun Also add Falcon BMS to the list! Awesome video as always dude
@@Viper1Zeroi guess it depends on what you would call a full standalone game, but falcon bms definitely has plenty to be considered a full game. even before the f-15 was added, there is just so much you can do with “just” an f-16. although expansion of airframe catalog would be nice just for some variety in player controlled op4.
Haha, pretty sad BMS still has to be relied on for a dynamic flight sim campaign. It's clear DCS was not built with a dynamic campaign in mind given how long it's taking to release it.
You might want to check Gunship IV: Modern Air Combat Flight Simulator, although its being designed for the mobile market which is pretty shit, they have a promising project and a build.
@@Viper1Zeroit’s still only in closed early alpha access. I know a build of it got released for Christmas for the public to play, although I’m not sure how one would access it
@@chaoswolfgaming5591 You have to pay at the products page of the game's website to get future early access updates. You can also preorder aircraft modules for the production release.
Project Wingman gotta be my fav Ace Combat'ish games. :> Using railgun on a big boy flying ship thing while listening to most cheesy dialog know to humanity is the experience I would gladly pay twice for. C: (Just wished game was less orange though. Kinda burned my eyes on first playthrough. xD)
Nuclear Option just went to v0.28, and now has 7 planes and aircraft carriers. The two new planes are an electronic warfare VTOL plane, and the other plane is a F-23 Black Widow style reworked to be a naval carrier plane. Interestingly, the carrier is a Russian/Chinese/Indian style with an angled deck with arrestor wires, but instead of catapults you roll off the end of a ski jump ramp on the bow.
I think Elite Dangerous belongs on this list somewhere, as does star citizen. Yes SC is still in alpha or pre alpha, but if you just want to fly around in space in a "realistic" way, hard to beat SC. The game portion is taking forever to release.
BMS must be mentioned among DCS and MSFS for any milsim fan. Both if he/she missed it and as a thing to watch for in 2024 (BMS 4.38 with new terrain model). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-658ax0y8KHs.html
Man all these look so good. I wish so badly that I had a HOTAS setup. Flying in Arma 3 on M&K is fine but it just doesn't get me as immersed as I wish it would. I feel like a HOTAS is all but required for dedicated flight sim games
Thank you for this video! I would never know about Tiny Combat Area without it! Now do you have any plans to review Air type scenarios from Steam workshop in Arma 3?
I’ve been playing vtol since 2018 and it’s been my primary flight game despite having great sticks for dcs. Might break them out tho for house of the dying sun that looks like a fun space combat game.
B17 Flying Fortress: The Bloody 100th and the Falcon 4.0 remake, both by Microprose, are the two main sims I am waiting for (as dont play study sims), but a couple of very interesting flight combat sims on here that I will look into cheers.
just started. have a pretty good idea of what will be suggested here. very glad i got onto nuclear option. if only Vtol VR wasn't just VR. can't afford one of those. project wingman is next on the buy list, ace combat is where i got started.
I just started too! I'm gonna guess he talks about Tiny Combat Arena, Nuclear Option, House of the Dying Sun, Helicopter Gunship D.E.X, Project Wingman, and VTOl VR. Let's see how I did.
I find its rare or impossible to find Flight Sims devoted to 1 Type of plane.. Like the old days..Microprose F-14 Tomacat, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon 3.0 etc.. These days flight sims are Ace Combat or DCS with lots of planes and not focused on 1 type.. No more F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning.. or F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.. dedicated flight sim..
so i have a question about the nuclear option game, is there a pve only mode? like do i need to play with someone or against someone? Another question, is it flight stick compatible? specifically the Logitech 3d pro?
Didn't even realize there was 6? 😁 Back in the 90's it seemed like that's all that released on PC was sims. What's out there though now is top-notch. DCS needs to get their dynamic campaign out this year though. How could you not mention IL2 Great Battles?! I would not call half of these in this list to be 'sims'. More like 'arcade'. I'd never heard of Helicopter Gunship D.E.X. though. I just bought a Quest 2 to try out VR (was cheap...$195USD new), and yes, VTOL VR is pretty unbelievable, and also very cheap for what you get, especially at 30% off.
DCS is a money making platform on a very old buggy engine with early access modules... TCA is an early access crap. HOTDS is not a sim. More like a space exploration shooter. Gunship DEX is another unfinished early access sim... Project Wingman is not a sim😅 MSFS is an online money making platform BUT... its a professional thing in compare with an old buggy DCS so... lets say I agree on that. Nuclear Option has got a potential but its not even a game. More like a demo of something that - im afraid - will maintain an online arcade sim such as WT... These are very sad times for flight sims...
I'd like to start off with two things: 1. "... very sad times for flight sims..." as opposed to when? Was there ever a better time? Please, really... please tell us all, what we missed and when it passed us by? 2. Are you always such a 'Grumpy ol' bastard', or is it simply because you just can't get it up anymore... ... into the air, ... ... in a Flight Sim, I mean?! Now, the real observations: 1. Why do you have such a massive problem with 'Early Access' games? They're a much better solution, than the, 'Old Ways', when you had to buy the game at full price, and only then find out it was a 'bug-ridden' piece of crap, which would only do about half as much as the devs promised, that is, when it'll actually start. After which the devs stay silent until either they've thousands of angry buyers threatening to lynch 'em or, as is more likely, the Computer & Gaming Media get involved. Even then the devs take weeks to deliver the first patch, and 18mths, if we're lucky, until it'll be finished to the level it should have been at launch! Today's 'Early Access' games are NOT scamming us, because players know what they're getting into, usually, at a reduced price or for free. By doing this the devs, allow players to get involved in the game, by playing it, having fun, with it and all the while helping the devs to improve things to a greater degree and to a higher standard, by having thousands more hours of testing. Gamers can also influence the way the games develop and are made, they also add new ideas, which is a fantastic feeling if one of your ideas make the final game. 2. It's obvious that you have no idea what you're talking about, and that you don't actually play any of the games you so easily dismiss. Of course DCS and MSFS are both guilty of being a, "... money making platform... ", that's the whole point of any game, computer utility, business, multi-corporation or corner shop. How can you be so blind & stupid not to get that? That's because, DCS World is actually NOT, "... a very old buggy engine...", and hasn't been for quite a long time. The users mostly used the Beta version, which may occasionally have 'thrown a wobbly', but there was always a stable version, if you wanted it. Furthermore, as of Oct '23 Eagle Dynamics removed the Beta Test version altogether! Oh, and BTW, ... ... DCS World is actually, totally and completely ... ... FREE! Yes, it is! It comes with two fully working Aircraft Modules, one's a piston-powered fighter-trainer, the TF-51D Mustang, whilst the other is a weapons-functional ground-attack jet, the Su-25T Frogfoot, in addition, DCS currently includes two free maps to use them on: 1. The Caucasus Region and Black Sea Map that encompasses much of Georgia and a bit of Russia. 2. The Marianas Archipelago Map which is 2,000 km south of Japan and includes Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan, and a score of lesser islands. Add onto that at least 4 extremely high quality, yet FREE 'community-made' aircraft & an in-house, in-development WWII era version of the Marianas Map, to be added later for... ... FREE! So tell us again, exactly how Eagle Dynamics' DCS World is... just a "Money-Making Platform"? It ONLY becomes that, if YOU want it to, by buying only the add-on modules that you want. I can't comment on, 'HOTDS' or 'Nuclear Option', as I've never used either of them. But then, do you even have the right to pass comment on things you've only read or dreamt about? I mean, why... WHY would you ever even try them? Because, just based on your vague, hateful descriptions plus your utter loathing and contempt for such 'ffiscally-bleeding' titles and those horrible 'Early Access' games, I know you wouldn't contemplate using, or even trying, them. 🤪😲🫢 _😂🤣
Hey! nice username, I'm a Tiny combat arena modder and would like for you to try them out! Currently the TCA modding community is still progressing and I know that you are in the modding server lol.
I am surprised about the severe lack of decent WWII flight sims. Like there isnt any modern games outside of say Combat Flight Sim 2 from 2000 that has decent WWII Pacific War missions. Like Battle of Coral Sea, Midway, Guadalcanal campaign, Philippine sea, Leyte Gulf, Saipan, Guam, Iwo Jima, Okinawa etc.
That's True, Man. Remember All The Great Ones From The Late '90's? I Still Play MCFS2 From Time To Time. Have You Played The CODWAW Level Where You're On A PBY?
VTOL VR is great, I swear I'm addicted to livery making, cause I've made a grand total of like 21 liveries for the Mischief since it launched, and even released my own template for it. Feels good seeing others using it or parts of it, and the odd time someone in a public lobby is using one of my liveries. Saw someone using my cursed USCG livery and it put a grin on my face. Great video as always Viper
@@Viper1Zero Nah I think the Mobius one was made by Chasaroonie, but I've done all four Cipher variants from ACZ, Garuda, Warwolf, Reaper (plus a generic UNF skin), Trigger, Kingdom of Erusea, Estovakia, the Federation, K-9, CIF, Monarch but Jolly Rogers-like, US Coast Guard, US Air Force, the P-51 Crazy Horse livery, and a livery for the VTOL VR part of an Arma unit I sometimes participate in known as ACES
@@homelessmotherofnine9577 nuclear option is not even playable, the game just crashed when about to take off, the aircraft is barely controllable. The whole game is full of bugs. Only DCS is proper but it seriously doesn't come with tutorial that teaches you how to operate the aircraft, some merely some don't at all giving much frustration especially when RU-vid tutorials and manual guide incomplete or left out some parts.
Falcon BMS is an good alternative for DCS World with minus than 30gb and many variations of f16, if you dont like the graphics of it now you will like in the next update with the graphic engine change
great video, I wasn't aware of Nuclear Option's super cool looking damage models! One thing I have gotta point out, is that VTOL VR is all made by a single developer, Baha. They also made the BDArmory weapons mod for Kerbal Space Program, which considering the amount of hours I poured into that mod is super cool to me.
DCS is an amazing sim, but not a great game yet, if that makes sense. UNtil they release a top notch campaign, either dynamic or scripted, it't great as a study sim, but as a game, it's lacking.
While I sort of agree, I still think, it's a great game. That's because there are some great campaigns and missions, both pay/freeware and there's always the option to make your own. Also, if it's good enough, you could make money on it, or at least add to the community.
@@Viper1Zero I can’t imagine why. It seems ridiculous. 🙄 I mean graphics are as important to a game as special effects are to movies. Good effects won’t save a bad film. But there’s a point where you’d just lost the audience if a movie today tried to use effects from decades ago. It’s just sorta horrible and distracting. Especially selling it for more than about $5 as a smart phone game. This on a PC?! It’s like a joke. VR games have sorta the same problem but at least you’re in VR. But they look like games from 20 years ago. The only worthwhile games on that list IMO are DCS and MSFS 👍 both for the fidelity and graphics.
@@jarentz Except it’s not a joke because there is a massive audience for retro aesthetic type games. Guys like me who grew up with games looking way worse than this can enjoy new mechanics and gameplay but in a way that hits that nostalgia. It’s clearly not for you, and no one’s putting a gun to your head to buy it. Being mad a thing exists that other people enjoy is about as “old man yells at cloud” as you can get. MSFS and DCS are both super high fidelity, yes. Games I also love, but you can love games that aren’t the highest max graphics game as well. Judging by how hundreds of thousands of people continue to buy retro games I’d say they’re going nowhere.
@@Viper1Zero whatever, I just don’t see the appeal myself. I agree with you on the point of having TrackIR support in these games being a must-have. At least it has that.
@@jarentz And I’m not saying you SHOULD see the appeal lol. It’s clearly not your thing and that’s ok. Yes, TrackIR is god tier and I’m not playing a flight game that doesn’t support it. Ha.
