Just to let ya know I watched this video, went to the park and learned 50-50s on the round bar today. Did exactly what you did and it was great, very great tips.
Rails are straight confidence. Best life lesson I learned from skateboarding. If you just go for it, you'll usually make it out just fine or land the trick. Really rare to eat crap. Same applies for life goals. Just gotta commit!! 🤟
I was skating for about 16 years until my knee said no...since then I still watch a lot of skating on youtube...your tutorials are really good ! Btw, I enjoy your skating very much...allways something never seen comming out of your sleeve.
i think its about being mindful of how you push yourself same concept as start at a curb -> 2 stair -> 3 stair so on. Don't skate a waist high hand rail before you skate a small hand rail. The worst injuries happen when people try something big before practicing on smaller stuff first
@@oneofthelast2323 pushing yourself a little bit at a time is a good thing. My issue with the whole "skate within your means" thing is that it's the skateboarding version of helicopter mothering. My approach is more along the lines of "try not to die, but if you're going to, go out in a way that people will be talking about for decades to come"
Today was the first day after weeks of round rail practice I consistently had correct placement of my board. You are my favorite RU-vidr and you are one of the best teachers I’ve seen on RU-vid for skateboarding. I’m a commercial banker, 36, and this is my first year skating and I’m loving it, thanks to you!
duuuuuude thank you so much!! i'm a super lightfooted skater and i never understood why my round rail tricks flop around everywhere. but its the weight!!! thank you im going to land a bunch of em tomorrow
was trying front 50's earlier, just tapping the end of the rail and wondering why my board would flip out from underneath me. didn't even think of body weight, but after u mentioned it the trick makes sense. definitely landing these tomorrow, thanks Dan!
These trick tips are very helpful I mean I've always been scared trying the 5050 on a round rail but it feels more safer to learn ...thanks bro I'm about to learn the 5050🔥🔥💪
I've been struggling with 50 50s on rails for 2 years. I landed many but they were always sketchy. Today I finally said fuck it, I need to learn this trick. I made any effort to cross lock, I would land on it just like it was a ledge and IMMEDIATELY pull backward with my back foot and forward with my front foot to cross pinch and I instantly started grinding further and was balancing better. I used to try to lock in the heel way and I just never felt very good about it, never came out of it landing very solid. It's actually very very easy to just shimmy into that cross lock as long as you do it immediately upon landing, you sort of shift it there as your weight is coming down, like your trucks have hit the rail but your body weight hasn't fully come down yet. I am still not super confident with this trick yet like I know I am with, say, board slides on rails or axle stalls and things like that, but instantly just by going a little faster, trying harder, and utilizing this cross pinch method, I was instantly doing MUCH better and managed to land about 10 really good 50 50s on a round bar in about an hour. It's easy to see for me how in a few months I'll be grinding much further, at faster speeds. I started skating at age 23, so I got a very late start. I'm 26 now. Never thought I would learn front 50 50s on rails, as I know many very good skaters who don't even like doing them even though they are far better than me. I just personally have always thought 50 50s on rails looked so fucking cool and I was so excited that I finally learned this today, or I should say truly learned it, actually understand the trick now in all its parts and now just need to build some consistency with it. So stoked guys
i can finally do it, and its actually not that hard once you get over the fear. i always land in a weird reverse opposite crosslock though, im gonna work on that
Same bro I’ve been struggling trying to fix my cross lock for a month now with no luck. The 5050s are good enough I guess but the proper cross lock looks a lot cooler in my opinion.
Thanks for this video. I'm digging out my old flat bar rail. It might even be the same rail you have. I never put enough time in the front 50/50. I just board slided the rail some years back. But when I worked on the 50/50 I did the exact same steps for getting there like you did in the video. I quickly decided to do it "cross trucks" but didn't have a name for it in German. I'll get started soon. I think I'll get this 8)
Heel side feels more natural for me on frontside 5050s but crosslock feels more natural on backside, I think. I usually end up in crosslock either way so it doesn't matter what I try to do
I've 50-50ed round rails for years and never thought about where/how I lock in. I just keep speed generous, try to jump basically dead center over the rail, land on that shit and just sliiiiiide. Never thought about how I lock in once in my life, and it seems to basically go fine every time.
I learnt 50/50s on round rails before ledges and square rails, it made it so much easier to learn on ledges. The fear factor was gone after learning on a round rail
Hey Dan, I'm one of those stopped skating at 18, started again at 36, stories. Love your channel and intentionally first search 'dan corrigan [trick]' when looking for tutorials. I'd never 5050'd a round flat bar before and dreamt of doing one. This video got me there. Thanks!
U have to do more trick tip videos my dude so informative and u really take ur time explaining tricks I fucking love this can't wait to hit the park friday!!!
Dear Dan, I learned 5050 on rail because of the video. But, you forgot to teach how getting out of 5050 on rail. What if I can not 5050 all the way to the end of the rail, how do I properly get off the rail? Could you teach me the easiest way to get off the rail?
I landed it 4 times today. Took a few minor/scary bails. I knew I had to get super good at ledge 50s and square rail 50s, so I did that for 4 months then today I finally took it to the round bar and did it. Felt pretty good!
My guy this is amazing have 50-50s every try on a ledge and getting 5-0s and over variations 180s in and out down but had such a mental block when wanting to learn to 50 50 on a round rail
@@MarcelMmc have been off the board recovering it’s not easy being 30 and learning but I’ve found it’s easier to grind thicker circle rails I stay away from thin ones the pinch to fear factor is too hard
I learned to front board & cross lock on a keen ramps flatbar Way better than the rail I had the guy on OfferUp make me lol Just barely lower than the bar at most parks I’ve been to, so I’d say perfect o practice on.
So you're saying I don't have to be Jamie Foy (Front Crookin' the shit out of stuff) to experience "das pinch?!" Anyway, looks like I got a bigger list of goals for "what to do once i can ollie successfully onto something 10 out of 10 times?" I am not ready for this trick. My homie is a welder.... i might ask him to make me like a 3" high rail.... might be able to slappy into it? I might have to check out Homage because I'm in NYC.
I’m regular but I cross lock as if I was goofy, so my back foot would be toe side and front foot would be heel side. Does anyone else have this problem ?
How is it a problem? Do you land them? Then just stick with it. Imo it looks sleezier like how you're doing them. If you can't get them locked like that or for some reason you'd wanna change it, do a little scizor motion with your legs once your trucks make contact with the rail.
I know its a late reply, but i was wondering if anyone could tell me whether tight trucks or loose are better (or does it even matter?) for round rails. I've just started landing some 5050s on ledges frontside and like riding tighter trucks generally.
dont think it matters in reality but I ride loose. I feel in my personal opinion that loose is easier bc u can get a better pinch. If you use your body weight like he says it shouldt really make a difference
No Georgia parks have flat bars, I've been skating a little over a year now and I still haven't found a park with a flat bar, and every almost handrail is square
Hey Dan I have a quick question. I'm goofy footed, but cross lock like I'm regular footed (back foot toe locked and front foot heel locked). How do I fix this? Does it really matter? Thanks.
yo i used to do the same thing, still do it on accident sometimes. i’d say just keep doing them until you get comfortable aiming and locking in heelside on your back truck. i’ve heard dan call them ohio locked 5050’s. it doesn’t really matter aside from the fact that it looks a little ugly, but hey you’re 50’ing round bars!
@@martyr88 Awesome man thanks alot. I did as much research as I could to see if there were any threads on the internet about, but could find anything. I'm gonna try to do heelside only lock ins and see if that helps me.
Any tips on how to fix this?? Ive been doing them for about a week now and landed maybe 15-20. But all of them were crosslocked the wrong way so I come off the rail terribly
@@oreopringles7341 to start to make it easier loosen your trucks to make it easier to lock in and when you lock in you have to automatically push your back heel so you dont lock into the cringe pinch cross lock so heel side or cross lock finally just start by holding onto something and ollieing into the rail then when you get used to that start ollieng into the rail without holding onto anything this is just to get u used to pinching in and then you are set
When I was a kid I hit my head on concrete from this, I wish I had consulted this video prior to then. I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off.
Im so disappointed my kind arent mentioned.. Toe side feels more comfortable for me so this video is incomplete there's gender neutral bathrooms now but no acknowledging toe side grinders in skate tutorials smh have we really progressed as a society?
