In depth strategy on learning how to skate a rail safely has possible. I review each key step in the bs boardside with complete detail with safety in mind.
“So if youre using a flat bar or a round flat bar...” Im using the base of a street sign propped up on two six by sixes that i pull out and put on the road. I live in the middle of nowhere and the asphalt is rough as balls
haha ha same man my local skatepark is terrible and the grind rails and stairs are about 1, 1/2 feet high and i cant grind something that high so i litterately found some random pole tied it to 2 rocks and grind it
I find it funny people think this is easier on a ledge. When there are so many other things that come into play, on a ledge. Like wheels sticking to the top and pitching your ass off. It is scarier on a rail but so much easier.
this video did me wonders when I learned how to boardslide. only took me a couple hour sessions! plus your kickflip explanation has made my kickflips 1000000% better. thankyou Professor Corrigan :)
I only do flat rails because I'm old and arthritic. Lol. Plus I'm only 2 years back into skating. Don't always get to skate as much as I want to. I appreciate all of your videos and insight. Mad respect for you
One big tip is lean a little too forward the first time and each try it. Afterwords lean a little more back until you get used to sliding on a board slides
Dan, you deserve more clicks and subs. You have kind of an abrasive personality at first, but after a few videos, I could see you're a really cool guy with strong friendships.
DAN, U SO ARTICULATE. That's why i'm subbed. Gonna go give this one a shot. edit: NVM, only have ollies at 40% success rate going up curbs right now. Time to work more on that and then come back to this. THANKS FOR THE KNOWLEDGE, DUDE
this was the best tutorial I’ve watched by far. I had attempted boardslides a few times to no avail but I watched this video and then went to go skate and I was able to actually land my first one and get it fairly consistent (I only kissed the rail but it’s more progress than I’ve made before). I’m going to attempt to get more centered and getting longer slides but this video helped a LOT
Just got back into skating after years, would love one of these on lipslides especially! Very good tutorial for beginners or for just a quick refresher. Well done man.
dude thank you for real i always had it in my mind that I had to slide at least a foot for a board slide or get on in the middle but your tutorial helped me remember i only have to tap it in the beginning
Hey Dan, I am 44 and skating for a year now. The whole time I wanted to learn how to skate a rail but I didn't know were to start and was really scared. You took that fear away with this vid! Can't wait for my ankle to heal and start skating rails :D Btw. Love you insta clips with music!
I love the way u teach on dales channel so whatever trci kyou will teach it can be very basic or more advanced will be insightful to me esp taling about how to get out in certain situations, learning steps etc
This is like my 7th time watching this video its so good and always gets me back on track. I can front board but sometimes i lose it. I feel i dont really know how to sit on rhe rail comfortably & hold the front board. I should’ve probably learned backside first like everybody else but im weird for some reason idk.
I did notice this is a 'all of nothing' trick for me. Mostly because as a beginner with a slight fear it's kind of hard to commit to ending up fully balanced above the board. But to me the easiest way to board slide is when fully balanced over the board (kind of makes sense I guess). This is kind of why I do think flatbars are the way to go when first learning. For me it doesn't work landing at a slight angle (or rather, it can make it more difficult really). Maybe even do a caveman boardslide with the board already on the flatbar to get a feel for how it can slide too. I've noticed that took away a lot of the fear for me. In reality, boardslides are not a difficult trick, once you find a speed you're comfortable with and are able to ollie fairly controlled into them.
My tip. If you’re totally new to board sliding, don’t start with a rail. Start with a modest ledge or low kerb - and start with just kissing the end as Dan showed. Using a ledge or kerb avoids getting tangled and caught up in the rail. It has the added benefit in the case of a kerb, of providing a wider surface to slide on which reduces the amount of ‘balancing’ required. Once you’re confident on those obstacles it’s easy to take it to a rail.
Get really comfy with Ollies and fs180s will make this much easier. I landed one in like 20 minutes without even falling once. Just gotta get over that mental barrier. I hope everyone learning this trick gets it, it's so fun to do!
You have impeccable timing Dan, I was thinking of learning BS Boardslides on a rail yesterday and planned to search for videos. Guess what I find in my sub box haha. Stay safe!
Love the tutorials. Can you please do some more advanced tricks. Maybe switch Front bigspin or fakie biger spin I find it hard to progress cause no one does tutorials for harder tricks
I can’t believe you didn’t suggest that these kids learn slappy back boards first. That’s how I learned to sit on a board slide, and it taught me to bring them to regular without just going off the end of the rail.
Yeah for beginners like your self I would suggest getting comfortable riding a board , especially with some speed. Able to do pivots, kickturns and reverts reasonably well. Frontside 180 and Backside 180. Some people choose a preference of the two tricks but both are necessary. For example Im a backside guy. Kickflip and or Heelflip. Pop shuvits, shuvits. Varial kick flip. Ollying up a curb and down a curb. Technically imo ollying up and down curbs with ease will give you board slide ability. Rails will always appear more daunting than curbs but they offer less friction. So it ultimately becomes a smooth cakewalk when you know you can get on and off.
i think that to learn bs boardslides its better to learn on ledges where you can slide using your front wheels, that feeling is the same you can feel when you do a boardslide on rail, cause the angle and balance its practically the same. so when you get a long and stable slide on ledges you autmatically can do the same on rails. its a fact that you must use more wax on ledge at the wheels contact zone, cause its tends to stuck with ease, and for me something I learned is to slightly lean foward before make ollie into boardslide, cause that prevent to lean backwards when you get over the rail
I learned board slides on a maddgear round skinny rail on the first day, i have 3 days straight trying to board slides a square rail, i hate square rail too 😂
Im thinking a doublesided curb would be useble. Im 48y old and like over 225lbs and 6.5f tall so slams are like often dayenfing. I feel a curb is less angular and a little wider and impactspreading.
I tried a boardslide on a ledge earlier today, i tried to get on a part of the ledge where I still had about 4ft of ledge to slide Ended up slipping out backwards but falling beside the ledge, could've been way worse
That's exactly what it is, a flatbar. If it wasn't flat it would be a downrail or uprail. You're probably thinking about square rails, which are box-like as opposed to round rails.
I have this issue where when I get into it properly, and have to bail forward, I automatically try to lift up one foot instead of jumping of with both feet. So I end up duckwalking, not getting my feet of the board, and have slammed like a bastard a couple of times. Anyone have tips for getting proper bailing into my muscle memory? I've considered jumping up and "stalling" on the end of the rail, then jumping of, but I donno...
idk why but i can picture that slam perfectly in my mind and it makes me laugh so hard. i dont know if you're still having this issue but i guess just try to remember to either jump off with both feet, or just dont jump off at all
my problem with this is coming out, No matter how many times I tell myself to swing my shoulders back to parallel I just cant do it and the board lands primo
