Wooooo, So cool to be able to answer these questions. It was the last day of the con, and the total hours I had slept at this point in the past 5 days had hit about 16. YA BOY was tired. Surprised I was able to get some words out that sort of made sense. Big love to all the peoples watching!

Watching this makes me appreciate how much I DON'T know. Friends see my work and say its really good, and in my head I'm crying because if I knew half of what these people do, my friends would probably cringe at my current work.

Thanks for the vid - so interesting to hear the pro's talk about their craft. Loved the 2017 vid as well - at the time I thought my cheap synthetic brushes were holding me back, so it was quite eye-opening for me to hear some pros think sable brushes are not that important. A suggestion: I like to listen to these kinds of vids while riding the bike, or doing some chores around the house, so it would be nice if the questions were read out loud. Anyone else consuming these vids audio-only, or am I the only one? Again, thanks for the vid, loved it and hope to see more pro painter insights in the future!

Thanks for this vid Uncle. I often don't get to watch videos longer than 25-30 min because of constraints etc but I was so glad to watch this one. Good questions and nice blend of painters, known and unknown to me, with varying styles and opinions helps to break the tunnel vision and fear of failure that a lot of us find ourselves engulfed by. The comment by James Wappel about how the hobby should be a release from the daily grind not just mimicking it in a different form, really hit home for me; I wish I had the time to watch his livestreams he really is so talented. I really appreciate your efforts Uncle to expand and further the hobby. Cheers.

Everyday inspiration; I have a row of pressed metal tea caddies on my kitchen window sill, they're old, a little beat up, scratched and faded by sunlight, and every time I wash up I look at them and think that ivory and sea green combination would make a killer scheme for a Mentors space marine. Informative, inspirational, thankyou!

Thanks, I really enjoyed this. Can't say I know all of the terms they used though. I'm just a wargamer painting for the table top, but one thing I've found that has made me a better painter is to go back and check each model and fix any mistakes. I'm glad to see this happens to the best painters as well.

This was great thanks for doing this video. As a fairly new painter but have done some good work. I think some good tips are: spray primer, dry brushing with different sized brushes, glazing for bright colour effects and different varnish produce some great results. Only so far a base coat and some wash will get you.

I'm a TV journalist and I must say, this little format you came up with is just outstanding. Really profund questions, and the fact that they all have variety in their answers gives me as a viewer so much value! I love it, and I learned so much so far! One critical word, though: You might consider getting a directional microphone for this type of shoot. Maybe just borrow one for the day, I don't think they are that expensive rentals in the U.S., I don't know. I'm only writing this because I would really love to see much more videos like this in the future, and that kind of mic would improve the sound a lot. Anyway, thanks for this!
@tabletopminions
@tabletopminions 2 года назад
Actually, it IS a directional microphone (a Rode NTG4+) I was just filming in a pretty loud place that had great light and was easy for painters to find me. I understand the audio wasn’t optimal. In the future, I could bring good lights and C-stands and set up somewhere quieter - but if the views on this video are an indicator, I probably shouldn’t bother. Thanks for watching!

I recently got my first cheapo depot airbrush and after only a few weeks Ive realized that I was so mistaken about how I thought it was going to be; I figured I was just getting a miniature rattlecan basically and had no idea until I started experimenting just how versatile and widely useful an airbrush can be beyond just getting models primed and basecoats laid down.

Honestly my biggest worry: That in this years Golden Demon almost ALL trophies went to professional painter. Painters that do it for a living, live off of Patreon, YT, their fan base. And thats awesome and all, but as a normal hobbiest, there is no point in competing anymore. You simply dont stand a chance.
@JerrodHansen
@JerrodHansen 2 года назад
I’m a very low level painter who is just beginning to produce work that I’m proud of. I know I’ve still got a lot to learn but I would totally be down for submitting to a “first time competing” competition or other entry-level competitions. I don’t think I’d win, but it would be fun to share my efforts and see others and maybe even inspire someone who sees my stuff and thinks “I can do that or I’m at least as good as that guy”. The top artists are amazing, but it’s out of reach for me. I like to see stuff that I feel I could aspire to or emulate, I learn more from the mid-range people. We all need to see that there are painters like us out there, it isn’t just the Golden Demon winners.
@Amboss_d_Triumphator

@@JerrodHansen oh hell yeah totally. To be clear i Meant competing at these events. Locally or Special beginner Events still are great fun and a challange. But these high end events have really become professionel Events

Great to watch this. So insightful. Often wonder though, these competitions like golden demon focus on the painters. I know there's plenty of customisation going on but where do the original sculptors get their praise because they are often great works of art in themselves, even without the paint
@MarkWidner
@MarkWidner 2 года назад
I would like to see a 'Speed Demon' contest where painters get the same model with no preview and paint it in 2, 4 or 8 hours. Then judged based on the outcome and then the models auctioned off for charity. The paints would be supplied to make sure the playing field is the same across artists. This type of competition could have an amateur and pro division and takes place at Adepticon. Folks could stroll by and watch the progress. Just a thought from a first attendee.
